Los Angeles Lakers to Reportedly Waive Metta World Peace

According to the OC Register, the Los Angeles Lakers will part ways with forward Metta World Peace, by amnestying him between July 10-16. Kobe Bryant tweeted that he wishes that wasn’t the case: “Sweet a guy as he is, @MettaWorldPeace will be waived via amnesty by Lakers to save about $30 million, barring some late change … Lakers will sign (a small forward) for minimum salary or move Kobe to SF. [...] ‘No game 7 win without Metta! This is a tough day for laker nation … Personally I’d keep Metta and make a run with the unit we have and just add a few pieces #keepthepeace #lakersstilldeciding.’”

Once the best player on the planet, MWP now being amnestied. This has gotten the Shock Exchange’s dander up.

This is a shame, I wonder who will pick him up? He can absolutely still contribute on a contender, not as a starter though. How many SF’s are available for the minimum that are an upgrade over Artest? Kaman, Gasol, Artest, Bryant and Nash looked good enough for as high as the 5th seed in my opinion. Also, how on earth did Metta ever average over 20 a game…

I would very much enjoy seeing Meta World Peace joining forces with Howard and Harden in the “little town” of Houston, Texas!

Man, that’s just sad / business. I wonder who do the Lakers think they will land instead of MWP, I mean I get they need the roster spot, but who can they get who’s that better than Ron Ron? Ish ain’t right.

There was a stretch last season where MWP was killing it. Triples galore.

the mad villain! i only have one question: who is mr. fantastik

  • spit hot fiyah

it’s not about needing a roster spot or someone who is better than him. it’s about saving a gang of money that they would have to pay because they are over the tax line

Dude is a much better scorer than implied. When he was with the Kings/Rockets he was a focal point of their offense.

Yeah, but it just seems like his offensive skills have diminished so much, namely his ball handling and shooting. Maybe it appears that way cause of his reduced role in the offense, but he just doesn’t look like an elite scorer anymore. I hope he gets picked up by a contender anyway, they aren’t contenders, but the Knicks could maybe use someone of his defensive prowess.

I think to some degree dis athleticism has diminished. Couple that with rarely being involved in the offense at times and you get the illusion that he can’t average close to 20ppg. I’m sad to see him go but I agree he would do wonders for a contender. I’m sure a lot of teams will be expressing interest in him.

What’s the benefit of amnestying MWP? honestly I don’t see it.

  • LLC#12

Yeah his athleticism has diminished, and I’m sure he must be quite a bit heavier now than he was then

Teams have to be under the cap to even make a bid on him right?

  • Agent721

This sucks. Metta’s a warrior and puts is all into the game. I wish they kept him on.
