Carmelo Anthony Tells Amar’e Stoudemire to Worry About Defense Not Shots

Hey, remember when Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire were brought together to form then next great duo in the Eastern Conference? Neither do we! Anyway, the two frustrated Knicks stars are now trading thinly-veiled shots through the media. Per the NY Post: “After each of the last three games — all losses — Stoudemire has stated a lack of ball movement has led to the Knicks’ 3-10 start as they enter Wednesday’s game against the Clippers at Staples Center. Of course, the implication is the culprits are Anthony and J.R. Smith, both of whom have reputations for playing too much isolation ball. Anthony instead claimed the Knicks have stunk out the court on the other end. ‘It’s just defense at this point,’ Anthony said. ‘The easiest thing to do is try to point fingers and trying to figure out what’s going on — [like] ball movement. At the end of the day it’s defense, we’re not guarding anybody.’ The lack of moving the ball has been a staple of Stoudemire’s rhetoric since Anthony got to town. And Anthony isn’t surprised fans think Stoudemire is pointing the finger at him. Iman Shumpert also talked about ‘the ball sticking’ after the Portland loss Monday. ‘It’s easy to do because at the end of the day, I have the ball most of the offense,’ Anthony said. ‘When you hear that, where it’s coming from, why is it being said, the real reason we’re not winning is we’re not defending. We’re not believing or trusting in one another on the defensive end.’ [...] Coach Mike Woodson wants them focusing on defense and also disputed Stoudemire’s share-the-ball thesis. ‘I’m not going there with you on that,’ Woodson said. ‘Melo’s having another solid season. Melo’s doing what he’s supposed to do. Everybody else has to do what they have to do. Nobody’s shooting the ball extremely well. But everybody’s getting shots.’”

It’s both. Stupid for Knicks to acquire jr smith and barg on the same team. Remember that fun team with linsanity

  • shockexchange

Apparently Melo hasn’t seen the new advanced stats data that shows when he and Bargnani are on the court, the Knicks are the worst defensive team in the L.In actuality, it’s Melo who needs to focus more on defense.

  • TriggaMan

Loved the team with Lin and Novak.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    i am dead

  • JML-G

they would be even worse with Lin aka most overrated player in last decade

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

    I don’t even… lol

  • Fat Lever

Melo passing the blame off is the first time he’s passed all season. Ironically, if Amar’e replies back, it’ll be the first time he gets defensive all year as well.

    So really, they’re good.

  • i_ball

Remember that fun team with Amare before Melo came to town and before Amare went down?

  • bike

Knicks + Dolan = NBA’s version of Modern Family.

  • alex80

    Melo talkin’ about “DEFENSE”, please.

  • Poon Man

LOL @ people blaming Melo for ball hogging. What a great idea, let’s make carmelo anthony pass the ball to his teamates WHO CANT FKIN SHOOT! do you idiots even watch basketball? id much rather have carmelo fading from three pointer than having shumpert take a wide open 3 at this point. Melo is playing his hardest on both ends of the floor, he is actually playing defense, and you retarded knicks fans are trying to run him out of the city. thats why new york wont have a championship team, because the fan base is a bunch of fantasy basketball phaggots

  • Jake

You must not remember Steve Francis, Rudy Gay, Joe Johnson, Stephon Marbury, Vin Baker, Glenn Robinson or Antoine Walker.

  • spit hot fiyah

the frustration level for this team is sky high. i’m just waiting for mwp to snap

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

So you’d rather have Melo take a fadeaway 3 rather than pass it to a wide open teammate all because you say they can’t shoot? I’m wondering if you’re actually watching these games. The problem isn’t their inability to knock down shots it’s the fluidity of their offense as a whole. Everyone is holding onto the ball too long not just Melo and we can’t discount Chandler’s absence as well.

  • anon

I think you just got a double-double there. Nice.

  • Allan

This is like JR Smith telling Melo to stop shooting too much

  • Swish

Ha ha basically everyone that made a slam cover in the 90s.

  • chyea

Anthony deflecting blame to someone other than himself? Not surprised. No team is winning anything of consequence with Melo leading.

  • Tarzan Cooper

funny how people hated on franchise, but love guys like irving

  • Ugh

If you think Melo needs to concentrate more on D than Amare, (a) you’ve never watched either of them play d, ever and (b)you don’t know D is played. Melo doesn’t bother to guard, Amare doesn’t even know how.

  • shockexchange

The entire Knicks team need focus more o defense, offense, rebounding, winning, et. al.

  • SayQue

Hey idiot. He is saying he doesn’t concentrate on defense AT ALL so yes he needs to work on it more than Amare who actually does play defense

  • beatdownlow

If any of you actually watch the Knicks games, you would see just how wrong Amar’e is. He gets the ball and doesn’t pass it either. When he gets it he either fumbles it out of bounds or gets blocked by a undersized forward. Out of a total of 35 post ups he’s passed out 3 times. Y’all giving Melo a hard time, when he really is the only one playing defense this season. Dude is playing his ass off, and is not getting rewarded by his teammates. Melo also had ample opportunities to throw Amar’e under the bus when the fans and media were on his head, but he stood by him. Amar’e comes into the game and Melo feeds him in the post all the time to try and get him going. Yelp, its clear as day that you all haven’t been watching this season.

  • SayQue

Antoine Walker was not overrated. When you can show me where Antoine Walker ever got any credit for anything he accomplished then maybe I will agree but until then you’re an idiot

  • Jerome

Irving went to the team that drafted him and isn’t a d!(k.

  • Jerome

Who will place higher in the lottery … Nets or Knicks? That is the only interesting thing left for either of these teams.

  • Chester

What’s the point in being the lottery when we don’t even have a lottery pick!

  • Chester

Man way to manipulate the title, he’s addressing the team as a whole he’s not even directing this at Ama’re specifically.

  • MasterSplinter

I would take Lin over ANY guard the knicks have right now….

  • bringbackthesonics

mwp elbowing james dolan in the head might improve team morale

  • Jake

Are you insane? He got an NBA Live cover(something usually reserved for stars) and shot 41% from the floor for his career, with a high of 43.5% He was a -8 points per 100 for his career and had a negative win share ratio.. He was voted to the All-Star team somehow. He was nothing more than a volume scorer that consistently showed up to camp overweight and was WAY overpaid. It’s a miracle that he lasted as long as he did. He was drafted ahead of Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Jermaine Oneal. What does he deserve credit for, sitting on the bench and getting a ring in Miami? Please….

  • MikeC.

I’m tired and not taking in sarcasm well tonight. Are you saying that Amare actually plays defense? I hope your comment was so drenched in sarcasm that it went over my head. Please. And I say this as a Knick fan. Orange and Blue since 92.

  • MikeC.

Not just team morale. Fan base morale would spike mad high!

  • MikeC.

To lament the throwaway of a pick in a loaded draft. What else do we have left? I’m just clinging to the idea that a 35 win team might have a shot at home court in the putrid East.

  • phil

    hi chester

  • Tyler Jones

Melo is averaging 10 rebounds a game

  • Tyler Jones

Hey retard.. Melo is playing D this year. Watch knicks games for a change

  • Tyler Jones

yeah he’s playing it this year kid. Learn basketball

  • Tyler Jones

well melo is winning get over it

  • Tyler Jones

Yeah that was before amare got hurt.. nice try

  • Tyler Jones

    You slow idiot

  • spit hot fiyah

    winning what?

  • Tyler Jones

A championship but not with this knicks team since nobody helping him by making shots. He’s averaging 26 and 10 .He doing his job

  • spit hot fiyah

so he is hypothetically winning under the right circumstances. we can say that for every player

  • Tyler Jones

Or like KD telling westbrook to stop shooting so much

  • Ugh
  • Ugh

  • Ugh

Did someone post this thread in the OMG KNICKS ARE AMEZING group on Facebook so you could ride in here and destroy us with your witty repartee and dazzling understanding of the game?

  • Ugh

    …aaaand again!

  • Boonie K.

Wow, so Woodson is not a big fan of “sharing the ball” probably why he will have to share or give his position to someone else this season. Sucking up to management can only get you so far. Melo is no winner, no winner crank 25 shots for 25 points.

  • Marcuz

Kobe Bryant disagrees with you on your last statement….

  • richardh

Everyone seems to be missing the solution here.

  • KnicksFan

Please trade Melo!!! Knicks will never win with him. He is an all-star, not a superstar. He can make buckets, but no D and not a “team” player.

  • Guest

    we talkin about passing…passing…
how am i gonna make my team better by passing?!

  • Lucas

Greatest comment I have ever read on here!

  • Bandwagonfan

Look guys, i watched latest ny game and i see the guy who can score well is melo and bargnani. The rest of them is not that good at offense especially amare. Pls, he got blocked so easily by jordan and even travelling and 3 second violation. And melo played some defense. But yeah hes playing way too much minutes right now.

  • Fat Lever

    U mad, bro? Hahaha

  • Tyler Jones

I can’t be mad when I’m telling facts bro haha

  • Tyler Jones

You ask why he playing D ? Maybe because he wanna win duhh

  • Tyler Jones

Ayee you fake knciks fan.. Melo is a superstar .. Superstars win gold medals and scoring titles. Which Melo has. His defense is improved. You should be mad at Jr smith , and felton for not making shots. They have no guard play.. Melo is averaging 26 points and 9 rebounds. He is a team player unlike durant

  • Tyler Jones

You don’t know basketball .KD isn’t a winner . Melo is

  • AndyK415

Melo is not a team player. He takes nearly 25 shots a game and gets 1 assist.

  • Tyler Jones

Did you not see today game ? He had 3 assist and 10 assist in his previous 2 games together. He takes 20 shots a game and he shot 62 percent. He’s averaging 26.0 points , 9.0 rebounds and 3 assist. And he had 4 blocks today . Learn basketball. KD isn’t a team player who take 25 shots

  • AndyK415

No but I heard they lost yet again…to the Wizards. Superstars don’t suck in the garbage Eastern Conference. Superstars sure as hell don’t let their team be down by 45 points to the Boston Celtics. Instead, superstars make their team and teammates better. They become vocal leaders of the team and lead by example on the defensive end and by facilitating (Melo on the other hand claims that they don’t have any veteran leaders on the team…then what the hell are you Melo? And he continues to play isolation basketball). Please let me know when Carmelo has any relevant success in the playoffs.
