Erik Spoelstra Finalizing Multi-Year Extension With Miami Heat

Hard to argue Erik Spoelstra doesn’t deserve to be locked up long-term by the team he’s coached to two consecutive NBA Championships. According to Yahoo!, the Miami Heat are in the process of adding a few years to Spo’s deal: “Two-time NBA championship coach Erik Spoelstra is finalizing a multiyear contract extension with the Miami Heat, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Spoelstra could’ve become the most sought free agent to hit the coaching market since Phil Jackson, and likely staved off a bidding war next summer by choosing to re-sign with the only franchise he’s ever known. The deal is expected to be made public before the start of the Heat’s training camp in the Bahamas this week, sources said. While most league owners and executives expected Spoelstra to ultimately remain with Miami, several franchises have intimated to Yahoo Sports they would’ve been prepared to pursue Spoelstra with the zeal of a star free agent had the Heat been unable to complete a deal to keep him.”

Dude’s pretty good at game and ego management. Props. He deserves an extension.

I’m having the hardest time respecting Spo as a great coach. But I guess this is just the burden of having the greatest player in the world and a great supporting staff. I would argue that miami heat GM is far more invaluable than spo. I’m fully aware that this is a criticism that is easy to make being completely outside to the coaching industry but I really feel like any headcoach would have had the same result as spo.

I hate it when Spo gets criticism for nothing.
I didn’t like the guy at first, but over time I’ve begone to respect him alot more.
