Al Harrington Says the Wizards Will ‘Definitely’ Make the Playoffs

Free agent forward Al Harrington confirmed the rumors that he was nearing a deal with the Washington Wizards. Much like his new teammates, the veteran seems to think the Playoffs are the next step for these Wizards. Per the WaPo: “Once he made the decision last Saturday that he wanted to join the Wizards, veteran free agent forward Al Harrington shared the news with John Wall via text message. ‘The first thing he said was, ‘Help me get to the playoffs,’ Harrington recalled Wall telling him. Harrington is confident that he can help Wall make the playoffs for the first time in his career — and also end the Wizards’ five-year postseason drought. After a season spent recovering from a staph infection following surgery on his right knee and as a misplaced piece in the Orlando Magic’s rebuilding efforts, the 33-year-old Harrington is eager to once again play a significant role on a team that is playing for something. He plans to board a flight to Washington on Tuesday for a physical and eventually sign a one-year deal worth the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million with the Wizards because he believes the franchise is ready to return to respectability. ‘I’m excited and I feel like this team is definitely going to make the playoffs,’ Harrington said in a telephone interview late Monday night. ‘And I don’t care. I’ll go on record saying that. I feel like if this team is healthy, it will be one of the top eight teams in the East, for sure.’ In desperate pursuit of a big man who could stretch the floor and knock down open shots, the Wizards quickly pounced on Harrington after the Magic waived him and he cleared waivers. In 15 years in the NBA, Harrington has earned a reputation as a reliable reserve capable of erupting for scoring bursts and creating space with his perimeter shooting.”

SLAM mistakenly left the following off the article’s title, “Ain’t that right John Wall?”

i wouldnt count Celtics out – if healthy they still better than Cavs & Hawks and probably also Wizards

You think a team with Rondo, Jeff Green and Kris Humphries headlining is better than a team led by Kyrie, Waiters, Thompson, Bynum, Earl Clark and not to mention Varejao and Bennett?

by what logic? and Rondo tore his ACL….remember? it’s not like he’s going to be healthy to start the year….and it’s also not like he has a jumper to fall back on if he lost some of that quickness.

    Oh sorry and Jarrett Jack

John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter, Okafor, Nene with Al Harrington, Trevor Ariza, Trevor Booker, Martel Webster, Eric Maynor, and Jan Vessley off the bench really isn’t that bad of a team. Plus, they have Sam Cassell on the coaching staff! At the very least, he can teach them all the big balls dance.

Bro you forgot about Luke Walton…

  • Junkie

Nah they gave up the rights for him. I wish the Raptors were better now so all my teams would be exciting this year.

  • RKJ92

Dude Luke Walton reference was a joke LOL Luke Walton is baaaaddddd.. but talk around Toronto is were making a package to trade, so we can tank. Everybody is available but Valanciunas apparently so I’m really interested to see what happens.

  • Junkie

Dude Luke Walton is such a bad memory I’m not sure I’m ready to joke about him yet hahaha. Really? Being a Torontonian I hated picking up Rudy Gay let’s hope Masai can pull off a few more miracles with trades like the Barg trade.

  • RKJ92

Oh, I’m sure he can whip up something.. he raped in his Carmelo trade, who’s to say he can’t do that again with a whole package of Rudy Gay, DD, Lowry, and Ross; and for the love of god I hope he trades Landry Fields for some kind of asset..

  • Junkie

Yeah getting rid of Gay and Fields are definitely top priorities, maybe Derozan as well but we definitely have way too many wings on the team still and we need to make trades cause we don’t have any first rounders for 2014 do we?

  • RKJ92

I would rather trade Gay he’s unrestricted, and too much money, plus he’s what I like to call “brandname” we should be able to get something nice in return as he is our so-called “star” player lol.. Hopefully it results in a first round pick this year, if we get 2 i’m drooling lmao.
