Miami Heat Say Goodbye to Mike Miller With Full-Page Ad (PHOTO)

The Miami Heat waived Mike Miller, one of the more popular players with fans and inside the locker room. The organization paid tribute to the sharp-shooterwho despite his chronic back problems, is drawing interest around the NBA (Cleveland especially) — by taking out a full-page ad in Thursday editions of major South Florida newspapers. Per the Sun-Sentinel: “By amnesty-release rule, Miller is prohibited from returning to the Heat prior to the 2015 offseason. He currently is in the midst of the amnesty-waiver period, where teams with cap space can bid on the remaining two seasons on his contract. If there are no qualifying bids, Miller would become a free agent Thursday. By releasing Miller, the Heat avoided a $17 million tax payment to the NBA on his 2013-14 contract. Miller, 33, appeared in the NBA Finals in each of his three seasons with the Heat, winning NBA championships the past two. In anticipation of his amnesty release, Miller sold his Hillsboro Beach home two years ago, renting back the home this past season.”

Not sure I like this. Fair enough if he had retired, but they pushed him out of the door. Anyway, Miller to Cleveland to help entice LBJ there?

  • Joshua Maria Peter Bautista

What Ray would have gotten in green.

  • Dagger

Do you really think that Miller is the kind of player who entices superstars to sign in places like Cleveland?

  • Knicks4Evah

miller to new york! let’s do this!

  • Andy

Pushed him out the door? I’m not sure if I agree.. This move saves them roughly $40 million in the next 2 years. He was incredibly valuable for the Heat, and I really doubt this was an easy decision for them. We (Heat) are already in luxury tax hell for the next two years. This gives us some relief.

I was joking there, don’t worry!

  • Dagger

Hah, my bad. You never know with the Cavs!

  • LLC#12

Yeah they’re a loose cannon. I’m not too sure why they’re interested, I guess a veteran on that young team will come in handy. Not sure if the interest will be reciprocated though

I just think the Heat are a wealthy and lucrative enough franchise that if they had really wanted to keep Miller, they could have taken the hit. They chose not to, and Miller has been in the league long enough to know it’s business, so this kinda stuff is a little cheesy, imo.

Looks like the Lakers aren’t going for the tank this next season so I could see them offering him a 1 year deal to see if he’s still got the clutch 3 point shooting in him.

  • LP @ThisisEther

Don’t let the last couple of years fool you, they probably arent too lucrative…They aren’t some storied frachise….and the fanbase??? see Game 6 of the FINALS….

  • LP @ThisisEther

    for 10 games!!!

    I’d love that signing.

I doubt it. No way Miller (having gone to 3 straight finals and winning back-back) would go the Cleveland. If anything I see him going to another contender.

  • RR

Please retire on top.. No need to play again.. Two rings AND your getting paid?? Might as well retire

  • Dfrance

That shoeless 3 pointer was something else man.

Dude wears like 4 pairs of socks so it’s like he was wearing a shoe lol

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

depends who wins the bid for him. There are a few teams interested (according to the rumor mill) Cleveland is one of them for sure.

  • https://twitter.com/jasontichenor Mr. Wet

if someone picks him up off waivers, he has to play in order to still get paid. He can only retire and keep the cash if he clears waivers. At least I think that’s the rules.

And Going from Miami to Cleveland?

Wow,,,, we’re saying goodbye to bench dwellers that jump in and shoot miracle 3′s…
Surprisingly, Mark Madsen and Jerome Williams didn’t get theirs
    This is going too far

  • Basketball_iQ

    Vashon Leonard should get one
Dan Marley (a j goes in there somewhere) didn’t get one

  • RR

He only played in like 10 games the past two seasons.. I doubt anyone picks him up..

  • AC

Right, but his right foot still had a shoe on…..

  • AC

I hate to say it, but depending on the health of Bynum (crazy, I know), they might just be a six seed….but I see him ending up in Memphis.

  • @supportGreatHoops

    Thanks Mike! Inspiring 3 years!
