Metta World Peace to Sign With the New York Knicks

All along, despite the numerous potential suitors, the New York Knicks were considered the favorites to land Metta World Peace. And in the end, they won out. MWP has reached an agreement to sign a two-year deal with the Knickerbockers. Per Yahoo! Sports and the AP: “Metta World Peace has reached agreement on a two-year, $3.2 million contract with the New York Knicks, league sources said. The second year of the deal is a player option, a source said. World Peace and his agents met with Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald and coach Mike Woodson on Monday in Las Vegas and agreed to the deal in the meeting, league sources said. [...] ‘The team is amazing, the players. I’m excited to play and hustle,’ World Peace said Monday while attending the NBA summer league in Las Vegas. ‘Yes, this is going to happen,’ World Peace’s agent, Marc Cornstein, said. ‘He’s really excited to be joining his hometown team. That’s obviously been something that’s been a dream of his since growing up in Queensbridge. He’s just thrilled to be joining the New York Knicks.’ World Peace was waived Thursday by the Los Angeles Lakers, who used the amnesty clause to create salary cap space. The 6-foot-7 forward will still be paid the $7.7 million that was owed to him by the Lakers. Cornstein said the new deal came about pretty quickly. The Knicks expressed interest right after they were allowed to reach out to the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year. ‘Obviously, Metta being from the area, and also much more importantly than just being a New Yorker, seeing the way he would fit in the team,’ Cornstein said. ‘Coach (Mike) Woodson did an incredible job explaining what his role would be. (Knicks GM) Glen Grunwald really made him feel wanted. They just did a tremendous job; quite frankly, it became a pretty easy decision.’”

    Let the Insanity begin!!

Hell yea! Great pick up. No im not delusional, but this thrusts the knicks closer to title contention. Ron could score, he’s active and most importantly a defensive stopper..lets go Knicks.

  • O

Doesn’t make the Knicks an automatic contender (really, no signings will), but definitely improves the overall defense on the team. On paper the Nets still have the better team though. Glen Grunwald, you sir, suck. So does James Dolan (just ask Isiah Thomas).

  • Nathan Shane Long

now just what the hell is this retarded washed up idiot that is clearly stuck in “outta space” going to do for the Knicks

  • O

You mean Baron Davis? We been let go of the NBA’s Travis Walton.

  • LLC#12

Great pick up, he’s still an elite defender, something the Knicks need. Doesn’t push the Knicks over the edge though, imo.

  • danpowers

i love this just for the sake of entertainment.

  • LakeShow

Congrats NY. You got a great player for 1.5m this season.

  • LakeShow

You bring allot of great comments to this website. I really hope you stick around.

he’s the 4th best wing on the roster (Melo, Smith, Shumpert) . this really doesn’t change a damn thing, but let the overreacting ensue

Remember when he called Mike Brown fat? Please do the same to Woodson, Ron.

  • Nathan Shane Long

BOY I AM NOT HERE FOR COMEDY OR TO ENTERTAIN I AM HERE TO “SHOOT”

  • Cartel

As far as I’m concerned, the moves that the Knicks only made the margin between them and Brooklyn a little closer. I would like K-Mart to remain on the team also, which would make the Knicks more defensive as well offensive. But it doesn’t look like a possibility anymore…

  • Joe Blow

HAHAHAHAHAHA The Knicks are just an embarrassment to basketball period. There team is old af and continues to get older. They have no future. They would sign this laughing stalk.

  • LakeShow

    Note taken.

  • Nathan Shane Long

Ron Artest is nothing more than a living breathing LOONEY TOON

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Given the JR Smith news. Gotta love this for basketball reasons too

  • Caboose

Damn. We’re gonna have to wait on seeing the Felton, Smith, Melo, Bargs, STAT lineup then…

  • Caboose

Does that mean he can recruit Michael Jordan?

  • Dev

    Good one lol

  • Dev

Is there any other reason? lol

  • Dev

Maybe u think u gettin him when his name was still Ron

  • vannshy

    you know it’s year 2013 right ?

  • Sardo Numspa

‘Title contention’ and ‘Knicks’ just don’t go together!

  • Sardo Numspa

Haha. Y’all reading deeper into this than necessary. At this stage of his career, Artest, sorry, MWP (it’s like calling Prince ‘symbol’, it just doesn’t work) would ONLY play in a big city with the cult of celebrity. Thus NY, LAC, Bulls were really the only shot at getting him.

  • Evan Boland

Dude, NY not even close to Brooklyn, and MVP is done.

  • Evan Boland

He’s not an elite defender anymore, and didn’t even play in the playoffs last year

  • Evan Boland

No. It doesn’t improve the overall defense at all…

  • Evan Boland

    HAAHAHAHA.. Just no.

  • Dacre

…makes food taste better…?? Oh wait thats another use of MSG.

    ALRIGHTY…let the hilarity ensue

  • danpowers

lol well look at the spurs. that was un-entertaining but dead efficient basketball for years

  • danpowers
  • danpowers

didnt you know that bad knees are a basic requieremt to get a long term contract from the knicks?

  • der

everyone on this blog thinks you are a laughing stock

  • underdog

The best thing about this is that we can watch MWP guard Kobe again. Plus he’s gonna have a chip on his shoulder everytime he plays against the Lakers. Pure entertainment.

  • LLC#12

How is he not elite, how many better defenders exist at his position? Most people seem to be in agreement that this is a good pick up. Did Metta not give you an autograph when you were a kid or something?

top 10 small forwards of all time

    1 james
    2 bird
    3 pippen
    4 erving
    5 durant
    6 worthy
    7 wilkins
    8 baylor
    9 havlicek
    10 anthony

  • Roy Blumenfeld

I agree that James will end up as the best small forward ever. But I think it is premature to put him ahead of Larry Bird. At this point, they both have comparable stats/accomplishments but Larry has some edges in things-including one more ring. Lebron still has a lot more time left though!

Your list is also missing Rick Barry!

  • danpowers

i put it as i see it is otherwise i guess durant has to be put at 2 or 3 coz thats where he mosst likely end up when its all said and done. james was dominating individually for long enough, 4 finals appearences and 2 rings are enough validation for me.

  • The Seed

    1. Bird
    2. Pippen
    3. Erving

    4. James
    5. Durant
    6. Wilkins

    7. Worthy

  • Roy Blumenfeld

Yeah I thought about it, and I take back what I said about him not having a clear cut advantage over Pippen. I just did the stat comparison thing between Bird and James, the numbers/accomplishments still slant in Larry’s direction. But Larry’s career is already long over. Lebron is just now in his prime.

  • danpowers

i tend to give guys a slight edge who played or play more recently as advanced training methods dont only enable talents to do amazing things, but also strenghten their competition. its easier to destroy/defend than to create, especially with advanced athleticism. it might not be fair towards guys who didnt have access to modern training methods but i value overall performance a bit more than proportion of the times.

  • danpowers

its a matter of “taste” to put either lebron or larry at no 1. pippen better than james is just all about the amount of rings which isnt fair given the “company” pippen had during most of his career with the bulls.

we all have mad respect for erving and what the dr. did for basketball and the nba, but a better overall player than lebron james? come on…

  • initbruv

No he’s talking about an actual stalk of laughing…from Papua New Guinea.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    lmao

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    apparently huh? smh.

  • danpowers

    message on bird received, sir.

i thought baylor, havlicek and barry were all guys who would average 10 ppg at best in todays nba and wouldnt be anything close to all stars. due to respect of their accomplishments and proportion of the times i thought i have to put at least 2 of them into the list so i was actually tossing a coin over who i leave in and who gets out. couldve also ended up with barry and baylor or barry and havlicek.

put any of the others guys from the list into their times and you’d have a oscar robertson-neske stat line. put the others into today’s nba – even with modern athletic training – you’d mosst likely have a rudy fernandez or jared dudley-neske production.

  • LakeShow

    I like it.

  • Evan Boland

On this blog? Is this a blog, fool? lmao. If you think NY is even close to Brooklyn, get ready to be disappointed.

  • rocky

How about a great offender?remember when he went to a brawl with the fans a few years back?i think hed be better off at MMA!

  • rocky

    Nah

  • rocky
