Sixers Sign Nerlens Noel And Michael Carter-Williams

The Sixers will begin their rebuilding process this season with two 2013 lottery picks as the centerpieces. Today, the team announced that they’ve got the duo under contract. From Sixers.com: “The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that they have signed rookies Nerlens Noel and Michael Carter-Williams. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.Carter-Williams (6-6, 185) was the 11th overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2013 NBA Draft.  As a sophomore at Syracuse last season, the 21-year-old averaged 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals en route to earning All-Big East Second Team honors.  Back in July, Carter-Williams averaged 14 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals for the Sixers in the Orlando Pro Summer League. Noel (6-11, 228) was originally the sixth overall pick by New Orleans in the 2013 NBA Draft.  The Sixers acquired his rights along with a 2014 first round pick from the Pelicans in exchange for Jrue Holiday and the 42nd pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.  As a freshman at Kentucky last season, the 19-year-old averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds and two steals while leading the NCAA with nearly four and a half blocks.  Noel was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year, SEC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-SEC. Carter-Williams and Noel were teammates in Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball during high school”

Sixers were my team but they lost me when they traded jrue, they are going to be horrible the next 5 years. all these GM’s with all there #’s and stats. ridiculousness

they were going nowhere with their current roster…they would be stuck in mediocrity for the next 5 years and beyond…They are going full-rebuild

    They’ve got Nerlens Noel
They will have their undoubtedly great draft pick (likely 1-3) after this season
They will have the Pelicans likely mediocre pick

They also have a few interesting pieces like Michael Carter Williams, Thad Young, and Evan Turner

Starting over and having a chance to rebuild like the Thunder did is better than constantly fighting for the 8th seed

A couple of very talented players, had the opportunity of playing against their BABC aau program and they already have some chemistry together. Once Nerlens takes his sweet time getting his knee healthy they will be in a good position. Jrue Holliday is a major loss, but this is a great start to a long rebuilding process.

wow, teams sign their first round draft picks. it really is offseason -.-

  • BugEyes

They were a great playoff team, than they got rid of iggy and jrue. Evan turner is a scrub, Thad don’t know what position he plays. Michael carter Williams will be a Shaun Livingston type player. and nerlens don’t have it either. they better get Wiggins or there rebuild will take a long time

  • Mike Gilbert

lol what you mean Nerlens don’t have it either

  • BugEyes

What is your outlook on him?
Kevin Durant frame can’t shoot has no post moves, all he can do is block dude

  • Mike Gilbert

It’s not just blacking…he is an excellent defender! I see him as a Tyson Chandler worst case…If he get’s any non hustle poinst on offense that’s a plus

  • BugEyes

I agree with that but if they don’t draft Wiggins they will be worst than the team with jrue.
    pg mcw
    sg someone other than Wiggins
    sf Evan turner
    pf Thad
    c nerlens
    25-57 at best

Respectfully disagree. He is not an excellent defender at this point. Noel’s defense is his shot blocking ability, a strength on which relies maybe too heavily. He does not have the bulk at this point to be an excellent defender at his position. He clearly is a good rebounder though and a good finisher around the basket. I wish the Wizards picked him to be honest

They are laying a solid foundation for years to come. Still believe they should’ve tried harder to keep Louis Williams though.

The Sixers could be contenders… for worst record in the NBA.

  • Mike Gilbert

that’s the point…then they get another great lottery pick and build up their team just like the Thunder did
