Dwight Howard Fined $25,000 for Throwing Ball at a Fan

The NBA hit Dwight Howard with a $25K fine for tossing the ball at a heckler in the stands. Nothing entirely surprising here. From the press release: “Houston Rockets forward/center Dwight Howard has been fined $25,000 for throwing the ball into the stands with 2:54 remaining in the fourth quarter of Houston’s 123-120 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at American Airlines Center, it was announced Thursday by Rod Thorn, President, Basketball Operations.”

Definitely deserved a suspension. Interacting with fans in a threatening way (yeah, he just lobbed a ball, but it was directed at a SPECIFIC person) is a REALLY bad precedent if the only penalty is $25k.

    you are joking right?

  • Caboose

No, throwing the ball in the stands at a fan is such a not-ok thing to do.

you are a baby if you think this is a big deal. there is no threat, or malice involved at all, fining him 25 grand is more than a substantial punishment for what happened.

How is there no malice? Sure, he just lobbed the thing, but why would he throw the ball at a fan? It was most certainly NOT a playful thing.

he tossed it. he didn’t “throw” it. if that ball hit the fan right in the face, what would have happened? nothing? absolutely nothing, the fan would have been perfectly fine.
    .
and the said fan, also being a human being, is excused for yelling whatever it was that made dwight react that way? Dwight should have to pay what that guy probably makes in half of a year, because he tossed a ball at him? fine. but you want him suspended? which means he wouldn’t get paid, and would lose something like $185,000.000, you think that makes sense? while drunk jackass in the crowd comes back next week, only to do the same sh*t to someone else?

So we should hold fans and players to the exact same standards? Is that the case you’re arguing for?

no, did Dwight turn around and cuss the guy out?
    .
    no?
    .
then how is that even a relevant response?

he flicked the ball. wrong thing to do but no big deal. if he threw it full force it would have been another thing.
