Houston Rockets Sign Marcus Camby to One-Year Deal

Marcus Camby, who was said to be deciding between the Rockets and the Bulls, has made a decision—the same one Dwight Howard made (albeit with a little less fanfare). According to Yahoo!, the veteran big man will sign with the Houston Rockets: “Rockets will sign free agent center Marcus Camby today, an NBA source told Y! Sports. Camby’s deal with the Rockets is a one-year minimum contract.”

played great last time he was there. bye bye asik?

  • Max

I was thinking Asik would get traded but I don’t know, hard to thrust in Camby to hold up for a whole season.

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah that was my thought also, i mean asik trade speculations have been going on ever since the howard rumors started, but trusting camby to be your back up for an entire season at this point in his career seems shaky.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Camby is a good running mate in practices, but I don’t think he makes Asik tradeable.

Camby is dying to play for a championship caliber team. If he gets major minutes in the playoffs then he had better perform or he’ll get cooked by fans/media. Sometimes you have to watch what you wish for.

well asik is already tradable due to howard being there, camby doesn’t replace asik, but he could work as some sort of security

hope rockets fans are happy to watch campy sit on the bench all season, or maybe he’ll actually play consecutive games this year which is something he couldnt seem to handle on the knicks last season

  • i_ball

I know I underestimate experience but some teams/gms give it too much value. I don’t think this is a solid pick up for anything more than training…

Is there some kind of record for guys returning to teams they’ve already played for at one point in your career? Knicks again, Raptors again (briefly), now Rockets again.

Theo Ratliff might be a contender, but I dunno for sure.

  • LLC#12

    Or maybe Anthony Johnson

yeah because if houston comes up short in the playoffs the media will blame camby instead howard

  • shockexchange

In SE’s opinion, the media is guaranteed to blame Howard if the Rockets come up short, not because it’s true, but because mentioning Rent-A-Center’s name delivers website hits. That said, SE sees two scenarios for Camby – (i) He plays the role of Juwan Howard or Eddy Curry and sits back and simply says he was on a team that won a chip, or (ii) he plays meaningful minutes during the playoffs and gets roasted – assuming he doesn’t get injured first.

    this guy is still playing?

  • RKJ92

I doubt he will even get any minutes behind Howard, and Asik this feels like a courtesy signing to me.. unless he somehow is moved to play pf which I also severely doubt..

  • BugEyes

He will be the juwan Howard of the rockets. hype theses cats up when they are slacking. his game 6 speech woke the heat up

He’s on that “dikembe mutumbo farewell tour”…!! Nice backup for dwight.

Avery johnson played for the spurs intermittently for what seemed like 6 different seasons!?!?! …….. 3 to be exact….?

  • dyop

I tried adding camby to my 2k13 association rockets team, can’t. he retired.

  • Feez_22

Camby is going to once again regret not signing with the heat imo.

Can he still play? He barely played for the Knicks.

  • RV6

Camby lives in Houston. He’s not sweatin’ the Heat because he really wants to play at home more than anything. He knows he signed on as a mentor more than anything else.
