Steve Nash Has Tryout With Inter Milan

Steve Nash will “try out” with Italian soccer club Inter Milan on July 30. Nash, who holds celebrity soccer game every summer in Manhattan, will play with the club during its North American exhibition tour. Via AP: “The two-time NBA MVP gets to become a soccer player again — if only briefly. The Lakers guard who grew up playing soccer and still has deep ties within the sport will have a tryout of sorts with Inter Milan, before the storied team opens play in the Guinness International Champions Cup tournament that’s coming to the U.S. next week. The tournament features eight club teams from around the world, with a winner to be crowned in Miami Gardens, Fla. on Aug. 7. ‘It’s a dream come true to get a chance to try out, not just to try out but to take the field with Inter Milan, one of the great, storied franchises in professional sports,’ Nash said in an interview with The Associated Press. ‘I feel like a little kid.’ Tournament officials said the tryout will take place in New Jersey, two days before Inter Milan opens its portion of the Guinness event in Indianapolis against Chelsea. And Nash expects to be feeling a fairly ramped-up level of nervousness when he laces up his cleats for that training session.”

Dude who broke his leg last season? In cleats on a soccer field? Not sure this is a great idea. Given how average the Lakers are probably going to be next season, he should think about taking it easy with the soccer this summer besides his annual celebrity game that he already had.

Having said that, this sounds like a dream chance for him to take while he’s still in great shape. I hope he has fun with it.

True. Just would be a little concerned if I were Jim Buss, Mitch Kupchak and Mike D’Antoni.

    Hell yea lol. Pockets sweating.

Steve Nash.. the only NBA player with a ‘soccer clause’ in his contract lol!

Not really, its how he keeps himself in shape during the offseason. Its basically no different than doing weight training to keep in shape( i believe Kevin Love broke his hand doing push ups, and another player broke their forearm using a BOSU ball or something), or playing basketball games in and of itself in those leagues, injuries cud happen there too. Its not like he’s playing in the middle of recovery or anything, he says he’s pretty close to 100% now and again, this is basically what he does every summer to keep in shape, play soccer.

    He’s living the dream lol.

Given that using different muscle groups is probably the best thing to do in the off season this is a fine pursuit for Nash. Consider too that he knows the right techniques for playing soccer the right way the chance of injury is low. I appreciate your comments on the matter but Nash will be fine here…. the biggest danger is that he leaves the NBA for a football career…. :-(
