Nuggets Sign JJ Hickson to Three-Year, $15 Million Deal

The Nuggets have had a bit of a rough off-season—losing their best player (Andre Iguodala) and firing their coach (George Karl)—but they aren’t done making moves just yet, as the Nugs have signed big man JJ Hickson to a three-year, $15 million contract. Per Yahoo!: “The Denver Nuggets have agreed on a three-year, $15 million-plus contract with free agent J.J. Hickson, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Denver will give Hickson, a 6-foot-9 forward-center, the annual full mid-level exception of approximately $5 million, plus the 4.5 percent annual bonuses allowed per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, sources said. The Nuggets lost free-agent forward Andre Iguodala to the Golden State Warriors on a four-year, $48 million deal. Denver GM Tim Connelly is still working to get an agreement with restricted free agent center Timofey Mozgov, sources said.”

Time for Ty Lawson to take the next step.

Ujiri is clearly no longer making the decisions around here. Dumb signing of they get mozgof

  • Roy Blumenfeld

Yeah, he is in Toronto now. The Nuggets are in full on rebuild mode.

  • theDankerNuggets

don’t understand this at all, he brings nothing that the nuggs need.

I have been a Nuggets fan my entire life……I remember from 1996-2003 I could get tickets for 10 bucks and sit near the front….those days are coming back.

  • LP @ThisisEther

No they aren’t. Full rebuild is trading most of their valuable assets, except what they want to keep, for draft picks. They still have lawson, galo, faried, and just signed Hickson. They still want to compete…..

I don’t understand this at all. Hickson is a PF masquerading as a center. He will probably end up taking PT away from Faried. Plus management’s insistence on playing the basketball genius Shaqtin Fool star Javale McGee makes me seriously doubt their competence. That and paying him 40 mil or whatever they paid him.

Well who the hell else do you got? You want McCrady? Stackhouse? I’m glad for J.J. he finally got a 3 year contract. He will get you double doubles every night. At least he is consistent. You could do far worse.

  • Basketball Coach

and they were so close on rebuilding last season. hmmm

Calm down. It’s only 15 mil for cripes sake. Get a grip.

  • roscoe

    i like this deal

  • Datkid

been time. he showed promise in every playoff series he’s been in,,, he brings that production to the regular season and he’s an all-star caliber player.

    Free Anthony Randolph

There you go. Use your Mid Level Exception to Sign an older, lesser version of Kenneth Faried. That makes a ton of sense.

  • ATL dynamite

JJ is nowhere near consistent.. a season averaging a double-double doesn’t mean anything. Watch some game actions before making such a statement. I do agree that it’s a good move fir the nuggets tho.

Playing pf against Denver must suck if you’re a bad rebounder.

  • Roy Blumenfeld

They fired the Coach of the Year, let the Executive of the Year walk away, allowed Iggy (their best player) to walk, and passed on Monta Ellis for Randy Foye. They have a lot of hard workers, but I am not sure if that will get them into the playoffs-considering Portland, New Orleans, and Minnesota all have improved while Dallas is posturing to make big moves to assure they get in this year as well.

  • LP @ThisisEther

you might think they are in “rebuild mode”, but the Nuggets haven’t gotten the memo…they still want to, and CAN, make the playoffs in the West…..i personally think they should start over, but that’s not what they are doing…Iggy opted out, he made a choice not to be with the nuggets…not like they didn’t want him on the team..
