Rudy Gay Banned Stats From the Toronto Raptors Locker Room

The numbers don’t like Rudy Gay, and the feeling is mutual. Gay, shooting a career-worst 38.1 percent from the field so far this season, has banned statsheets from appearing in the Raptors’ locker room. Per the Toronto Sun: “Gay sees the scoresheets as an unnecessary barrier to team unity or even a temptation to be more focussed on what is best for the individual as opposed to what is best for the team. ‘We’re not playing for stats,’ Gay said. Gay said there was no incident or no moment that pushed him toward this decision but as a leader on this team, he felt it was just something that was best for the team. ‘I wanted to just nip it in the butt before it became an issue,’ he said. ‘We come in here after losses, after wins and people are staring at those stat sheets, but that’s not what we’re about. We’re a team and the stat that matters is the W.’ When it’s pointed out that isn’t always the case in a league where the gap between the highest paid the lowest paid members on a team can be huge and stats may mean more to some than others, Gay agreed. ‘It isn’t,’ he said, ‘but at the end of the day if we win everybody gets their just due. I’ve seen it. I’ve been a part of it.’ Gay said there were no objections from his teammates when he delivered the news. ‘No, none. It was pretty easy.’”

nice gesture. pretty sure these guys can afford a phone that has internet access which makes it kind of easy to check out a box score

Lol yes! This is at least a step in the right direction for Rudy Gay individually

  • shockexchange

In the Shock Exchange’s opinion, this is the equivalent of a jarhead intercepting the mail before his report card can reach his parents’ house.

  • Enigmatic

As a jarhead, I take exception to that analogy.

  • Saleem Rainman

    thats a great comparison.

  • Bryan

I like the idea but they should keep team stats as those are important. ie. turnovers, assists, shooting percentage

Even as an Airman I take exception to that.

  • Enigmatic

At least Airmen have the reputation of being smart. Us Marines…well, you know. Of course we both know both branches have members that are absolutely brilliant…and members that are complete idiots.

  • whooo!

Are we sure this isn’t an Onion news article?

“Having stat sheets that show I shot 11 for 37, while nobody else got touches is not good for the team” Gay did not necessarily say.

Yea that’s true. I’ve definitely met a lot of dumb Airmen. It’s funny hearing all the stereotypes of the branches. I’ve heard we Airmen are braniacs and pampered, Marines had to put the shapes in the right spot to past their test, Seamen are homos. Never heard any Coastguard ones though.

  • Enigmatic

Yeah. I haven’t heard any Coast Guard ones either, but they’re still relatively new to the DoD family so give it time haha.

But I mean, I’ve met plenty of really smart Marines. My old platoon sergeant, an enlisted Marine, graduated from Cornell. Had a Corporal when I was a PFC that was working towards his masters. My old 1stSgt was working on his doctorates. And there’s plenty others I could mention.

I’m sure they’ll be pretty funny haha. It’s always funny to hear non military people talk about how dumb Marines are. I have no problem stabbing at fellow Service Members because that’s just what we do and we know it’s not true they’re just jokes but to hear a civilian say it is comical.

I believe the expression is “nip it in the bud.” nipping it in the butt is something entirely different…

  • Billy Hoyle

Why don’t you two guys get a room?

  • pik

If i was Rudy Gay i’d wanna hide the stat sheet too…. At least he gave a politically correct reason for doing it.

  • Enigmatic

Really mature. But then, what would I expect, internet and all…

  • davidR

good to see you more active on the site man. sorry to hear about the bulls tho

  • Enigmatic

I’m only on here a lot today because I didn’t have classes and I have a term paper to write, so of course I’m doing anything but haha.
It’s crazy what happened to Derrick Rose. Man, I always felt bad for fans whose team’s best player was dealing with injuries season after season, and now here we are in that same boat smh.

  • davidR

oh i know the feeling regarding having school work due, but delaying it until the last possible minute. it’s crazy how much stuff you get done when the clock is ticking.

it’s tough. rose was a superstar, that bulls team was likeable, and if people didn’t necessarily like rose, it’s not like they disliked him either. sucks to see him rest and work so hard to come back, only to face another serious injury. what does chi do now? are they going to rebuild?

  • Enigmatic

Seems like a nice percentage of the fanbase would like to see them perhaps trade Deng for picks and a few role players, and perhaps try to get some players in this upcoming draft. Either way, Deng is likely done w/ the Bulls after this season, as is Boozer. They should get Mirotic from overseas.

You mad? lol didn’t know a convo between two grown men bothered you so much.

  • MikeC.

Maybe not. After paying their agent, paying Canadian taxes and American taxes, they likely end up taking home a little more than half of their actual contract value. Phones are expensive nowadays!
