New York Knicks to Sign Beno Udrih (UPDATE)

UPDATE: According to Newsday, the Knicks and Udrih have reached an agreement on a one-year deal: “Beno Udrih will sign a one-year deal with the Knicks according to a league source. Udrih will get the vet minimum and give the Knicks depth and leadership at point guard. Udrih is a good pickup for the Knicks. He’s averaged 9.1 points and 3.6 assists for the Spurs, Kings, Bucks and Magic.”

Free agent guard Beno Udrih and the New York Knicks have been linked in rumors this summer, and according to the NY Post, the Knicks have the best shot at landing the 31-year old (to a $1.27 minimum contract): “The Knicks will consider it a great value signing since Udrih made $7 million last season, leaving the Knicks long shots to land him. But the market apparently dried up for the left-handed veteran who has played on four teams, including Orlando and Milwaukee last season when he combined for 66 games. The Knicks are looking for a third point guard to complement Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni. Being from Europe is another plus for Udrih, as Italy’s Andrea Bargnani is known to prefer hanging out with Europeans or foreign players. Udrih averaged 8.2 points with 4.6 assists last season. He has also played with San Antonio and Sacramento, mostly as a backup. In 628 games, he has made 243 starts. Wednesday, the Knicks worked out point guard Bobby Brown of the Italian League, but he likely will finish runner-up to Udrih, whom the Knicks prefer. Brown had already signed with a Chinese team but can break the deal by Aug. 15.”

    Bargs the racist?

And here I was thinking the only things Bargs hated were defense and rebounding…

nice, i think this guy is under-rated

Slovenia and Italy are so similar with such similar cultures and a nearly identical language that Bargnani and Beno will get along just fine……

It seems much of the world thinks Europe is just one big country.

Anyway, I would have liked to have seen Brown in the NBA but, I guess Beno is more of a known commodity.

Very good signing. Team improved this offseason very much, title contenders? No, but 5th seed is a little low in my opinion. I got them at 4 to 3, and a second round exit.

Wow, underrated player and great deal for the Knicks.

Mehhh.. 31 years old, and mediocre talent isn’t gonna do this team much good as their not poised to win a championship anytime soon, I’d be looking to sign younger talent but kudos to the Knicks for trying!
