Paul Pierce Says He Plans to Play for 10 More Years

NBA fans and observers see the end of the line for Paul Pierce’s Hall of Fame career fast approaching, but the new Brooklyn Net doesn’t agree. He defiantly tells TMZ that he plans to hoop in the L for another decade: “35-year-old Pierce was leaving a grocery store in L.A. with a bunch of water when we asked how he felt about being traded from the Celtics to the Brooklyn Nets this late in his prolific career. Paul’s reaction was classic — ‘Who says it’s the end of my career? I plan on playing ten more years dude.’”

TMZ is following dude around while he’s carrying water from the grocery store in the offseason? The hell is wrong with our culture?

  • http://www.netstakeover.com/ JetSkiJohnson

    why not lol

  • LakeShow

    Sounds realistic.
He’s always been one of the best conditioned athletes in the League.

    http://ballislife.com/paul-pierce-tells-tmz-im-playing-another-10-years/

video evidence, so it’s definitely happening.

  • Marko

F**k TMZ. Those guys are the worst. Their camera guys are always kissing celebrities’ asses when they run into them on the street.

  • robb

Also very smart and with a great skill set.

  • robb

I hate those guys, they’re scum. You don’t need a lot of talent to work there, just a camera, low moral values and no self-respect.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Sounds realistic? Name one player who played till he was 45?
    .
Lol, saying it sounds realistic is just as nonsensical as his comments.

  • The Mighty FV

Nat Hickey, oldest player in NBA history, retired 2 days before his 46 Birthday – you’re welcome.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

He played one game in 1948, went 0-6 from the field and had 5 fouls.
    .
That was also the only game he played in his career.

  • fruizm

    hahaha

  • bike

I love a response like that. One of these days, there will probably be some breakthrough in testosterone replacement therapy for men where guys will be be ballin into their 60′s and screwing everything that moves.

  • Love The Game

Look ppl. This is a case of yet another dude talking s*** in front of cameras. I’m pretty sure he was kidding.

  • Dfrance

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • spit hot fiyah

it think u missed the sarcasm

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

normally sarcasm doesn’t come with a widely agreed upon serious opinion to support it.
    .
    normally.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

some people have these facts charged up and at the ready for whenever they may become useful without knowing anything about it. haha

  • Enigmatic

Ha. Says here dude was a coach, coaching a terrible team and figured, “F it, I’ll put myself in, what have we got to lose?” LOL http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ycn-8178745

  • Dula

    He still technically “played”

  • Dula

So…where is the WIDELY agreed upon serious opinion again?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

He didn’t play until he was 45. He played one game when he was already 45 …. In 1948. Presumably because they didn’t have enough players.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    Paul Pierce’s conditioning.

  • Dula

so the upvotes were a sign of people agreeing? Or did people just see the sarcasm in it?

  • LakeShow

Yeah you’ve talked sense into me.
I retract my feelings on PP being able to play to 45.

I stand by the notion of him being one of the best conditioned athletes in the L though.

He Baron Davis and Boris Diaw are like the Usain Bolts of the L.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

You do realize Paul Pierce is 28th all-time in minutes played, and 35th all-time in Minutes Per Game right?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

How am I supposed to know? Are you one of them? If you are then you shouldn’t have to ask

  • LakeShow

    Good point.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah so it was sarcasm? man, i can’t believe you think Paul Pierce plays out of shape.

  • Dfrance

PP looks sloppy and is not toned, but I wouldn’t say he is not conditioned. He was logging heavy minutes during his prime, and carrying the offensive load the whole time.

  • LakeShow

Baron Davis has played more seasons of over 40 mpg than PP.

  • Dula

I was not one of them…
    Anyway…
Then how could you say that it was a widely agreed upon opinion without being sure on how people perceived that statement?

  • Dula

It’s not that he is out of shape, it’s he could be in better shape considering he is a pro athlete.

  • shockexchange

As a kid the Shock Exchange wanted to date Pam Grier and Lola Falana at the same ____ time. So what’s Paul’s point again?

  • Dula

So his conditioning has been the same from his rookie year up to now since we’re checking his career rankings in minutes…I think you’re on to something here nbk..

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i assumed most people reading the comments on a website devoted to basketball were not ignorant.

  • LakeShow

You are correct. His conditioning has never been a problem despite the fact he’s fat.

  • Dula

    Ignorant of…?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

ok? Baron Davis was in great shape on teams that relied on him.

    .

Paul Pierce has played over 33 minutes per game ever year for 15 years. And played over 90% of the games in every one of those 15 seasons except, 4.

    .

He’s been in extraordinary shape his whole career. Not the best shape. But never was he out of shape. Or even close to it.

    .

You don’t have 9 all star seasons in the NBA, playing top 40 in minutes per game all-time over a 15 year career, and play over 90% of your games in 11 of those 15 seasons if you have conditioning problems. Don’t be an idiot.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

oh, he could be in the best shape? so, if you aren’t in the best shape in the league you are a player with questionable conditioning? the idea that he has conditioning problems is ignorant. plain and simple.
    .
and it’s based on appearance. not on any actual evidence.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    reality?

  • j

why is that almost every single thread i visit, nbk is arguing with another commenter? nbk get a life

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

because there is someone saying something stupid in almost every single thread you visit.

  • LakeShow

lol, pretty sure your the only idiot here bud.
    Later Mr. Roboto.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

lol, nobody saw that reaction coming.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

He’s naturally bigger. Was actually fat as a kid. But Has never had a weight problem in the NBA.
    .
For example, Paul Pierce has played more minutes in his career then Steve Nash…..who is older, was drafted sooner, and is considered the most “in shape” player in the league by other players..
    .
“The last couple years, I played at 240, 245, but I think I’m going to go back down to my college weight and play at 230,’’ he said. ‘‘I’m at, like, 238 now. Playing at 240 or 245 is not bad, but I want to come in lighter and faster.” – Paul Pierce, 2007

  • LakeShow

    You win?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i know he’s never been out of shape. his conditioning was a question going into his rookie year, and that was strictly related to his body type, and he proved that concern wrong immediately. i didn’t think that POV persisted

  • Jayvee

Dude, first of all, calling somebody an idiot is not cool..can’t people just have a debate with you without you being so…hostile?

So, your idea of “conditioning” is about the raw numbers of minutes played and games played.
    Did you even consider these:
How did he fare in back to backs?
Did his level of play go down after he plays certain minutes?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i said don’t be an idiot. insinuating i know he isn’t an idiot, but perpetuating this myth is idiotic. is that a tough concept?

    .

my idea of conditioning is to be in good enough shape to be a high level basketball player consistently over a large number of minutes per game over a long period of time.

    .

your idea of conditioning is how he looks? literally, give me any other evidence at your disposal to support the idea that he is or has ever been in poor shape during his NBA basketball career?

  • Jayvee

Wait wait wait wait wait…who said anything about conditioning is determined on how somebody looks?

Nobody is giving Pierce flak on how he performed in over a decade worth of hard work. We are talking about the NOW.

NBK, do us all a favor. Go out and develop better social skills. You spend way too much time in the inter webs..

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

“We are talking about the NOW”

    .

Now? Now he’s 10lb’s lighter than he was 8 years ago, and playing 3 whole minutes less.

    .
NO matter when you are talking about, if you think he has conditioning issues, you are ignorant.
    .
I don’t care about being nice to you. LOL, sorry, i’m here to waste time. not be your friend.

  • Jayvee

Digging up an over a half decade long quote really helps your case here. Good job nbk!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

because there aren’t many quotes about his weight after that. as i said earlier, the legitimate conditioning concerns revolving around Pierce disappeared when he was a rookie. And at no point has there been a reason to question it since. He volunteered that information, and that is the most recent i can find anyone even talking to him about conditioning. If you have something sooner, that you think is more relevant please present it.
    .
Normally, when something isn’t an issue, there isn’t anywhere that it is addressed…..you know, because it isn’t an issue.

  • Jayvee

Nobody said that you are not nice.
What i meant on you needing to develop social skills is that you:

Always think that you are right.
Never listen to anybody’s opinion and why they think that way, resulting in you never learning anything from anybody.
Get agitated easily when things don’t go your way.
Rehash your same old ideas over and over and never bring up new points, resulting on people get tired of talking to you and just say sayonara.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    - Who says things thinking they are wrong?
    - What opinion am I missing here? Lakeshow thinks Paul Pierce is fat because of how he looks, ask him. And that’s the only reasoning anyone has given. Which, considering that, Lakeshow is somehow being the most logical person on that side of this conversation.
    - LOL, I’m not agitated. You are just assuming I’m agitated because I said “idiot” or “ignorant” or some other word that seemed like an emotional response – when i’m just being honest.
    - I rehash my points? Have you presented a point, a single one?
    .
Maybe you should spend less time judging me, and more time paying attention to the actual conversation…

  • Evan Boland

If you don’t work as hard as Kobe, do better.

  • Caboose

    Shaq. Zach Randolph.

  • yoyo

Here’s some sarcasm, nbk is highly intelligent and not an ego maniac at all. Go ahead respond, because you always have to have the last response…anyone else can google aswell, fool

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Shaq just played more 100 more games than Pierce has in his career. That’s the only reason he has more total minutes…. And what about Randolph? He’s nowhere close in either.

  • Caboose

I assume Randolph will. But I was more just being an a$$hat. Cause it’s fun that’s why.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

So are you sarcastically calling me a fool or intelligent….

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Catch Paul Pierce in minutes? Lol you are a nut

  • The Mauve Avenger

Pierce is slick and let’s the defender beat themself, he definitely average 15-20 in his 40′s.

  • initbruv

Listen to these guys getting all emotional. It’s all coming out now lol “we hate that nbk is participating in the same thing we are, except he’s actually contributing.”

  • initbruv

    *in

  • bobb

and very consistent with his numbers throughout his career.

  • dannyb

This is really surprising. I would have expected Pierce to have a built-in water filter

  • Corky

NBK is absolutely right is nearly everything he has said. You clowns are silly.

  • bb91103

They were waiting for other celebs in LA where celebs are everywhere. Paul Piece, KG, Tyson Chandler and probable a quarter of the NBA live in LA in the off season. So no they did not follow Paul Pierce around watching him carry water. God you are stupid. And to have to nerve to say what is wrong with our culture.
