Heat, Lakers and Knicks Lead With 25 National TV Games Each

A closer look at the 2013-14 regular season schedule reveals, not too surprisingly, that three of the most popular (and polarizing) teams in the NBA will be featured on national television the most. Per NBA.com: “The Lakers, Heat and Knicks lead with 25 scheduled appearances on TNT, ESPN and ABC national telecasts, followed by the Thunder and Bulls with 24, the Clippers with 21 and the Rockets with 20. In addition, NBA TV will show all of those teams and many others as part of a 96-game schedule that includes 19 Fan Night games. Fans will vote on NBA.com each week to determine which games will appear on NBA TV for the Tuesday night Fan Night games.”

When was the last time a team that missed the Playoffs got the maximum number of national tv games that year? It’s about to happen.

the last year LAL didn’t make the playoffs

  • MUBWAR

i don’t think the lakers will miss the playoffs this year. i see them as 7th or 8th

And the league wonders why all the players want to play for large market teams. How will the groupies and advertisers know you if you’re never on T.V.?

  • theDankerNuggets

there are soo many more young and exciting teams to watch than the Lakers, the fact that they still got the max amount of nationally televised games is straight BS!

Every year around this time I start kicking myself for cutting the cable cord. The picture quality on the streaming sites is horrible for me, and I don’t trust League Pass broadband because I’ve heard so many bad things about it. Not to mention, what’s the point if all the games for my local team will be blacked out anyways?

I’ve pretty much resigned myself to catching the box scores and highlights the day after games, as well as the occasional game on TNT Overtime.

Kobe Bryant’s recovery will be interesting for most people to watch.
So I don’t think it’s as bad as most people are making it sound that the Lakers get the max number of games.

  • shockexchange

What kind of PED is he using to recover so quickly … “Robert Horry spray”?

    What’s MBL?

You playing down at Giggles tonight?
    Hilarious man. Absolute riot.

Nets actually have 26…do your research, SLAM.

Heat/Lakers on Christmas Day is extremely stupid. Heat should be pissed.

  • Ishmael Jenkins

    Too much both.

  • Ishmael Jenkins

Russell Westbrook flying all over the place and KD scoring on everybody is boring to you?

  • JibbsIsBallin

I was taking my steroids and all of a sudden got angry at the keyboard. I will try my best to get the spelling correctly in the future so that guys like you can actually comment on the article.

  • straight cake

Spurs, Thunder, Clippers, Rockets, Warriors, Grizzlies, Nuggets, Pelicans. If these teams stay healthy I cant see the Lakers making the playoffs especially if Kobe is not back for the season opener or is delayed for a December return and/or one of those teams collapses at the seasons end.

  • theDankerNuggets

idk if I would necessarily be happy about that if I were a Lakers fan, they might not be very competitive in a lot of these games

  • RunNGun

Ah… another reason why you don’t need to follow these teams on League Pass.

To much Lakers, too little Pacers.

  • The Seed

Kobe still gets the shine at his old age. Popular is him.

  • JibbsIsBallin

I agree man. That is not a rivalry anymore. Shaq doesn’t play, Kobe has nothing against Wade and Lebron. It should be a Tuesday night game shown on local TV.

  • JibbsIsBallin

And don’t forget Kendrick Perkins just being pretty much angry the whole game for no apparent reason.
