Shaquille O’Neal to Join Sacramento Kings’ Ownership Group

Despite the mockery of the Sacramento Kings in the early 2000s, Shaq seems to have gotten a change of heart. The Kings revealed the former NBA big man will join the team’s new ownership group. Per the AP:

“The Kings announced Monday that Shaquille O’Neal has acquired a minority stake in the team under new owner Vivek Ranadive. The Kings will introduce the four-time NBA champion at a news conference Tuesday in Sacramento.

During the height of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, O’Neal fueled the rivalry with the Kings with his play on the court and his personality off of it.”

I thought Shaq already owned them from 1999-2002?

To be a part owner of a team.

  • ENDS

to be part owner of an NBA franchise. What you think the current owners of the Lakers Magic Heat Suns are just gonna say “Here Shaq, this is for you”. You gotta start somewhere probably no one else was interested in bringing him on

Shaq an Boogie sounds like a reality show. Watching how Shaq attempts to teach post moves while Boogie insists on shooting 3s and long 2s. Hilarious.

He only did this so that he could rename them the Sacramento queens

I think that was Tim Donaghy.

I wonder if he has more stake in the Kings than Jay Z’s stake in the Nets?

Good move for Sacramento. The more recognizable names associated with the franchise the better. It helps our image after the Maloof years. People can barely be bothered to know that Sacramento is the capital of california so anything to give us market share. He will talk up the team from time to time on TNT. Will be good. And he may be able to mentor Boogie. Although that could go horribly wrong.
