Kevin Durant Believes James Harden is Better Than Dwyane Wade

During an interview this week, Kevin Durant was told that Sports Illustrated ranked Dwyane Wade as the eighth best player in the League, while James Harden was left off of the top 10. KD disagreed, and spoke up about it. His comments led to this exchange on Twitter:

    This is great.

  • anon

I like KD’s response – deading it right there. Another player *cough* JR *cough* would have escalated this nonsense.

  • burnt_chicken

“History”. As in past tense. The only way Durant will be reminded of THAT DWade is by watching Youtube highlights.

  • Sean Superstar Juan

KD is confident in his answer but wrong. Harden has to become a better two way player before reaching the top 10. Just by reading body language, KD was already shaking his head when he heard the mention of Wade’s name at number 8, seems like something a lil deeper.

  • Caboose

Honestly, they’re both top 10. And Wade is better than Harden.

  • Mike Gilbert

Harden is not top 10…super stars play super star defense

  • Evan Boland

Kobe, KD, Bron, CP3, Melo, Parker and Westbrook are definitely better. The last three in the top 10 I give to Timmy, DWade and Harden. So I got em both top 10.

  • Caboose

    1. Kobe
    2. Carmelo
    3. Curry
    Nope.

  • grgeblck

    a war has begun.

  • grgeblck

    That finals still haunting KD.

  • keyon dooling
  • Smits#45

Awesome. Love the competitiveness. As much as I don’t like Dwyane Wade I must say he’s the better overall player than James Harden. For now…

  • Armando

Also Wade, this isn’t about respecting your place in history. It is having an opinion about who’s the better player right now. And next time, don’t mix caps and lower case letters, it’s annoying.

  • playa

    Harden’s reaction :

  • Shooting Guard

Durant’s respnse is based on his friendship with harden. Dwade please don’t pay attention to this

  • AboveYou

One thing’s for sure, Harden better bust his ass to prove his boy is right this season.

  • JibbsIsBallin

I wonder if KD knows the stats and career accmpllishments between the 2 players before he made this comment. I don’t even think Wade should’ve responded. Just keep quiet and be the Wade that he’s been . I don’t think Wade will ever get the respect he deserves. This man has proved all his doubters wrong his whole career. Forget Harden for a second, KD alone has a long way to go before he can make comments like this in my opinion.

  • chocolateNchicken

Yea Dwade! Let him watch you ride Lebron’s coattails to another ring!

  • pposse

why would KD wake up a sleeping giant? What good does it serve you or your team to give motivation to the second best player on the best team in the league? And for what? To defend James Harden?! This is classic ‘bulletin board’ material.

  • http://www.netstakeover.com/ JetSkiJohnson

I think he is too. Only thing D-wade does better is play defense.

  • MVP23100

Durant needs to shut his mouth and win something dwade has 3 rings and a finals MVP more then him and Harden combined put the work in before you start talking foolish

  • Miami Ballhogs AAU

Kobe doesn’t play D? Are you on crack?

  • shockexchange

Durant had better calm down before Black Ric Flair (wooo daaddyy!) “accidentally injures him” like he did Horry Jr, Lance and Ramon Sessions.

  • Stepfan Raiford

Of course James Harden > Dwade at this point in his career.

  • LP @ThisisEther

    not anymore

  • Mike Gilbert

Well nonetheless…I wish Harden were more of a two way player

  • AboveYou

    You’re serious?

  • KC

Thats ture and its possible harden could be better right now because of wades heatlh. Overall though Harden can’t carry wades gym bag. Wade has 3 rings and maybe about to get another. One of those rings at KD and Hardens expense with Harden coming up very very small. In this case it would have been best to keep his mouth shut. KD should watch his mouth when talking about greats in this league.

  • Interdico Scriptor

Wade, easy was better; but not anymore. Harden has (hopefully) yet to peak…

  • Interdico Scriptor

***is it just me or does KD totally regret the trade?***
I’ve had this out w/ DanPowers but IMO OKC has a ways to go to return to form. Their starters are solid; but that’s it. No bench means trouble. I know I know Dan; rotations in the PO’s are less maneuverable; but they still gotta get there.
    Clipps for the chip!

  • MightyMouse

Always thought KD was a bit siced.

  • Dfrance

Why are people talking about rings and Finals MVPs? What does that have to do with right now? And yes harden is a subpar defender but when was the last time Wade was an elite defensive player.

Y’all letting those highlight blocks go to your head. Wade is a gambler on D, rarely fights over picks and routinely jogs back on defense, especially after feeling like the refs missed a foul call.

If we’re talking today I’ll take Harden because I don’t know if Wade is gonna be Flash, or take 3-4 games off at a time.

  • C.M.G

We’ll settle this by seeing which one is rated higher in 2k14

  • Miami Ballhogs AAU

Absolutely! KD doesn’t defend… Harden doesn’t defend. Kobe gets it in! He says that he doesn’t want to take a charge and you guys jump off a cliff… that’s crazy to me. Don’t disrespect his game and how hard he works at both ends.

  • Miami Ballhogs AAU

Has anyone thought that this could be a great marketing strategy put together by Gatorade? Does it make sense or nah???

  • straight cake

The better player in 2013 right now is Harden because he is younger and can stay healthy, but legacy wise Wade wins out…oh and he also plays with Lebron James.

  • shockexchange

Black Ric Flair had a subpar playoffs this year. He’s been cryin’ about injuries, but when was the last time he’s been completely healthy? Nonetheless, the last time Harden and BRF were on the big stage together (2012 Finals), Harden disappeared. It’s like he flew too close to the sun and got his wings burned off. Until Harden can go head-to-head with BRF and outperform him on a regular basis, you can’t mention them in the same sentence.

  • straight cake

    ummm not always.

  • Feez_22

    LOOOL

  • Ryan Seavey

KD is already borderline better than Wade ever was… plus he has another top 5 scorer on his team as well. Wade was my favorite player a while back but now i can’t stand him. Yes, he’s a sure hall of famer. But all he does is complain & he’s a dirty player. He is very lucky he got those 2 extra rings, The Celtic’s should have closed them out for the second one in the east finals, as well as the pacers this last season. Russell Westbrook choked on a clutch play in a very important game 4 that would have tied it up 2-2, with game 5 (the eventual clincher) being the last game in Miami. Let’s say the Thunder pull that one out… they have a 3-2 lead with the last two(if two would even be necessary) in OKC… Never mind how the Spurs choked in the finals last season. I’m just sayin’… people don’t realize how lucky those 2 extra rings are, Bron won those for the Heat, not Wade. Even though he did step up his game a little come post season. And ESPN is always debating if MIami is the “greatest team ever”… that’s laughable. There’s no doubt Harden is the better player now. If Wade does not significantly improve his outside game & post game, he is in trouble. I mean he’s working out with Grover again though, so he should be fine.

  • Feez_22

? Kobe hasn’t played respectable defense for years now…

  • TR

Miami doesnt get either ring without Dwade. Nothing wrong with being second fiddle to the best player on the planet.

  • AboveYou

Overall as far as team accomplishments go, yes Wade’s resume looks better than Durant’s. However, Durant is far and away the better individual player and he will easily end up being ranked ahead of Wade All-time if he manages to get a couple of rings. Barring a disastrous injury, it’s Durant’s league when Lebron is done with it.

  • Ryan Seavey
  • Ryan Seavey

HAHAHAHA Kobe has not played D for the last 3 years dude… Dwight Howard even yelled at him for being bad on D this past year. All those All Defensive team awards were a joke. It’s like a popularity contest

  • Ryan Seavey

When he wants to lock up, he can, don’t get me wrong. But Kobe simply doesn’t put in the necessary defensive effort

  • straight cake

Maybe the beef has something to do with this lol:

  • Ryan Seavey

I don’t think you realize how hungry this makes KD as well… did you see his response? KD probably hasn’t left the gym since he saw that picture… lol. KD is gonna be a lot better next year, as well as Russ.

  • Ryan Seavey

Yes! someone who actually knows what they are talking about! thank you.

  • Ryan Seavey

clippers for another first round playoff exit lol

  • shockexchange

Black Ric Flair (i) locks up Rondo’s right arm, (ii) places his left foot behind Rondo’s left foot, (iii) slams Rondo to the floor with only his left arm to brace his fall and (iv) the refs didn’t even know it. “Woooooooooh Daaaaddddyyyy!”

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Spot on sir. Logical comments as always.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Black Ric Flair aka the nature boy aka the dirtiest player in the game! WOOOOOO!

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

And watching the Championship DVD from 2012.

  • Clos1881

Durants not lying dwade hasn’t been a top 10 player the last few years that sports illustrated list is possibly the worse list I’ve ever seen they must have used analytics lol

  • Ryan Seavey

Oh i agree with you, TR! My celtics did it with a total team effort & paul pierce playing out of his mind, and they got pretty lucky after the hawks & cavs scare. But without Shane Battier, Ray Allen, Mike Miller, And Chris Bosh, the heat would not have made it to the Finals. Yes, it’s impossible without a team effort. Jordan had plenty help. But he’s making it seem like Wade won that. Without all the players i mentioned, Wade doesn’t even make it to the finals those 2 years. Not to mention tony parker had a borderline tear in his hamstring, as well as a bum ankle. I’m saying Wade’s career was amazing. But he is expendable now. wade’s personal trainer, Tim Grover even has stated wade has lost it, but can still show flashes of his former self. Harden is in his early 20′s… he’s gonna be two times better than he is now in 4 years.

  • pposse

your right i don’t realize how this will get KD hungry. He took a shot at D Wade, albeit Wade’s bitter self took a shot right back at him. All I’m sayin is that KD interjecting his opinion on a stupid poll will help motivate Wade. The Heat just won 2 rings in a row, and three straight finals appearances, its tough to stay on you A Game with that type of success, to stay mentally sharp etc. Guys on the Heat are looking for doubters/ haters right now to motivate them and thats exactly what KD provided.

I see your point tho, with the way Wade responded..Wade will help fuel KD with those remarks.

Side note, Wade is salty, he has to keep reiterating to the world that he’s one of the best in the history of the game cause no one will give him those props willingly even tho it is true.

  • pposse

he works out with Grover every off season

  • shockexchange

straight cake has cracked the case. The interview where Durant calls out Black Ric Flair was very odd from the jump.
    (i) The interviewer mentions SI’s Top 10 and immediately asks Durant, “Who should be replaced.” The question was odd because Durant had not previously criticized SI’s Top 10 nor did he suggest that it needed changing. He also appeared prepared for the question.

(ii) Without hesitation, Durant responds, “Dwyane Wade!” His voice became elevated when he said it too, as if he had a problem with BRF.

The Shock Exchange loves a good ruse, but this one was poorly done by Gatorade cause Durant has always been reserved in the way he moves. straight cake is SE’s hero. *Welp*

  • 360

You dudes are nuts, Harden JUST had his first year in the NBA as “elite” player if you even want to go as far as calling it that. Until Bryant and Wade retire he will STAY as the 3rd best player at his respective position. Harden’s time will come but please let’s be real…

  • yourteamlost

Don’t tell DRose d!ckriders this. They believe Lebron alone is only slightly better than Rose right now.

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com/ Off The Backboard

Yeah really – people are letting history cloud judgement. Harden is easily the best shooting guard in the league right now given his age and skill set. Wade and Kobe are obviously great, but they are clearly on the downside of their careers. Bean had a great season last year, but the amount of energy and exhaustion that old man spent on keeping up those averages was a burden on his health as well.

Harden has yet to hit his prime, and with Howard on his team, he can only get better.

  • postitblogitquoteitknowittotee

right now is different than history, except for lebrons case where he is top 1 in league and top 1-3 all time already…hit me with yo best shoooooooooooooooooooooooot, mah g doe really hit me wid yo beeeeeeeeeeeest shoooooooooot mah g…shockexchange #darealest is the homey…laker fans aite…….why don’t ya hit me with yo beeeeeeeeeeeest shot… mah g be tripping aint caught me slipping Skip bayless spittin…first take in throne for the taken…LeBron top 1-3…harden tho better than wade right now det uh fect…

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com/ Off The Backboard

Wade is better than Harden from a career perspective, for sure. But I’m not sure how anyone can rank Wade ahead of Harden going into the 2013-2014 season with a straight face.

Wade is injury prone at this point in his career, and when you compare them statistically, the only edge that Wade has an advantage is FG%. Combine that with his overall age, and the fact that Harden’s scoring efficiency will increase with Howard on the team, and I’d pick Harden any day of the week.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Kevin Durant is so damn cock-eyed in that still

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it’s really hard to say Wade is better than Harden going into next season. He looked like a shell of himself in the playoffs.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

KD was pissed about that trade the day it happened. He never once expressed pleasure about it.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Jeremy Lamb is my favorite part of this. That poor kid has to be the reminder of the James Harden trade for the rest of his career.

  • bobby

hope wade is actually inspired and can stay healthy and play like he did during that winning streak last season…and this is just another reason why i can’t wait to see heat-thunder this year, cant wait fot the nba to come back

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    THIS

  • Caboose

I chalk that up to injury. I expect 22-6-5 out of Wade this next year and like 25-4-6 out of Harden. However, Wade will be more efficient and play better D. So it’s close, for sure.

  • Caboose

Ok listen, I get it. You’re young, you’re a Kobe fan, and you watch ESPN. But here man, we typically draw from a larger subset of facts to debate than your average talking head. Do we know more? Not necessarily. But we don’t fixate on what “appears” good or what “seems” to make sense. We typically look at stats and facts, not media spin.

TLDR: Kobe is a TERRIBLE defender now and you should look up his defensive stats.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

dude, Wade just had his most efficient season as a pro and didn’t do that.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

And the only reason Harden is less efficient at this point is because of TOV’s. Look at their TS and eFG%’s. Look at their offensive ratings. — Wade’s only a better defender. He’s no longer superior anywhere else.

  • Dfrance

I saw that you replied and thought I had a debate on my hands, got a little nervous,. lol

  • Saleem Rainman

    HA

  • Caboose

That’s fair. Perhaps I was hasty. The D still is a relatively large factor though

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    lmao haha

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah, i’m not really arguing with you as much as i am politely disagreeing. James Harden’s defense is so f*cking atrocious, it pains me to even *defend* him.

  • shockexchange

(Denny Green voice) “Clippers … they are who we thought they were!”

  • shockexchange

Horry Jr couldn’t guard a bear in a phone booth.

  • Caboose

Oh haha I know. Harden/Wade is very difficult right now since projecting what they’re gonna do next year is damn near impossible. Maybe Harden improves vastly on defense. Maybe Wade loses all of his defensive skill. Maybe Wade shows up with a 3 point shot. All of these are unlikely, but yeah, it’s pretty much impossible at this point

  • Cortez Mack

    Ummmm, no.

  • Fabian

Ummm.. Why are we talking about rings and MVPS? Because in the NBA thats what defines a player. So you want to talk about Jordan and Lebron but ignore all his accolades? What does that have to do with right now? OKC vs Heat your guy James Harden disappeared and was nowhere to be found.. What kind of performace is that… Wade has been playing with bad knees and still puts up great numbers close to Harden. Don’t forget who made the euro step popular (Wade and Ginobli) Don’t forget who is the best shot blocking SG to ever play the game (Wade)…. SG that blocks centers all the time… A guy that destroyed the Mavericks and brought the Heat back from a 2-0 deficit to win a chip and get finals mvp… You want to take a player today? As far as im concern i’ll take Wade who is there when you need him the most, who can explode for 40pts.. He did it against the Pacers and the Spurs. Highlights? Gambler on D? Harden is not that good of a defender buddy so he gambles too… Kevin Durant is the 2nd best player but he doesnt play defense either… it sucks. So what exactly are we talking about here

  • Interdico Scriptor

    every post eh?

  • Interdico Scriptor

    Enough already! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
On a side note. I would take RR over anyone from the Heat.

  • Interdico Scriptor

KD? Melo?? Horry Jn?? (@Shock lol)

  • Interdico Scriptor

Didn’t read Caboose. Curry is alright IMO

  • Interdico Scriptor

Yes I am, thank you v much

  • straight cake

Wade wont get any better at 3 point shooting at this point in his career, the same way Kobe wont get any better at defense. Harden has tremendous upsides considering he’s he the #1 option for the Houston Rockets.

  • Interdico Scriptor

thrice in the one article. Is this a meeeow scene from Supertroopers?

  • Interdico Scriptor

    thank you

  • straight cake

Harden’s defence will go up w/ big fella in the lane. i was gonna say Rent-a-center but that’s Shockesque

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    .
well, this is a comparison for just next season…..

    .
    well that was easy.

  • Interdico Scriptor

thine ruse is straining from overuse.

  • shockexchange

SE is only responding to other comments. You are right though, the commenters on here are way too Horry Jr-centric.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

ANd Durant does play defense. He’s actually a very solid defensive player. — oh, and he said the thing about Wade’s defense because Harden is so bad at defense, that defense is what separated them. At least last season. Other than that, Harden was the better player.
    .
But hey, let’s ignore all the facts and focus on their career and Wade’s standing as the best rim protecting SG of all-time. Like that has any barring on next season.

  • Interdico Scriptor

    *&*$&%^$#

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

nah, he’s atrocious. He was worse than Kobe last season, and Kobe had Howard. So let’s just say, at best, he’ll be what Kobe was last year.

  • Interdico Scriptor

Ahahaha ahaha aha ah a a.

  • K_HOLIDAY

I think Harden is a better offensive player (at this stage in their careers), but I still think I’d take D-Wade. Wade is battle tested and doesnt shy away from the big moments. He also knows what it takes to win. Harden has a little bit more to prove to me before I can put him before a guy like Wade.

  • Interdico Scriptor

20/20 hindsight says they took the wrong dude. Ibaka is the more replaceable
BUT I guess in a league lacking real bigs & guard heavy it was a call they had to make

  • Interdico Scriptor

Wondering where u were. I thought ya mum had grounded u

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

the thing they regret is not amnestying Kendrick Perkins. Dwight Howard going to LA scared the sh*t out of them. In reality, Dwight being a Laker is probably the chief reason Harden got traded instead of Perkins being amnestied.

  • Mvp23100

Thank you simple logic wtf has Harden done ever people have high expectations for next season let him perform and then talk because up to this point it’s an unfair comparison and KD should shut his trap and win something besides a scoring title

    What sport you watching?

  • Zabbah

Agreed. Harden is better than Wade right now. But who was better during their prime (and yes, I know James hasn’t yet hit his prime not unlike a pre-pubescent boy discovering strands of willowy hair in his balls and armpits)?
And bear in mind Wade had a season where his PER was top 15 ever in NBA history.

  • Harlem_World

Harden is better from range, but a healthy D Wade? Harden has more to prove before he can be considered better.

If healthy, D Wade has one of the better power guard post games in the league. He needs to get better from distance, but he’s never been a consistent 3 point threat. Anything 15 feet and in is pretty much a problem though. Harden is definitely on the rise, but he has to ‘earn his stripes’ on the defensive end before he can enter top 10 territory. Or be so completely dominant as a pure scorer people overlook his defensive flaws (what up Melo).

When talking about the present, age and health are more significant than accolades and legacies.

It’s the same reason why I’d take Aldridge over Garnett right now. No one is doubting that an in-prime Wade was the superior player, but 3 rings and 9 all-star appearances don’t directly translate into future wins. Health and youth on the other hand . . .

  • MUBWAR

5 years in Wade already had a ring while dropping 36ppg in the finals. show me KD don’t tweet

  • Sergio

Man, you are overexagerrating Kobes defense. I’ve watched almost all Lakers games last season, and, altough his defense has fallen, he is not a TERRIBLE defender. He is not disciplined and fails to rotate properly quite frequently. But he still is a great one on one defender and a good gambler.

  • Lil_Stratboy

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&p1=wadedw01&y1=2013&p2=hardeja01&y2=2013

Wade only scored less points. But he was still Flash at the end of the games. They couldn’t have gone on that 27 game win streak, without him on the floor. And Wade was at his best overall for the season during that streak.

  • SmoothHAHA

are u serious?! we’re talkin about a proven champion, period….like what has james harden ever done? besides win 6 man award, scoring wise is the only valid arguement in this case. I applaud KD for trying to help his man JH out

  • TR

I’m with you. Miami definitely won those rings as a collective unit. A lot of guys turned in big games, but Wade was HUGE in the last 3 or 4 games of the finals. Harden is better right now and the gap is going to continue to grow, but we’ve gotta give Wade props for what he did in the last few games of the finals with the injuries he had.

  • BugEyes

    I feel this greatly

  • Caboose

False. Give me some stats that back up what you’re saying. Cause I know that even with arguably the best team defender in the L behind him, Kobe posted some terrible defensive numbers. Also, good gambler?

  • pposse

i like Wade’s position on this. No where on that tweet does he make reference to his own skills and on whether they are diminishing or not. He says “make him respect your position in history…” – KD, the rest of the league and any of yall trying to pick James Harden ‘now’ over Wade will get it one day. I can’t wait for the day Durant turns 32 and its a young Andrew Wiggins or Jabrari Parker informing Durant that they don’t believe he is a top 10 player anymore.

Lets see how all the stans, the so called ‘objective’ stat man and KD himself responds to that one. Give Wade the respect he earned, keep his name out of your mouth!!

  • rande3p

you act like a hoop guy but u just bring up stats… there’s a reason coaches/players know stats don’t tell the story…

  • JibbsIsBallin

Harden has great potential and he is finally in a team where he can step in to a bigger role. Will he continue this with Howard in the line up? We will have to see. But to say that Harden should replace Wade in this just doesn’t add up to me. This younger generation of players seem to think that you can perform near decent in 1 season and you can start running your mouth.

  • Caboose

  • Da-Meat-Hook

It’s not just about winning rings. Paul Pierce and Manu Ginobili are proven champions as well. Similar to Wade, injuries and Father Time are preventing them from playing the way they used to on a consistent basis.

Facing an 82 game season and the likelihood of a physically taxing playoffs, I would take Harden over Wade, Pierce, Ginobili, and even Kobe at THIS POINT in their respective careers.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i think the safest bet is that Wade slips a little bit. And maybe not because he is literally slipping, but because LeBron has reached the point where he can win games on his own in the regular season without much need for help. Kind of like Jordan did after his first retirement. (not that much command though, Jordan would coast to 30-5-5 and a win, James can’t quite do that regularly). And Harden gets a little bump, since defenses have to respect Dwight a lot more than they did Asik — also, a full season of small ball Chandler Parsons at the 4 should open things up..

  • daBiz

    it’s an interesting comparison.

the numbers suggests that wade, when healthy and fully engaged, is still the better player. but obviously, he’s neither healthy nor fully engaged as often as he used to be.

worst, the eye test — right now — does him no favors. besides that one great finals game, i saw nothing, last season, that suggests he can still be the type of dominant, pick & roll ballhandler today’s offenses are built around. he couldn’t consistently split traps, turn the corner, or make proper passing reads. And of course, he couldn’t hit the 3.

meanwhile, harden is one of the most effective pick & roll handlers in the league — which says nothing of his defense.

but it’s not like wade is consistently great on that side. in fact, these days, he’s usually pretty lazy — correction: egregiously lazy — failing to beat screens or even get back many times.

that said, wade can turn on the defense when need be. and when he does, he’s elite. harden cannot claim the same.

and more, when wade was harden’s age, and had harden’s job of primary ballhandler, he was SIGNIFICANTLY better than harden.

  • Dfrance

They asked him about the top 10 players, for THIS UPCOMING SEASON. What don’t yall get about that? Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all time, but is he better than LeBron right now, if they were both playing this upcoming season? NO! It’s pretty simple.

  • shockexchange

Fair point, but it may be about “fit” with Black Ric Flair and Harden. For a young Rockets team, SE would prefer Harden. For a veteran Heat team capable of winning the chip, SE would prefer BRF. He knows that a healthy BRF is the Heat’s best chance at 2G. The last time Harden was in the Finals, he melted from the glare of the spotlight.

  • Dfrance

“So what exactly are we talking about here”

Perfect way to sum up your rant. KD was asked about the top 10 player list for next season. What Wade has done over his illustrious career, has NOTHING to do with how he will preform this upcoming season. No where did I say Harden has had the better career than Wade. And blocks are about as good an indication of great defense as steals. I guess you think Iverson was an elite defender too.

Anyway, to answer your question, we’re talking about this upcoming season.

  • straight cake

    Kobe doesn’t play defense either…lol

  • Feez_22

A lot of people here have made great points for and against harden replacing wade in a player’s top 10 ranking.

I will just pose this simple question. Who would you take on your team next yr? Wade or Harden?

I would take harden because for 2 years now, wade has incurred wear and tear injuries in the same knee which have heavily affected him at the tail end of the reg season and into the playoffs. These injuries made itto where he could only be counted on once every 2-3 games if that for a big vintage wade game. That’s just me but i would like to hear other points.

  • straight cake

Maybe when he guards point guards but bigger and stronger guys like Lebron, no way he plays defense.

  • straight cake

Harden for sure because he is younger, can stay healthy, and gives more production.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Wade’s health is a HUGE question mark, though. He hasn’t had a healthy playoff run since the Heat lost to the Mavs.

I would take a healthy Wade over Harden. I think the majority of people on this board would agree with that. The thing is, I don’t see Wade’s knees getting better.

  • BugEyes

kd is looking cocky for a shaky player without hos hubby Westbrook, kd looked like # 5 in the league

  • LakeShow

    The sky is blue…? lol

  • bike

Kind of a no brainer. Harden is arguably the best SG in the league right NOW. The older generation of SGs; Bryant, Wade, Ginobili, are beginning to wear down. Wade isn’t by any stretch washed up but it’s time for him and Kobe to begin to bask in the afterglow of awesome careers.

  • Dfrance

It’s only a no brainer if you understand the question. According to some of these dudes, MJ is the best shooting guard in the league right now.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

“Ask me if I’m tryna’ kick knowledge
Nah, I’m tryna’ kick the sh*t you need to learn though”

  • shockexchange

If Wade plays like he did last season then it’s a wrap for the Heat. SE’s big assumption is that if his knees haven’t gotten better then someone would have reported it by now.

  • don

isn’t this a gatorade commercial where they they dreamed of being dunked on by each other?

  • ThatManSam

There is going to a gatorade commercial over this.

  • shockexchange

Ballhogs, you called it. We’re not worthy.

  • straight cake

the Heat defense made Harden a no show because they saw what he did to the Spurs in the previous round and did not what that to happen to them in the finals.

  • straight cake

Only because he plays with LeBron is he able to stay efficient and play effective defense.

  • shockexchange

Exactly … and BRF put in work. When they went head-to-head on the L’s biggest stage, Harden flew too close to the sun and burned off his wings. He operates best during the regular season and in the early rounds of the playoffs.

Harden’s in a no-win situation here. Even if he did outplay Black Rick Flair, as soon as he falls to the fall BRF will knee him in the head. It’s either don’t show up or get %^$#(*^% ‘ed up. “WOOOOO!”

  • robb

    great comment

  • SheNoseEyeBall

Kd is jealous. it would of been better if wade sent a pic of his 3 rings

  • The Seed

1 and 2 half rings. Refs and Dallas gave one and Spurs Choked one away. Truth!!

  • The Seed

Wade career is over, last year it was up and down, if you are honest. His excuse is I am knee hurt. Who cares. Wade is not in the NBA top 10 anymore. Truth Hurts.

  • therichardkirby

    LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Mike Mendoza

Talk when you have more rings than DWADE. Until then, your “scoring titles” doesnt mean anything. Other than that, you are only bitching your sorry ass.

  • therichardkirby

Wade is kidding himself if he thinks he is going to have a better year than Harden. That said, everyone is entitled to their opinion. This whole situation is corny for a number of reasons:
    1. It’s ESPN rankings. Fab Melo is ranked, and he’s not even in the league at the moment.
    2. So DWade wrote down that message on a Post-It then twitpic’ed it. Did he mail Durant the original? Does DWade understand the point of Twitter?
    3. Durant worked out with Lebron after he lost in the Finals, and now he gives his opinion on his boy, James Harden’s ranking. Y’all are on different squads. Stop being so chummy!
    4. Going off that previous point- Durant coming for Wade while he is on the downswing of his career is CORNY! If he’s gonna throw jabs at anyone, it should be Lebron. That’s his competition at this point. If he’s tired of being second, why isn’t Durant going after the guy that’s in first place?! Going after the supporting cast. SMH Corny

  • Clos1881

Kobe is better than harden right now based off last season depending on how he comes back from the injury then harden then Paul George then maybe wade

  • Clos1881

Eli 2 rings Big Ben 2 rings Peyton 1 ring whose better?

    2012-13 season average:
    TS%: Harden
    Assist ratio: Wade
    RebR (off/def): Wade
    Usage: Harden
    PER: Wade

    Have to note:
    1. Houston lost its opening round and lost both head to heads with the heat.
    2. Harden has much less to work with. Heat have the obviously better team, where heat minus wade is still a much better team than houston without harden.
    3. includes arbitrary comparison of the 1st round of the playoffs to the thunder (thunder being bounced out the playoffs themselves) v. the nba finals so there’s a ton of other factors to compare (fatigue, lingering injuries by the time they reach finals, gravity of games, etc.)

Harden has a very slight statistical advantage in ppg but he is the best player on a much worse team (2012-13 rockets not 2013-14 rockets). Wade won and won by a far margin in comparison to the rockets. Wade also did so as the 2nd best player on the team, and while in that role still managed to put up very comparable numbers to the best player on an 8th seed team. In Harden’s defense they share very similar Usage rate for having very different roles on very different teams.

This is based on last year only not a body of work. In my opinion they have very similar stats. Harden scores more, but he did so on the 8th seeded team that was bounced out the first round. If Harden can duplicate his production with Howard and get to a top tier team then he might change my mind. Wade has very similar stats, wins much more, and showed up (while injured or not) all the way until the nba finals (Game 7: 23 and 10). I would still take Wade over Harden.

  • Mars

*News flash*: James Harden is a MONSTER. DWade *USED* to be a beast. Repeat James Harden is a MONSTER.

  • Gino Valsaint

Wade has better over numbers last season – with banged up knees. And he is by far a better defend. He was snubbed so many times on defensive team.

  • Sergio

Educate on why do you call Wade Black Ric Flair, please.

  • grgeblck

Kobe should have one or a few more rings less, if you want to count it that way.

  • Evan Boland

    You’ve been wondering about me?

  • NBAJunkie

I’ll take Harden all day every day. Wade has been on the fast decline for the past 3 years. If the Rockets trade for a decent PG and PF they’ll be in the finals this year against us.

  • Ricky N

    who is us?

  • NBAJunkie

Indiana =D We’re gettin better while Miami is growing old. I think Lebron returns home in his next free agency.

Some of you people are morons, how do you not understand the question is about this upcoming season?

  • LakeShow

    Uh… yeah.

    Did you not know that?

  • RedDragon10

    Uh… I did not

    Because he doesn’t.

  • LakeShow

    wow

  • LakeShow

    You don’t watch basketball then.

Sorry, but if you do not know that Durant is an above average defender… that’s on you. Wake up…

You need me to go get numbers or can you just open your eyes…?

  • RedDragon10

You’re hilarious buddy. Durant is an overrated defender. People like you correlate his ability to defend to his long winspan and slender figure making the mistake that he is a good defender. His ability to defend especially comes to question when he goes against people like Lebron or even Dirk. He’s an average defender at best. You can list your numbers or whatever but that won’t convince me. Even though Kobe is my favorite player, I think it’s audacious that he’s been on the all nba first defensive team 9 times because of media glorification. Not being bias or anything here, just my opinion.

the Heat need to trade wade for harden

This would be a great trade for the heat

Harden, Patrick Beverly for Wade and Chalmers in the long run the Heat

the only problem is Howard and Wade combo isn’t a good look for the Rockets.

I would throw in Bosh if the Rockets throw in Omer Asik

    Imagine this line up

Beverley, Harden, James, Omer Asik, Greg Oden
