Mike Woodson To JR Smith: ‘No Team Is Going To Want To Deal With You’

Only two weeks into the ’13-14 season, JR Smith has already served a five-game suspension for a drug violation and been fined $25,000 for lashing out at Brandon Jennings on Twitter. Coach Mike Woodson, who has continually tried to counsel Smith, met with his 10-year vet on Thursday to tell him that if he doesn’t change his behavior “eventually no team is going to want to deal with you.” Via Newsday:

Mike Woodson was “not happy” with JR Smith for his tweets directed at Pistons guard Brandon Jennings, and he said that if Smith keeps putting himself in these positions, “eventually no team is going to want to deal with you.”

The NBA was unhappy with Smith, too, fining him $25,000 on Friday “for directing hostile and inappropriate language to another player via his Twitter account, in violation of NBA rules.” Smith was fined the same amount two seasons ago for posting an inappropriate photo of a woman on Twitter.

In this case, Smith, who was suspended the first five games of the season for failing a drug test, was defending his brother Chris after Jennings questioned whether he belongs in the NBA in a tweet that he later removed. Smith seemed to threaten Jennings in one tweet.

“I was not happy about that and that’s why we had a behind-the-door meeting with he and Chris [on Thursday] because it’s ridiculous,” Woodson said during his weekly radio interview on ESPN New York Friday. “There’s got to come a time where you stop putting yourself in that position. It’s going to come a time when you keep doing it, eventually no team is going to want to deal with you. You got to learn from it. Those are the things where I’m trying to get this young man to.”

The Knicks just signed the rest of JR Smith’s immediate family

  • Caboose

Dude is so lucky that he happens to be 6’6 and naturally gifted at basketball. He hasn’t improved since high school.

JR Smith is overrated and should be out of the league for all ths stupid shit he’s done….He isn’t worth the money they are paying for him and his brother…Knicks will never be a serious contender as long as one of their main pieces is an unstable jackass.

“A pretty respectable response from the younger Smith. Big bro wasn’t finished, though.” – I think you mistook the part after this. JR retweeted – “No war! But aint no #peace RT @…..” – its just a reply basically to what his brother said. So calm down son and EASE UP ON THE CAPSLOCK.
    #unschooledmyself?

Tbh JR smith’s salary is FAR below the market value (I’ve read this somewhere before). He’s actually paid low compared to most starters out there. He even opted to extend his contract knowing this because of his desire to stay at the knicks with the current team. I think you mean the knicks will never be a serious contender paying for a contract like stoudemire’s whilst he plays 10 minutes a game.
