Kobe Bryant Voted Favorite Player Among NBA Rookies

Kobe Bryant is your favorite rookie’s, favorite player. According to an NBA.com survery of first-year youngsters, Kobe edges out LeBron James in terms of popularity: “Who is your favorite player in the league? 1: Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers — 21.2 percent, 2: LeBron James, Miami — 15.2 percent, T-3rd: Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City & Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas — 12.1 percent, T-5th: Kevin Garnett, Brooklyn & Chris Paul, L.A. Clippers — 9.1 percent, Others receiving votes: Carmelo Anthony, New York; Vince Carter, Dallas; Tim Duncan, San Antonio; James Harden, Houston; Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio; Steve Nash, L.A. Lakers; Dwyane Wade, Miami. Worth noting: LeBron won his second straight championship, but couldn’t retain his spot as the rookies’ favorite player. As Kobe nears the end of his career, he still gets love from the kids.”

Well, so much for people saying that no other NBA players like him…

  • BugEyes

Everybody loves Kobe, they just don’t want to admit it. The only thing you should hate about kobe is the moonshoes debacle, that he represented in the late 90s

  • LLC#12

Wonder how their opinion will change once they’ve played against him a couple times.

  • JoeMaMa

Dirk’s third? I don’t see him being a favourite to anyone else than Germans, Mavs fans, or Heat hate….LIGHT BULB!!!

  • theDankerNuggets

wow Dirk tied KD for third! That’s a little surprising

  • patrick

lol it’s not in this sentence

  • Ryan Seavey

Kelly Olynyk playin’ for my C’s must love Dirk’s game… kid is going to be special IMO

  • spit hot fiyah

some of these guys were like 2-3 years old when kobe was a rookie, that is crazy and makes me feel old.

  • Mariano

I’m 99% sure that it was Tony Snell that voted Kawhi Leonard

  • Jake

As a proud moon shoe owner, I resent that remark! Mine are still in pristine condition.

  • shockexchange

This could only mean one thing – these rookies must like to shoot a lot.

  • Truth34

It’s because they grew up watching him become the NBA’s superstar (property of David Stern), not because of his persona… In 5 yrs it will be LBJ, in ten it will be Durant, in fifteen it’ll be… ? Simple as that.

  • DAMN!

to be fair, they’re not nba players just yet, and haven’t played against the mamba.

  • DAMN!

Man I’m lookin forward to see him alongside rondo…

  • BugEyes

I have a pair to lol they are. comfy though

  • Dfrance

D@mn those shoes were ugly. lol

  • RayJr

Which one’s were the moon shoes? The Kobe 2′s?

  • TR

I would think it was LeBron by now..Most of these kids have proabbly been watching LeBron their whole lives and well they missed a good bit of Kobe’s unless they followed bball since birth

  • JoeMaMa

Yeah, I’d like to think he has a high ceiling. It’ll take a few years to get anything, though. He’s too slow on the perimeter and not strong enough down low. Having said that, he knows his way about the bucket, and he showed range in the summer league. If I’m Boston, I’d be happy with a Dirk Lite. But light on the lite.

  • pposse

    misguided youth.

  • Jake

    Yeah.

you are really under the impression that it should be pronounced, “Rookies.es” lmao. it’s rookies. don’t think too hard. the apostrophe is unnecessary altogether.

  • LakeShow

Yes… Never should you like a top 10′er…

  • whooo!

It must really suck for rookies whose favorite is KG… Imagine how it feels when you play your idol for the first time and dude cusses out your mom, your wife, your sister, your kids, the grandparents… and then drops adds an elbow or two for good measure.

  • pposse

I’m surprised DH didn’t get any votes! Another note I was watching the 1998 NBA all star game the other day on NBA tv and im not goin to lie it kind of softened my defiant stance against kobe.

  • The Seed

    DUH!!!

  • Ishmael Jenkins

No surprise here. Wonder what would have happened if Iverson was a part of the group they voted on.

  • shutup

    Trying to hard…….

  • Conor

    Araujo Jr., ladies and gentlemen.

  • Conor

They know who the sensei is.

  • Mike From Spain

kids as a rookie? OK continue

  • Mike From Spain

I think it needs to be rookies’ in that phrase, but what do I know

  • LP @ThisisEther

    I hope so, Go Bulls…

  • LP @ThisisEther

hope that wasn’t the joint when Isiah thomas was commentator d-riding Kobe the whole game!!

  • LP @ThisisEther

The “rookies” don’t possess anything. Rookies.

  • Mike From Spain

“Kobe Bryant is the rookies’ favourite player” is equivalent to “Kobe Bryant is Mike_From_Spain’s favourite player”
“Kobe Bryant is the rookies favourite player” is equivalent to “Kobe Bryant is Mike_From_Spain favourite player”

I think the last phrase seems wrong… or it could be that the apostrophe is just not needed. I am not trying to pick an argument, I want to know…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

we aren’t talking about one specific rookie. it’s not, “the rookie”
    .
the possessive noun in the above sentence is, “your” – not rookies.

  • LP @ThisisEther

I only respond to picked arguments…. the first is correct, i think.

  • NBA Historian

Have you heard of NBA TV? You know, where games from all eras are televised? It must be lonely under that rock.

  • JL

Who would want DH as their role model? I don’t think even casual fans will give him any respect after his recent waffling. Maybe only Houston fans because they have no choice.

  • JL

    maybe it’s the euro rookies?
