Nick Young Offended the Clippers Covered Up Laker Banners

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

To no one’s surprise, Doc Rivers’ controversial decision to have all Los Angeles Lakers championship banners covered up with posters of the Clippers during home games wasn’t well received in Lakerland.

The fans, naturally, completely flipped out and some Lakers voiced displeasure with the perceived slight. Nick Young jokingly called the move “disrespectful.”

Per the LA Daily News:

“We got to talk to Doc,” Young said Sunday at the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo. “He can’t have that. We have to do something about that … That’s a lot of pull ya’ll are giving Doc,” Young said. “He shouldn’t come and have that much pull. He should come and earn his keep.” Rivers did win an NBA title in 2008, though with the Boston Celtics against the Lakers. “But he didn’t win no title in L.A,” said Young, whose six-year NBA career also included a stint with the Clippers. “That’s where it’s at. Look at all these banners in here. You can’t shadow those up.”

“I understand they can’t be overshadowed too much by what’s happened in the past in the history of our franchise,” Lakers forward Pau Gasol said. “They have to worry about their own. They have a good group of players and have high expectations for the season. They have to worry about their business. Maybe that’s distracting to them so that’s fine as long as they stay there where they belong.”

In other news of the Lakers having their feelings hurt: Kobe Bryant recently changed his Twitter avatar, a reference to being motivated by poor player and team rankings from ESPN.

The Lakers have lowered expectations and plenty to prove heading into the 2013-’14 season. Whether that pushes them past mediocrity, however, is anyone’s guess.

In 1225, what does the 12 mean?

  • hashzz

Pau gave the proper response, classy.
“Maybe its distracting”….don’t know hy a chuckled at that, those gold bannrrs shine bright even under dimmed lights at “clipper” games. But there should be no problrm as long as they take it down when their done. HOFers on lakers wall only :-)

  • zyzy

ESPN ranked them 12th in the western conference. They’re on drugs btw.

  • Stepfan Raiford

Rivers did win an NBA title in 2008, though with the Boston Celtics against the Lakers. “But he didn’t win no title in L.A,” And your point is? Quick question,Nick Young. What have you won?

  • Will Lee

Nick young u got no history with anything involved.

  • JibbsIsBallin

More specifically, I think the guys that do the ranking at ESPN are on Meth.

  • LLC#12

Ahh cool thanks. That had been bugging me!

  • Allan

“But he didn’t win no title in L.A,” said Young
Nick young didn’t win/contribute to a title in LA either

There are a lot of “manufactured beefs” in the L – Knicks/Nets, Lakers/Clippers, Nets/Celtics. Heck, everybody’s beefin’ with the Heat. These teams tryna amp fans up so they can get that bread. The L is going to turn into the WWF soon.

  • Fitzy

except he’s from LA. So he has a personal history. No contributions from a basketball standpoint though, except maybe in the community lol.

  • WildCard

and 25 is kobe’s rank based on ESPN.

  • WildCard

Nick Young, you are adorable. aawww.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

are you sure it’s not kobe’s return date

  • Stepfan Raiford

    And it’s working lol

  • shockexchange

Just wait ’til the fans see Nick Young and Matt Barnes hanging out together and partying it up at the club. *Scratches head* “And the whole time we thought those guys hated each other … they’re actually friends!” Then the gig will be up.

  • Dfrance

Still trying to figure out what the headline means.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    franchise sg in the making

  • Stepfan Raiford

    hahaha

  • robb

yeah, but he’s not the one covering up banners.

  • Sérgio

If the League turns out into WWF, will the Black Ric Flair stop pretending that he doesn’t want to hurt other guys and smack them directly?

  • shockexchange

After reading how Harden is the best SG in the L, Black Ric Flair is somewhere fuming right now. Prediction: When the Heat plays the Rockets, the first time Harden falls to the floor BRF gon’ “accidentally” hit him with a knee drop to the head.

  • anon

Doc didn’t print and sew the banners himself and put them up overnight. He had to have gotten permission from higher ups for this idea. That means people on both the Clips and the Lakers side knew about it for weeks and were ok with it. This is some fake controversy.

  • jub_al

Not like Doc is asking them to cover it up 24/7.. only during Clipper home games right? If you want to show off your banners, then get your own arena… simple as that…

And yes, Doc DOES have pull because he’s the Coach, VP of Operations and another title that I can’t remember… the Clippers gave him that pull and co-tenants should literally just mind their own damn business…

  • JibbsIsBallin

    Must’ve been a case of the Monday’s. I believe it should’ve read..
Nick Young Offended that the Clippers Covered Up Laker Banners

  • shockexchange

    LOL. Stop.

  • bike

First, poor player and team rankings from ESPN. Now this. It’s one thing to kick someone when they are down but making them bite the curb is another.

  • danpowers

espn sucks and they are biased in basically everything they do, so that shouldnt really suprise you at all. the slam top 50 were a big letdown and negative suprise for most of us tho. try the sports illustrated top 100, maybe that suits you better.

  • danpowers

    lol

  • danpowers

“No contributions from a basketball standpoint though”
well, guess more than any of us posting in here though

  • Azfar Wattoo

I don’t see anything wrong with this. If it’s a Clippers home game, then why would the fans need to see Laker banners. It’s better for the Clippers franchise and its fans no matter how few they may be.

  • melvo

    He loves December

  • Fitzy

    true.

  • 3Chainz

    2 ture…

  • teq

SLAM! Nerlens Noel is out for the season and you guys have yet to post it. Get on it. This is top news.

  • Mariah

    Like that’s not realistic

  • kc

    nick young is a scrub

  • Shifty

What is funny is that nick young hasn’t even been a all star. Doc rivers has been a All Star so technically doc has achieved more not only as a coach but as a player then nick young.

  • Will Lee

i live on the earth too
