Kings Trading Tyreke Evans to Pelicans in Three-Team Deal

After balking at the New Orleans Pelicans‘ four-year, $44 million offer for restricted free agent Tyreke Evans, the Sacramento Kings have decided to trade the 2009-’10 NBA Rookie of the Year. The Portland Trail Blazers will help facilitate the deal (which can’t be made official until July 10.) ‘Reke and his teammates tweeted their goodbyes. Per Yahoo! Sports: “As part of a sign-and-trade arrangement, Evans will come to the Pelicans on a four-year, $44 million contract. New Orleans will send guard Greivis Vasquez to the Kings and center Robin Lopez to the Trail Blazers, sources said. Portland will send the draft rights to center Jeff Withey to the Pelicans and a future second-round pick to Sacramento. The trade came after free-agent point guard Jose Calderon rejected a contract offer from the Kings, league sources said. The Kings had hoped to sign Calderon and trade Vasquez to another team.”

Pelicans look like a nice squad but I hope Tyreke can improve his shot.

Way too much money for Evans… His stats have dropped every year in the league, good move by Sacramento to not match that contract.

New 2k team, but where does this leave Austin Rivers? Backup point guard since Jrue is there. I’m assuming Tyreke will play the SF position.

As a King’s fan, Tyreke has been improving steadily over the last two years. His stats have fallen in some categories but risen in others (FG%). What a non Kings fan would see is a drop in PPG but he has been used less as a result of Cousins and Thornton.

Kings fans are sad by this because he looks to be making great strides as an all around player.

So although the price may be a little steep, his best days are still ahead of him.

    Please treat him well. :-)

But last season was his most efficient season since he’s been in the league.

I really like that NO got withey, he and Davis could become a deadly shot blockning combo for years to come

I’m sold. I think we see NOLA as an 8th seed next year. Gotta trade Gordan for a SF tho. He can’t stay healthy, not worth it.

Is David Kahn working for SACTO now? They’re acquiring more point guards. :) KAHHHNN!!!

tyreke is overrated.hes a good player and improving just a liltle yearly.
im glad hes out of sacramento.goodluck to him hope he improves in NO..

  • spit hot fiyah

for danny granger makes sense. and they might be better than an 8th seed if things fall in place

  • lightsoutskyhighbasketball

    that trade does make sense

  • SirGrey

Keeping Calderon and trading Vasquez would have been idiotic.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

That would make the Pacers better too. Start Gordon at the 2 instead of Stephenson… wow.

  • spit hot fiyah

haven’t looked at the numbers though. that is 3 years of max contract they would be taking in gordon i believe. they have to be ready to give george the in two years if his development continues.

  • Junkie

I don’t know if you can really call him overrated if no one thinks he’s that great in the first place.

  • Nathan Shane Long

Tyreke Evans the worst shooter in the league all he did in Sacramento was be a ballhog and run Kevin Martin out of town lost his spot and position to the last pick in the draft Isaiah Thomas has not improved his game since his rookie year in 2009 when he stole ROY from Brandon Jennings and now his bust ass gets 44 million from New Orleans that unreal

  • Armando

Trade Anderson for Asik and Gordon for Granger = pretty good starting 5. Maybe keep one maintain some kind of bench?
