Russell Westbrook Out First 4-6 Weeks of Season Following Knee Surgery

Russell Westbrook’s return to the court has been delayed. The OKC Thunder announced today that the star point guard will miss the first four-to-six weeks of the NBA season, having undergone arthroscopic right knee surgery on Tuesday. Per the AP: “General Manager Sam Presti said Westbrook had knee swelling that would not subside, and the procedure was intended to solve the problem once and for all. He said doctors found that the source of swelling was due to a loose stitch and Westbrook’s meniscus has healed properly. The team said the procedure was successful. Russell had surgery in May to repair cartilage in his right knee after he was hurt in Game 2 of Oklahoma City’s first-round playoff series with Houston. He had had never missed a game in his five NBA seasons before the injury.”

They should be fine come playoff time.

  • RKJ92

Good! kid’s got game! putting him in a starting position for awhile will further develop him. Thunder are very lucky to keep obtaining so many talented players

  • spit hot fiyah

Has a player ever undergone surgery and the team/doctors later announced that the procedure was unsuccessful.

    Oh wow

not his fault but i cant wait til westbrook is back.

  • King David

so happy everyone is still getting to witness who the most valuable player on OKC’s roster really is !

  • bball knowledge

Durant is going to feel more of what Lebron went through in Cleveland next year at least for 4-6 more weeks.

  • Slick Ric

Not good, hopefully there no lingering issues for him.

  • Lenin-Gil Phillips

Unfortunately I don’t see him playing this season.

  • BugEyes

My fellow SLAMonians , donnatello will play before Christmas, he will be under durants Christmas tree

  • danpowers

this team will play under the radar this season, but come playoff time: POW! right in the kisser!

  • Basketball_iQ

They should’ve traded this dude while they had the chance,,,, Durant will never win anything with him on the same team.

  • Basketball_iQ

You’re right,,, I’m just mad you said it. Lol

  • The Seed

OKC will go under without Westbrook. KD nervous right now.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Lol KD still has: his name was a SERGE but his game was IBAKA (3 6 Mafia reference for all the MEMPHALIENS).

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Come on. KD has: his name was a serge but his game was ibaka on his squad.

Lebron had no one. no one. Mo williams is a servicable point guard but not at the level of player Pippen was or Shaq.

You need a robin who can do the job and eventually become a nightwing.

Pippen hooped when MJ left and SHAQ got a ring with the Heat.

Mo will is in the league ballin out in Portland yeah he still ballin out in Portland

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

don’t hurt the thunder fans bro

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    Christmas is evil

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

I know i know. Reggie jackson harden Durant Ibaka Perkins stronger team.

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

With this development I couldnt have RWestbrook inside the slam top 15 for next season… thoughts??

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

Relax people it’s only 4-6 weeks. Thunder will be fine.

  • idk

Donatello? Dude plays more like Raphael.

  • Mike Gilbert

Is this good or bad for OKC’s young guys? One would think that throwing Jeremy Lamb and Reggie Jackson even more minutes and responsibility could help them, right? Or at least help OKC decide if they need to make a trade or not

  • Mike Gilbert

Westbrook is an athletic God though…if he ever can improve as a facilitator and his efficiency it’s not crazy to say that OKC would have two top 5 maybe even top 3 players. James Harden doesn’t have that type of ceiling

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

imo, more playing time for young guys is never a bad thing. Now in the long run, if Westbrook’s absence costs them a home court series (as if there would be a way to really know) then it definitely hurts the team as a whole.

  • Shooting Guard

looks like those camos will have to wait

  • Dundler

And down goes my fantasy team

  • TTK

Looks like this season gon’ be Russell Westbrook’s “The Return”.
