Celtics Coaches Want Gerald Wallace to Stop Criticizing His Teammates

Afer Gerald Wallace called out his team’s play lazy and selfish play last Sunday, the Boston Celtics had one of the best practices since training camp began. According to Wallace, Celtics coaches want him to go easy on his younger teammates (so that player cliques don’t get formed.) Per the Boston Herald and NESN: “I’m getting fussed at by the coaches every time,’ said Wallace. ‘They’re trying to tell me to relax and ease up. But the main thing is I want the guys to compete. If we lose all 82 games, but we lose them going down fighting and competing hard. I can live with that. I can’t live with losing and we didn’t compete, we didn’t give our best effort and we just gave the game away. I don’t want that for these guys and this team.’ Wallace, clearly bothered by these early growing pains by a largely young team, went on at length about what is needed. […] ‘I hope everybody got the message, you know what I’m saying?’ Brandon Bass told reporters. ‘And just as individuals come out and give maximum effort, and that way we look good as a group. I don’t think we should point the finger at anybody. I just think each individual should get the message from those guys moving forward. Hopefully, we stick together, because we don’t have any room for having groups and cliques of people that’s feeling a certain kind of way. We’ve got to kind of stick together.'”
