New York Knicks to Reportedly Recruit Kevin Love in 2015

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

While most observers are trained, slack-jawed, on the ongoing trainwreck that is the 2013-14 Knicks, the New York front-office is said to be preparing for the future.

Or, perhaps more aptly, fantasizing about it.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the Knicks have already begun to devise plans to lure Kevin Love to Gotham when he becomes a free agent two summers from now:

Almost assuredly, Love will exercise his early termination option in two years and take a strong look at where the free-agent landscape stands with the T’wolves. He could re-sign a longer, richer deal with Minnesota, or chase big-market platforms in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and perhaps elsewhere. The Knicks are buried in salary-cap hell through 2014, awaiting Amar’e Stoudemire ($23.4 million), Tyson Chandler ($14.3 million) and Andrea Bargnani ($12 million) to expire. The Knicks are sold on Love in 2015, sources say, and they’ve already begun devising a strategy to lure him when the time comes.

The possibility of leaving the Knicks for the Los Angeles Lakers will be Carmelo Anthony’s leverage until it no longer is, but as one source with knowledge of the process says: “Do you think ‘Melo wants to be known for not winning titles in New York and L.A.?”

Melo has let it be known that he plans to recruit other superstars to help him put an end to the Knicks’ 40-year championship drought. He has few other options, since the franchise seems to be right back where it started when Anthony came to town in 2011.

Can Kevin Love be convinced that Manhattan is the place for him going forward? Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks would certainly hope so.

    The Knicks are screwed.

    Aren’t they all?

  • the_unknown

Who isn’t gonna recruit Kevin Love in 2015?

  • shockexchange

In the Shock Exchange’s opinion, the Knicks talking about future free agents is as disrespectful as Melo looking forward to becoming a free agent.

I believe in Flip. He will put a good enough team around Kevin and give him the max so that he will stay……and if he doesn’t, there is no way he is going to the Knicks.

  • danpowers

ah maybe thats why they gave him a couple of open fast break layups that made him laugh while getting back to defense? make the big fella happy

  • jimmer

for real. this isn’t a story

Another big market delusion. Everyone thinks these big market teams can get the big names. It’s media created and other teams seem to get shafted. People already believes Thunder are on the outs with their superstars already if they don’t get better. Then on the flipside these lousy big market teams and their equally pathetic teams (lakers / knicks) has some dream they WILL get these guys. It’s not cute anymore. Arrogance really plays a part in this. F the Knicks and F the Lakers. I hope all those teams suck!

I would love it if free agency stories were just banned right up until a contract was actually signed.
    So much better

I’m not gonna get my hopes up.

When would they start to develop their own guys rather than doing big talks about recruiting every damn year?

  • JibbsIsBallin

media wouldn’t have much to talk about.

  • melvo

How about they just focus on the first two seasons before they start planning on the third

  • melvo

I love the passion, and completely agree with you, but star players really do want to play in big markets. Most of the time, that is. Generally, big market teams are more willing to pay the luxury tax, so they can add more quality players and sign bigger contracts. The media definitely fan the flame though. But a lot of it really has to do with these guys wanting better chances of winning a chip on more talented squads. I hope K Love stays on the T-Wolves though.

Knicks will never win a title as long as Dolan is running things.

    exactly what I was thinking….

I rolled my eyes so hard that I bruised my face. C’mon Slam, stick to hyping highschoolers and ranking dunks!

Melo to recruit superstars in NYC? No way, along with Rose, PG24, CP3 thay all have the same curse, they will not win a ring ’til Lebron stops playing basketball. Just like happened to Ewing, Barkley, Malone when His Airness was playing..
I’m not a Lebron fan, not at all, but if he continues playing this way there’s no chances for anyone out there to win a ring.

SPREAD LOVE is an LA boy. If he doesn’t stay with MINNY, he’s going to be a LAKER. Kupchack will make it happen if Flip doesn’t first.
