Nicolas Batum Says LaMarcus Aldridge Doesn’t Want to Be Traded

According to Blazers teammate Nicolas Batum (who echoes the team’s front office), star forward LaMarcus Aldridge hasn’t been pushing for a trade. Per HoopsHype: “How do you like the moves the Blazers have made this offseason? NB: ‘They’ve made some good moves. We improved our bench a lot. We kept the same starting lineup but they tried to strengthen our bench and that’s good for us. Maurice Williams, Dorell Wright, Thomas Robinson… All those guys are good for us.’ What was the best move this offseason? NB: ‘(Improving) the point guard position. Now we have three point guards like Damian [Lillard], who won Rookie of the Year last season, Maurice Williams, who can start on any team and will be a backup for us this season, Earl Watson…’ What is a realistic goal for you this season? NB: ‘I think the playoffs. We have to try to get a spot and we have the team to do it. Get a good spot and go from there.’ [...] There have been these rumors that (Aldridge) has privately demanded a trade from Portland… NB: ‘I heard that too and I laughed when I read that. He doesn’t want to get traded, he wants the team to get better. LaMarcus is a winner.’ He has told you that? NB: /I mean, I know that’s what he wants. We had two bad seasons and missed the playoffs and wants the team to improve. I think he didn’t ask for a trade. He wants to stay and win with the Blazers. He just wants a better team around him so we can get back to the playoffs.’”

LA + lopez for david lee and barnes/thompson

so that golden state can play bogut and lopez together as twin towers and give away on the best prospects in the league. sure

Why would it be twin towers with LA starting with Bogut? The W’s already have Iguodala signed to play ahead of Barnes, which I think speaks to how “win now” they are, so getting a in the prime LA would definitely help, and is an improvement over David Lee. Thompson won’t be part of that deal to keep their SG position in tact. Lee and barnes is more than enough, but the why would the blazers want a SF? They already have Batum. This is make less sense the more I think about it.

Trading LA sort of makes sense for Portland, they’re currently a fringe playoff team and nothing more. They can maximise his value and potentially pick up draft picks for next year but Damian Lillard is undoubtedly their franchise’s future and trading LA will harm Lillard’s growth.

Unless they can pick up a veteran PF in return (along with draft picks) then I don’t see the upside.

They had a good off season, maybe wait until All Star week and see how Thomas Robinson plays with a decent amount of PT. If Robinson, Lopez & Batum all step up, then maybe trade LA. If they’re in any way ‘in it’ in the west, I say keep LA and make a playoff run, rather than risking everything for a small shot at a good draft pick.

Regardless of him asking for a trade the Blazers should keep LA. He’s a top 5 Power Forward/ Center in the league right now and he’s been their best player for the past 5 seasons. Unless a no-brainer deal comes up I don’t think he’s going anywhere anyway.
