Danny Ainge Would Be ‘Shocked’ If Rajon Rondo Played On Opening Night

Rajon Rondo underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL back in February, and there’s hope that he’ll return during the first half of the season. Don’t get too exited about the prospect of him playing all 82, though. From ESPN.com:  “‘I don’t think we would ever succumb to the pressure of bringing back a player from an ACL too soon,’ said [Celtics GM Danny Ainge]. ‘We’ve got to do what’s right for him. He’s young — maybe if he was 37 and it was his last year, but he’s still so young. And he’s our best player. We can’t afford to make any mistakes and judgment on when to bring him back.’ Pressed on if Rondo could be back for opening night, Ainge offered, ‘I would be shocked.’”

Pull a Noel, Rondo – give your team a chance to stink.

low key shot at the lakers?

rondo would be crazy to come back at the beginning of the season. ACl injuries are no joke, even when the doc clears you to run (which most likel is 4-6 months post op), the knee will swell on you real quick.

indeed. plus, the longer he takes to return the higher the celtics draft stock. even though this celtics team really thinned out – its hard to imagine that they would be bad enough with rondo on board to have a legit shot at the no1 pick / last seed in the east.

I bet we beat y’all a couple of times this season while you rapping bout my team…. A friendly lil PayPal on it?

i dont bet at all, but nice idea. with rondo, green, an nba ready olynyk, etc they could even scratch on reaching the 8th seed. thats the worst thing that could happen to the franchise thats why i said it would be better if rondo sits out as long as possible.

i just dont see the celtics beating the knicks more often than once this season (barring major injuries) even if rondo will be back.
