LeBron James has won two straight MVPs and four of the last five. Will he do it again in ’13-14?

Will LeBron James win MVP again this season?

    Bron has peaked finally.
KD’s time to rise and take the throne.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    he peaked? you mean statistically?

  • LakeShow

Yeah statistically and overall as a player this last year.
He can get smarter and more skilled, but not more athletic and quicker.

So he has to continue the transformation of his game down to the low block.

    He’ll still put up 27 – 8 – 6 on 50+% though.

I’m just expecting next step from KD:

    30 – 8 – 5 on 50 – 40 – 90

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

You said largely the same exact thing last year.

  • LakeShow

    I know.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

and, as was the same last year, you realize the gap between Durant and LeBron is A LOT larger than Pts-Reb-Ast-Shooting % ……. right?

  • LakeShow

Durant has taken major leaps defensively too.

He is a very good defensive player now.

James is better, but the margin is being closed as we speak.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

no it really really really isn’t close. Durant went from bad to pretty good most of the time. that doesn’t put him anywhere near LeBron. who is elite, at FOUR defensive positions….

  • LakeShow

    Yes it is.

I don’t think you’ve noticed Durant’s improvements defensively and I don’t think you give his offensive game enough credit.

It’s nice that Bron can dish dimes better, but it just doesn’t make him comparable offensively to Durant.

Durant is better offensively about the same amount as he is worse defensively.

And KD has improved every year so we can expect more of the same.

  • chewy

    Kobe gonna get MVP

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    LeBron is better on offense……
    .
And yes, I have paid attention. I am the only person who i’ve seen who actually had Durant on an All-Defensive team….for example. But he’s not close to LeBron. Not at all.
    .
And again, LeBron is still the better offensive player. idk why that is so hard for you to understand.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

there is a reason LeBron has a higher Offensive Rating / Defensive Rating / Win Shares / PER, both in the regular season, AND in the playoffs.
    .
    it’s not close.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

per 36 minutes, LeBron averaged more rebounds/assists/steals/less turnovers……Durant scored 0.8 more points, and blocked more shots…..
    .
Really the only thing Durant does better than LeBron is shoot……and that’s the way it has always been.

  • Caboose

    Lol.

  • LakeShow

Yes I know there is a reason. It’s because he plays point guard and PF on offense and he anchor’s his team defensively.

KD’s team doesn’t need him to be a big play maker.(he obviously is not nor will ever be the play maker Bron is. He doesn’t need to be to be the MVP)

You don’t put him on an All Defensive team without him being close to Bron defensively.

I think KD is on Deng’s level (a year or two ago Deng)defensively at the SF position. I would put it as Iggy, Bron, Paul George, then Durant.

Durant is the better scorer and end of game finisher. He scored 1 more ppg on the same amount of shots as Bron. Durant is the only SF not named Larry to be in the 40 – 50 -90, he’s just incredibly elite offensively.

I think this is the season he takes the MVP from Bron.

I do believe Bron peaked this year. Next year he will not be better. As good, possibly, but not better.

    We’ll see man.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

actually, in the playoffs, that’s exactly what the Thunder asked Kevin Durant to do…(which is why he averaged 6 assists)….and it didn’t work. Because he doesn’t have the skill-set to do that, and still dominate games.

    .

“You don’t put him on an All Defensive team without him being close to Bron defensively”

    - Yes I do. Simple, he was an all-defensive level Small Forward for his team, in his system. His “issues” defensively were well hidden, and for what he was tasked to do, he did really well. But he isn’t close to LeBron as an overall defensive player. There really aren’t many guys that are.
—- And you forgot Kawhi Leonard. Who is probably right behind Iggy and James.
    .
    ,
Durant is a better scorer. He is incredibly elite on offense. But he still isn’t, and has never been, as good as LeBron.
    .
He may take MVP, but it won’t be because he’s actually better.
    .
We will see. And even if LeBron is not as good as he was this year, he was still considerably better than everyone else.
    .

  • LakeShow

What is with me and forgettign about Leonard…

You always make this about who is the better player…

This is MVP discussion and I feel pretty confident Durant is getting it next year.

“We will see. And even if LeBron is not as good as he was this year, he was still considerably better than everyone else.”

…No he won’t, if KD improves at anywhere close to the rate he has every year he has been in the L.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you read that last quote wrong. i didn’t say he will still be considerably better. but that he was last season. so there is no reason to think that if he plays slightly worse, that it will actually be worse than anyone. It’s like saying MJ took a step back after 1993….even though he was still clearly the best player in the world.

  • LakeShow

Hakeem Olajuwon had a case for best player in 1992-1993.
    KD is my Hakeem.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

No he didn’t. Lol. You realize Jordan averaged 44 in the finals that year? Looooool, I was more saying in ’95 when he came back, after how great he was in ’93 (when it wasn’t close).

  • LakeShow

Are you talking about best player again or REGULAR SEASON MVP??

Hakeem took the Rockets to 55 wins.
MJ took the Bulls to 57 wins.

    Hakeem averaged 26 – 13 – 4 – 4 – 2 on 53% FG’s
    Jordan averaged 33 – 7 – 6 – 2 – 1 on 50% FG’s

    It’s highly arguable.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    Jordan was better.

  • LakeShow

Not as efficient. Not as good a defender. MJ had the better team.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Actually Jordan was more efficient. FG% doesn’t = More Efficient.
    .
Jordan had a higher eFG%, less turnovers, more assists, more points…….Jordan was more efficient.
    .
    Higher PER
    Higher Offensive Rating
    .
The Bulls won (2) more games, and Jordan had an entire Win Share more than Olajuwan.
    .
Everything says Jordan was better at everything but defense. Everything.

  • LakeShow

    Actually… Hakeem had a higher eFG% and TS%.

He was substantially better than Jordan defensively.

Their PER is a 2 point differential.

The Bulls were a better squad they should have won 2 more games.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

my bad i was looking at Jordan’s eFG in ’91
    .
That 2 points in PER is pretty damn huge.
    .
And the win thing you keep mentioning….do you remember the league in ’93? The East was a lot tougher (like the West is now). Saying Jordan’s team should have won 2 more games is like saying Kobe’s 2006 Lakers should have won more games than Dwyane Wade’s 2009 Heat because he had better teammates. Totally ignoring the context of what conference he was playing in.
    .
you can argue that Hakeem was better if you really want……but that pretty much goes against every, “Kobe is the best player in the league” argument you have ever made in your entire life.

  • LakeShow

    No it doesn’t lol…

My point is that Hakeem is KD, and he can win MVP this year.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah, who was the best player in the NBA from 2004-2007?
    .
    You better say Kevin Garnett.
    .
and the MVP award is political. a year in year out MVP race has nothing to do with who the “best” player is. we both know any random dude on a great team can win, if he’s given enough attention.

  • LakeShow

You are the weirdo arguing best player… I have no idea why that’s your argument in a MVP forum.

From 2004- 2007… Yeah Garnett has an argument for a season or two in that time…….

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    really?

    .

“Hakeem Olajuwon had a case for best player in 1992-1993.KD is my Hakeem.”
    .
the question is, are you contradicting yourself on purpose?

  • LakeShow

I meant mvp just like this forum is about and what I have been arguing.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

so you have that syndrome that Ellen has in finding nemo? i mean, if you forgot the rest of what i had been saying, you could just make the assumption that you replying with the word “best” would register in my brain as an entirely different word…..errrr…..phrase

  • CKLOH

Statistics like PER are bullshit. Brandon Wright had a PER of 21. It’s a joke.
