LeBron James Helped Design a $51,500 Watch

In his quest for a third straight NBA title, Miami Heat superstar LeBron James doesn’t want to talk about his impending free agency. LBJ does, however, have plenty to say about a new luxury watch he helped design. Per CNBC: “LeBron James, the NBA two-time champion and four-time most valued player, teamed up with Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet to design a $51,500 limited edition watch. ‘I always liked watches growing up. When the opportunity presented itself it was easy to say yes,’ James said in Geneva, Switzerland, at the watch factory in late August. The watch, called the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph, comes with an 18-karat pink gold case, black ceramic and diamond set push pieces, and a hand-stitched gray crocodile strap. Six-hundred of these watches went on sale at the end of September. ‘Anytime I do anything or have a partnership with anyone that has my name on it, I like to have a lot of personal trace in it,’ said James, whose signature is printed in blue on the sapphire crystal in the back of the watch. [...] Back on the court, he’s not thinking about his future yet, ‘Miami has been great to me. Who doesn’t like success,” said James. ‘If we stay hungry and motivated success will follow. There’s a process on trying to be great and you can’t cut corners doing it.’ Next summer, he could become the most sought after free agent if he opts out of his Miami contract. ‘Once I get to the point where I have to cross it I will handle it then.’ His ultimate goal? ‘I want to be the greatest of all time, that’s my personal goal. I have a lot of kids that look up to me as a role model. Every day that I step out of bed it’s a huge burden that I love.’”

Never really been a Piguet fan. I give LeBron credit; the watch fits in nicely with the rest of the Piguet lineup and it definitely speaks to his image, but I don’t particularly like it.

It tells LeBron when to shoot and when to pass.

    Cool Story Bro

they should’ve added the part where LJ said that his favorite watch growing up was a Ninja Turtles watch. Lol.

The Chronograph Michael Schumacher is the same model. The materials are different though. Schumacher’s has a titanium case and a a different bezel. And no diamonds. Not my style but Schumacher’s model looks nice.

Really people, go buy a Aqua Master and call it a day. You can get them for 5,000 or less and they look good. I have one and every-time I wear it, I get the compliments. Lebron wasted his time, designing a watch, really. LOL

Probably….. if I throw it at you whilst you run away…. go buy one and we’ll find out. ♧

What I want to know is what its it going to cost me to replace a battery?…. a kidney?

  • Caboose

Those super high end watches DEFINITELY don’t use batteries. It’s a very complex system wherein movement automatically winds the watch. It’s more reliable as a timepiece than electronics that way.

Some still rely on the good old hand-wind, but the trend is towards auto-winding.

(Psst, I really like high-end watches)

  • JL

That would be nothing! For 51,500 this thing winds when you move it. Or you can buy a watch winder to do it for you since if one’s buying a 51,500 watch one can probably afford it. What you should know is that this watch is less accurate than their battery powered brethren. People who like luxury watches though (like Caboose) don’t care. That’s not what it’s about LOL. Nor is it about the number of diamonds that are encrusted on the face.

Is this anything like the Citizen Eco-Drive?? My wife gave me one as a wedding gift and I went and sussed out the cost and this thing was $$$!….

  • Ugh

I’d have thought if you were spending $51,000 on a watch it’d have your name on it, not someone else’s.
