Delonte West to Reportedly Play in China

According to CSNNW, free agent guard Delonte West is taking his talents to China. West has reportedly inked a deal with Fujian Xunxing: “West, 30, will have the opportunity to latch onto an NBA team once the Chinese Basketball Association’s season concludes in February. The veteran was eager to prove to NBA teams that he was capable of taking a contending team to the next level. Though, no one was willing to offer a guaranteed deal to his liking. Playing in China will allow NBA personnel to observe his improvements on and off the court. During his eight-year NBA career, West has a career average of 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists. He also shoots the three at a 37 percent clip.”

I really hope he can sort out his off court issues because he can ball. Love Delonte’s game when he’s focused.

I don’t really understand why players hoping to get back to the NBA go to China. The standard is pretty bad compared to the leagues in Europe. I mean, perhaps the playing style in China is slightly more similar to the NBA than Europe is, but…A guy dropping 30 in one of the strong European leagues is more impressive than someone dropping 50 in China. I can understand people going to China for the money, definitely. But using it to try and get back to the L makes no sense to me. Not to mention that someone like Delonte might struggle with the huge culture shock of how different China is to the US.

I know I posted this exact recommendation when the initial story broke that Delonte wanted back in the L. For some reason China appears to be what the Euro league was in the late 80s and 90s. In the 90s most scouts centralized their efforts in Europe, thus you have the Gasols the Nowitzkis and etc. Remember china has a BILLION people, plus a major part of their “westernization” is a love for basketball. I believe NBA brass is trying to find the next Yao Ming, which would sky rocket profits via merchandising & TV contacts. NOT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY from him, but this element also has a hand in J.Lin’s meteoric rise to stardom. (respect tho b/c I know he put in a butt load of work to even get to the L). But the search for the next Yao puts a plethora of scouts in CHINA…and you gotta be seen

A combo guard that can actually play both positions with effectiveness. A two way player, one that can score and defend. A solid shooter, passer, and team player while on the court…

Yet no available NBA gigs. Sad, but part of the territory for troubled players.

china makes nba dudes feel like superstars and treat them like royalty. and pay them well. if these former nba guys really wanted some competition like they did in the 80′s and 90′s they would still go to europe. china has nothing on the euroleague

Delonte West deserves another shot in the league. We have seen players with alot of issues come back and make real contributions. I loved watching him play and he would be a real asset for a good team. Lets hope going to China will make his return a definite possibility!
