Nate Robinson to Sign With the Denver Nuggets

According to multiple reports, the Denver Nuggets have reached a two-year deal with free agent guard Nate Robinson. Per USA Today and the Denver Post: “Robinson is expected to sign a two-year deal by way of the Nuggets’ bi-annual salary cap exception worth $4.03 million combined, with a player option in the second season. Robinson is one of the few impact players among the remaining free agents, as he averaged 13.1 points and 4.4 assists with the Chicago Bulls in 2012-13 while filling in for injured point guard Derrick Rose. In addition to the Nuggets, Robinson was in talks with the Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks. If the deal is finalized as expected, this would be the sixth team Robinson has played for in his nine seasons. [...] He made 141-of-348 (.405) 3-point attempts last season, which would rank higher than only two Nuggets — Wilson Chandler (.413) and Evan Fournier (.407) — who made more than 50 attempts in 2012-13. Robinson, 29, has a bit of history with the Nuggets. He was involved in the 2006 Nuggets-Knicks fight when Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith mixed it up with Mardy Collins and Robinson. At the 2010 all-star weekend, Robinson became the first three-time slam dunk contest winner. He also won in 2006 and ’09.”

I have to admit, I’m quite surprised no team threw more money at him after his playoff performance. Meanwhile, Tyreke Evans (who has truly great potential) got a 44 million offer sheet.

I’m sure if it wasn’t about teams tryna hold out for free agency after next season, he woulda been offered bigger contracts…If I were him, I’d just take that $2mil for one season, play like I did for the Bulls and opt out for more money…

Keep fighting for all the small ballplayers around the world Nate. Keep coming with your show on YouTube too. I honestly thought he proved himself he played his heart out last year IMO.

  • LakeShow

Please start him at the 2 next to Ty Lawson.
    That would be fun :)

  • The Seed

Pacers or Nets could have used him off the bench.

    AHAHA

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Nick Tha Quick

Not with Earl Boykins coming off the bench.

  • LakeShow

    You alright bro?

yeah, the Nuggets are just so special. They are going to miss the playoffs. And people are going to act shocked. When the writing has been on the wall all summer. This just further drives the nail home. JJ Hickson and Nate Robinson were player 1 & 2 that the Nuggets should have not offered contracts too this summer…..

  • LakeShow

They will be competing for the 8th seed.
The West is pretty competitive now so it’s hard to say who will be where depending on injuries.
They have allot of talent just no defense first guys now that Iggy is gone. I expect them to win around around 45 games at best though so I pretty much agree with you…

I agree. The two biggest splashes were log jams. Poor Brian Shaw.

I would have been happy to see him in a pacer’s uniform

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i would be surprised if they broke .500 honestly.

  • danpowers

strange move. rlly suprised the nuggets offered him a contract and at the same time that he didnt sign for (or got offered?) more money elsewhere.

  • LakeShow

    I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t get to .500 so I share similar optimism(err pessimism) .

  • MUBWAR

come down. besides iggy & coach, isn’t this the same team as last year? considering they won a whooping 57 games last year (with no superstars), i’ll give them 49 wins

Look at Philadelphia’s defense after Iggy left. And they lost Kosta Koufos. Which means more JaVale McGee. I just don’t like any of it. And teams that go through these types of changes normally don’t fare well. You think the team is going to accept Brian Shaw right away anyway? They loved George Karl. And he got soooooo much more out of them than he should have. Now Brian Shaw comes in, and has pretty much going to be the opposite of Karl … Running a system offense, did I mention JaVale McGee would be getting more minutes? This all seems bad. If I’m wrong, good. But I don’t think I am.

  • patrick

Bulls gm is an idiot imo..i think this just took them out of the space of being a championship contender…

  • MUBWAR

good points. i prefer javale to be honest. aren’t they paying him like 44 mil? but that greek dude was solid too.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

JaVale might really be the better player. But a system where he needs to know what’s going on at all times? I don’t like the sound of that if you want to make the playoffs.

  • Sergio

Will Shaw implement the triangle with the Nuggets? If so, prepare yourselves for a weekly appearance of Javale in Shaqtin a Fool.

Far as I hear, no, but it will be structured

  • Basketball_iQ

If nate was 6’6,,, we wouldn’t be having this discussion,,, he is a true baller. But bc he’s 5’8/9, they undervalue him.
Tyreke Evans? 44 million,,, that’s crazy, never seen him take a game over.

  • Enigmatic

It’s not so much the GM being an idiot as it is the owner being a huge penny pincher.

And I loved Robinson in Chicago but no way is he the difference between being a championship contender or not. Especially not when the Bulls are essentially gaining Derrick Rose after losing him.

  • ses

This is crazy to me! We (The Bulls) couldn’t have offered him 2mil/year??! Wow. Nate was our x-factor that won more than his share of games for us last season. This is a head scratcher, just like Bellineli leaving for an amount that we could have paid him as well. If I had to choose between adding Nate or Teague to the G rotation, it would be a no brainer in my opinion. *Scratches his head again*……

  • LakeShow

You too hard on JaVale man hahahaaa
