Paul George Says Chicago Bulls’ Success a Thing of the Past

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

One could argue that Wednesday night’s matchup in Indiana meant a lot more to the Pacers than it did the Chicago Bulls.

Derrick Rose recently dismissed talk of any kind of rivalry between the two teams, which seemed to fire Indy up.

After Paul George led the way in a dominant 97-80 win, the star forward now claims that Chicago is in the 5-0 Pacers’ rearview mirror.

Per NBA.com:

By holding the Bulls to 80 points on 35.6 percent shooting, the Pacers tightened their defensive screws to 84.4 points allowed and a 37.5 percent defensive field-goal percentage. They have won three straight at home against the Bulls and four of the past five meetings overall.

“We want to step away from that shadow as the ‘little brothers’ of this division,” George said. “Their success is the Michael Jordan era. This is a new age, this is a new team. It’s ours till they take it.”

The Pacers have come out of the gate firing on all cylinders, and have many reasons to feel confident. (The NBA championship talk has already begun in Indiana.)

It’s very early on in the season; Indiana looks a lot better than Chicago does at this point. Both teams, however, still have plenty of time to prove who are the true kings of the Central Division.

5 games into the season and you see this guy holding his follow through after 3s and thumping his chest after fouls.

It’s a marathon man. There are no prizes for coming out of the gate fast. Anything can happen.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Nick Tha Quick

Did anyone else read this and see Ppose reading this, spilling his drink and going, “Oh hell naw!”

  • Above_You

    Ahahahaha! Hell yea I did.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

I thought I was the only one noticing that. It’s like he’s already acting like a douche and he hasn’t even won anything yet. That whole team screams arrogant.

  • shockexchange

Pposse’s prolly on his way to Best Buy looking for a new computer. He cracked his computer screen after reading this.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

If by “spilling his drink” you mean crumpling up his Kool Aid Jammer packet, then yes, that’s exactly what I pictured!

  • CommsFC

    CommsFC thinks #HeatNation 3peat

  • LakeShow

    Their self made. Their proud.

    Hibbert
    George
    Lance
    Hill
    Granger
    West

None of those guys are suppose to be as good as they are/were.

The Pacers don’t have an esteemed heritage like the Bulls/Lakers/Celtics.

They are building their history and team name now.

    Personally, I love it.

  • Jeremy de Sa

Love this dude. The Pacers are tough and I’m on the bandwagon.

  • ThaWindy

Apparently the Pacers take winning the division very seriously. I only assume thats what he’s referring to.

  • LakeShow

He looks fully poised and prepared for the marathon.

I recall plenty of early season chest bumping by plenty of the greats.

  • Jeremy de Sa

Their rise hasn’t been mercurial to you? They are stacked and they know how good they can be.. it’s not LeBron dancing at mid court which I consider pretty douchey

  • robb

    So do I

  • robb

I think they are proud, arrogant? I’m not sure. I like their attitude, they work hard, play hard and have become a very good team.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

I’m not saying they aren’t good or shouldn’t believe in themselves but arrogance is whole different story. I don’t like the dancing either so you just gave me another example.

  • dotdotdot

    *They’re, as in ‘they are’.

Sorry, but it is really shocking to me how fully grown adults still don’t know how to use their, there, and they’re.

  • bike

Sure, it’s early in the season but they have earned some bragging rights. Obvious these Pacer dudes put in some serious work in the offseason.
    .
God, I just pray this is a relatively injury-free season. The playoffs could be epic…like in a biblical sense.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

I think they are a little bit of both to be honest.

  • Max

And you need both things to be succesfull at basketball.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

I’m all for being proud of what you’ve done so far. Personally I just don’t like the extra talking that is done whether it come from them or any other team. That’s just me so I’m not saying it’s wrong or right just my take on it.

  • Enigmatic

They’ve been acting like this since Frank Vogel was the interim coach. Not sure what he tells them or what, maybe he pumped them up to be top dogs in the division from day one (as if being division champs = NBA champs), but I’ve noticed every time they beat the Bulls since Vogel has been coach they’ve acted like they just won a title. Annoying, imo.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Do you? I mean being proud of what your team has accomplished or accomplishing seems much different from throwing another team in your statement saying “it’s ours till they take it”. Last time I checked the Pacers didn’t win the title.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

    My point exactly.

  • pposse

PG is gained too much swagger this past yr, he is becoming an idiot. Sure yall won by 17 but before there was 7:00 minutes left in the game, no one held a double digit lead and both teams came back and took leads. This fool needs to slow down.

  • Max

“It’s ours till they take it” Clearly is about the division which they just won last year.

  • pposse

    lance stephenson is a crackhead

  • Enigmatic

All that being said, however, George is right about some things. They are the division champs until Chicago takes it back. And as of right now, November 7th, 2013 at 2:08 PM Central Standard Time, they are certainly the better team.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

I know what he meant but it’s just to me if your main goal is to win a title and you haven’t done it yet then fighting over that title is irrelevant. But like I said that’s just me.

  • TV63

I thought it was premature to boast that just yet BUT I think he has something there. Hate the offseason moves the Bulls made and Rose is a lot of hype.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Lol I don’t disagree with that but if my main focus is the Lary O’Brien I wouldn’t worry about making statements regarding the division title.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

C’mon man I agree with you that George needs to pump his breaks but that was low.

  • hubristick

It’s really shocking to me that the bored grammar police still smugly grade comment board posts to pathetically inflate there egos.

(Through your a bone their. Twice now. That ought to keep ewe(oops!) busy)

  • pposse

i dont know if he really does crack..but i dont like the way he plays at all. He is a chucker and he flops. The crackhead part was exaggeration/sarcasm. He reminds me a lot of Jamal Crawford back in the early 00s. And I cannot stand floppers, the refs clearly saw what he did, they should have reversed the flagrant and called a technical on him for flopping. Instead of the leading swelling to 12 plus possession the bulls could have cut it to 9 and had possession.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

    …your move, dotdotdot

  • dotdotdot

You seem upset? Do you need a hug?

  • Enigmatic

I feel you. We’re in agreement. They just need to remember the Bulls could take it back this season if they get their sh*t together soon.

  • LakeShow

This is how I picture the playoffs:

  • TR

The Pacers are talking like they’ve done something. This is an unproven squad that needs to fall back.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Agreed after one meeting I’m not going to come to a conclusion.

  • Cortez Mack

Chicago’s coaching staff needs to ship out this new offense they are running. It is horrid.

  • pposse

    100% agree

  • LakeShow

Whether or not Lance is on crack is actually irrelevant.

This “crack head” is playing better than your former MVP.

That sounds like a comment from a person that is upset and not being rational. If Chicago had Lance they would LOVE him. He’s a great spark plug and can do a little bit of everything.

He’s one of the most improved players in the L and is averaging: 16-6-5 on 13 FG’s.

  • SWIFTSLICK7

LOL @ the Pacers acting like they’ve done anything since the 2000 Finals. They had the lead in Game 1 vs MIA and choked it away. They had the series on Miami and got blown out in Game 7 by 23 points. Paper Champion.

  • Enigmatic

Beyond this season though, we’ll see. So many questions for Chicago.

Will the Bulls trade Deng or lose him outright? Maybe he’ll take less money to play for a champio-bwahaha never mind, that only happens on NBA 2k14 and on the Spurs.
Will they finally amnesty Boozer before next season?

Will Nikola Mirotic finally come next season and be good?
Who will they sign in the next few upcoming offseasons?
Will the Bulls get their Bobcats pick in this solid upcoming draft?
    Will Jimmy Butler keep improving?
Will Derrick Rose get back to elite level?
Will Coach Thibs stop overplaying players?

  • pposse

please just stop talking numbers until atleast the beginning of December. They have barely completed 6% of their season.

  • LakeShow

Do you even comment here? You really had to create an account to tell me the appropriateness of “their” and “they’re”??

    F*ck off c*nt.

  • pposse

The Bulls have definately had issues at the start of this season – these issues are coming from not respecting your opponents. Show your opponents some respect then whoop on them! Plus Deng and Hinrich need to go, either that or we need a better PF than Boozer even tho Boozer imo is easily an above average PF in the league. We need someone who does what Boozer does, but better.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

I think Luol’s future depends on his production. If he is producing this year he’ll finish the season as a Bull and probably leave during the summer. If not, he’ll be traded. Surprisingly popcorn muscles has been playing pretty well the few games I’ve watched. One thing is for sure and that’s the Bulls’ front office needs to realize that in order to get better you sometimes I have to make changes and stop being cheap.

  • LakeShow

    Thank you…

  • LakeShow

I don’t like the extra talking either. I just like them so i’m okay with it. It’s called bias lol.

  • Enigmatic

LMAO I had forgotten about “popcorn muscles”. F*ckin’ Eboy….yeah, owner Jerry Resindorf bases the success of the team on not having to pay the luxury tax SMH…I don’t see that changing unless he sells the franchise to someone else that cares more about winning.

  • LakeShow

You called a man that is playing better than your MVP a “girl” and a “crack head.”

I think it is you who could use a little context.

  • Above_You

That’s all speculation. The one thing we KNOW is that the Bulls have been outplayed so far, and with or without respect for their opponents, they are going to continue to lose unless they start playing better.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Lol I figured that’s why I didn’t bother bringing it up.

  • pposse

    lol oh yeah i forgot..

  • SWIFTSLICK7

I’m actually more concerned with their lack of defensive play as a team. Boozer’s scoring has been fine but last night he was a disaster. Hinrich is not the same player he was. Everyone knew that when he was signed, yet some times management is stuck on past glories. Deng has been terrible to start this season and that shouldn’t be getting overlooked. Even when Derrick had bad games before Deng could be counted on (during the regular season). But at the moment his FG% is trash (38%) and he’s only hit 1 out of 15 from behind the arc.

  • Max

    Exactly how I’m thinking.

  • pposse

and Mike Dunleavy has been a complete disaster up to this point.

  • pposse

and actually if Lance was on crack it would be completely relevant. He would be disobeying the drug policy in the NBA, get your facts straight homie.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

That name is legendary lol that will be their demise unless he changes his mentality which I highly doubt he will.

  • bike

  • Grammar Police

    “threw” maybe?

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Favorite scene in that movie lol

  • Cortez Mack

Deng is a enigma. You love him as a teammate but he is not nearly good enough. He is too slow and nonathletic to be the second option. He cannot beat anyone off of the dribble or even help rebound (in traffic) at a high clip. And his jumpshot is not wet. He is an upscale role player. And all of that applies to Boozer as well.

Too many things have to go perfect for the Bulls to win. Everyone has to be clicking. That is a risky bet.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Those were his choices and he made his decision good for me. Just merely stating my opinion.

  • Foreveryoungx

    Built not bought

  • LakeShow

Rose had performance enhancing tape on his neck, so they are even.

  • pposse

Right. No matter what they do, its hard to say that they are reliable.

I wish Deng and Boozer were more confrontational, it gives more things for the respective defenders to think about. “should i pull on boozers shorts when we go up for this rebound or will he elbow me the next time i get the ball on offense?” “should i elbow Deng in the ribs when i chase him around this screen? or will Deng try and undercut me the next time i jump in the air?” -

  • pposse

wrong! the league reviewed the tape and has since allowed it. In fact, that tape was probably the reason we lost. D Rose’s neck vertebrae’s may have been out of alignment.

  • pposse

would you take David West over Boozer? btw David West was the key in that victory last night. He swiped the ball from D Rose twice and Kirk once all of those plays were game changers.

  • Sizzle

Would have loved to see Paul George talk about the Pacers past successes in the last decade…Oh wait

  • LakeShow

I thought maybe you’d be able to joke around a little bit… [sigh]

  • danpowers

but they dont play arrogant. they take every team serious and go at them, regardless who is their opponent. you wanna see a truly arrogant team? go watch my knicks, going out there with a body language and defensive habbits like “i dont have to give 100% to beat these scrubs” n then being suprised why its not enough to give the effort at the end of a game. its hard to imagine to see any of this loser attitude ever of this pacers team. when they will lose games this season, count on them to go down fighting. there isnt really anything not to like about them right now.

  • danpowers

    “Annoying, imo”

    just for bulls fans lol

  • TriggaMan

He got that fire, like the barrel of my snub

  • Cameron

Me personally, I like the Pacers and what they’re doing. The trash talking and the cockiness is great. They didn’t sign any big name free agents or make any big trades. They made there team through the draft so I’d be proud.. And for the Lance Stephenson flop comments you must not watch LeBrons dumbazz much.

  • LakeShow

    Well said DP.

Every team needs some haters though so I like that the SLAMily is “choosing sides” haha, makes things interesting.

  • RunMoreThanYourMouth

Too early in his career and too early in the season for him to be saying stuff like this. D-Rose is struggling coming back from the surgery, but don’t disrespect what he’s accomplished so far in his career…it’s more than what Paul George has done. The core of this Bulls team has been just as far as the core of the Pacers…Eastern Conference Finals. If we’re being completely honest, D-Rose could say the Pacers success was with Reggie Miller, Chris Mullin and the Davis boys (he obviously won’t).

This may be a little bit of hurt feelings after Rose said there was no rivalry between them. Pacers won last night, George’s head got a little too big after a regular season win at the beginning of November with Rose still trying to get his rhythm back. Paul should take a step back, maybe be a little quiet and continue to EARN the respect and praise that he’s starting to get now that he’s on his way to becoming a star…but D-Rose is already there. It’s not earned with quotes after regular season games. It’s earned by playing like a star for a full season and in the playoffs. Rose played like a star during his first playoff series in his career. George has some more work to do.

(I say all of this while holding the opinion that the Bulls can’t beat the Pacers in a series unless they pull off a trade and get a 2 guard to help Rose with the offense…and Miami can’t beat them either unless Wade stays healthy).

  • cgeorge22

I think the bulls need to really step it up, but I also think that Paul George has turned into a real douche because of his new superstar status. That’s what I appreciate about d rose. He was the MVP but you never saw him saying shit like this.

  • Slick Ric

LOL….and the pacers success has been never. They only had a great season comparable to their expectations/standards. They barely won the division last season with a hobbled bulls team.

  • Youngindy21

They were one game away from the NBA Finals and are the current Central Division Champs. That is doing something

  • Youngindy21

I LOVE IT. I always thought Paul George was too nice and too reserved and this is the kinda swagger I wanna see out of a Superstar. I always thought Kobe Bryant was too arrogant and that Paul George needed to borrow some of Kobe’s arrogance and this is perfect. People wonder why the Pacers are Arrogant and it is because people outside of Indiana have doubted them for a long time. People have written them off for a long time. They have been 3rd in the East for 2 straight years and still some people didn’t want to put them among the NBA’s elite even though they were the 5th best team (record wise) in 2012. They tried humble and everybody ignored them so now they are trying something new.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Fair enough. Like I said it’s my opinion and I’m not a big fan of talking and/or on court boasting. Love their style of play just not the attitude that comes with it that’s all no hate.

  • C.M.G

its COMPLETELY irrelevant that lance is playing better than LeBron james only 5 games into the season…..what exactly has he accomplished??? LOL

  • Derrick Slanger

Throw Stephenson on that list too.

  • Zeus

He used the correct form of “they’re/they are” throughout the whole post…ouch. Must suck to suck.

  • CKLOH

It’s the same thing Garnett’s done his entire career.

  • danpowers

it is the third year in a row now that this pacers team proved to be a threat in the playoffs, that they are gritty and give effort throughout a whole season – dog days included. they might not be as talented as other teams, but they make a 100% out of their potential. imo that is enough to back up the talk. idk why it should be a problem to talk the talk when they are also walking the walk.

i respect humble guys like duncan much more tho. just saying its hard to argue any big mouth pacer these days.

  • danpowers

    indeed

  • Enigmatic

Bulls fans and T-Ray, apparently haha.

  • Above_You

Actually, he didn’t. He had to edit it, which you’d know if you didn’t post 11 hours after the fact ;)

  • Max

    With that beast being Lebron?

  • Biggggg in here

I like this guys attitude, and hes nasty on the court needless to say.

  • LakeShow

His first name is Lance, just so you know.

  • LakeShow

He’s not playing anything close to LeBrons level you idiot.

Pay attention. Don’t waste my time.

  • LakeShow

    I edited it.

  • Wings23

If this team had a ball handler at the point they would be the favorites IMO.

  • C.M.G

((“You called a man that is playing better than your MVP a “girl” and a “crack head.”))…..you said it!!! not me lol!! kill urself…..u just said it two comments above my old one lol….ur a douche.

  • LakeShow

LeBron is the Chicago Bulls MVP? LOL

I’d mock your intelligence, but… I think living with yourself must be hard enough.

    Live strong man.

  • LakeShow

It’s embarrassing to watch a guy that said: “if you really think Chris Paul is better than Derrick Rose you should watch this season.” act like he isn’t the dumbest person alive.

You should be too ashamed to show up here after this abysmal start to the season. Just embarrassing.

  • C.M.G

sooo derrick rose is coming off an acl injury and hasnt played in a year and a half…its not a suprise that cp3 had a better first 7 games than d-rose……did u think u made a point there??? LOL

  • C.M.G

i thought u meant the mvp of the league, i didnt think they gave out mvp awards to the best player on every team…..or according to you i could be wrong though lol

  • LakeShow

“This “crack head” is playing better than your former MVP.”

What does it appear as if that says?
“Current MVP” or “Former MVP.” ??

Let me know if you need MORE help.

  • LakeShow

“its not a suprise that cp3 had a better first 7 games than d-rose”

    “better?”

    Better is quite the understatement.

CP3 is putting up all time legendary #’s, while Rose would be demoted to the bench if it weren’t for his legacy.

Rose has 3.8 apg and over 5 turn overs a game.

    Paul has 12.5 apg and 3.5 TO’s….

The point is. You should not have been saying anything before you have seen Rose play.

I like Rose, but stupid comments like yours makes me have to stand up for to point out who the real best PG is… Chris Paul.

  • C.M.G

its easy to put up legendary #’s 7 games into the season. and yes right now cp3 is the best pg in the game right now. and who exactly would start over rose???? lol

  • C.M.G

lol way to edit your comment after the fact, you do that often…..what douche bag edits his comment, and then tries to berate somebody based on my response to your original comment smh….and i know you’ll deny it……in true douche bag fashion.

  • LakeShow

You want me to compile a list of PG’s that can play better than a 3.8 to 5 TO ratio?

    That’s too easy.

    Stop wasting my time.

  • LakeShow

Try reading with an above 3rd grade skill level the first time maybe.

    I do edit comments.

And I post the fact that I edited it.

Go look on yesterdays thread where I didn’t use the correct usage of “their” they’re” and there.” I did what a man would do and admitted it, edited it, and then posted that I edited it to avoid any confusion.

You know why I did that? Because i’m a man. And I know that I would not deserve respect if I did things like that with a slight of hand.

Of course you would not understand anything I am speaking about here. You probably gave up reading after you saw there was more than 1 paragraph and I used some post elementary level grammar… and then started speaking on being a man… You are definitely lost haha.

Try to bone up on the game of basketball and learn some knowledge. Get back to me when you are worth my time.

Let me guess. My mom should swallow j*zz? Nice…

  • C.M.G

no thats not what i asked…..i said name a pg who should start over rose….it should be obvious that it would have to be a pg on the bulls roster…..with your “superior” english skills im suprised you cant comprehend……and dont say hinrich lol…..he’ll never take the bulls to the promise land…..at least d-rose has the potential to.

  • C.M.G

lol you’ve edited comments on me before, and tried to make it look like it was your original comment…..i see you liked that joke so much that you’ve used it twice now lol….how about you get off your moms couch and put your great english skills to use other than on slam…..

  • LakeShow

haha, what… your defending Roses play thus far???

Your more of a stan than I realized… And I knew you were quite the stan…

  • C.M.G

im not defending his play….but at the same time im not crucifying him based on his first two weeks back in action, after a year hiatus. people take awhile to get back in the flow of the game….especially at that level. cant really close the book d-rose based on 2 weeks.

  • LakeShow

I wouldn’t criticize him either if their wasn’t so many stans around here talking about how he’s the best player in the game.

I love Rose. I hope he averages 25-8+ this season. That’s why people like you are extra frustrating, because you make me talk down on a guy i’m high on.

yeah, yeah, yeah, my mom should have aborted me, got it, cool, thanks, have a good day man.

  • Michael Cholom

george is talking lets how they take if bulls take them out in the playoofs
