Wesley Matthews Upset He’s Not on the NBA All-Star Ballot

Through eleven games, Blazers guard Wes Matthews is shooting a blistering 55.4% from the field, 52.6% from beyond the arc, putting up 16 points and ripping down 5.2 boards a night. He can’t understand why those numbers didn’t earn him a spot on the All-Star ballot. Per CSNNW: “Portland only had three players on the ballot in Damian Lillard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum. When asked about being left off the ballot, (Matthews) responded witth ‘It’s ridiculous.’ What did you think you first got the word? ‘I just laughed. It’s ridiculous,’ Matthews said. ‘You know what, I may never get my dues, but it’s not going to stop me from doing me.’ [...] ‘I’m going to kill everything,’ he said. ‘The Game got this mixed tape out titled Operation Kill Everything. That’s all I’m going to do. Gotta take respect.’”

all-star ballots are dumb forreal – how is Kobe and other injured players there?

  • north

Do you think Yao Ming still gets votes every year? I’m pretty sure he’s a write in retired or not. The whole weekend needs to be reworked.

  • Stepfan Raiford

But your team is 9-2 right now. Continue to play team ball Wes.

  • danpowers

he should chill as he wont make the starting five anyway. instead, he should have some faith that he will make the cut as an all star reserve.

  • spit hot fiyah

he wont make it anyway so it wont matter. but since asik is on there as a front court player, mathews and many others should be upset that they are not

  • tracy

    Wesley who?

  • Caboose

    Let’s see….
All-Stars in the West thus far:
    Chris Paul
    Stephen Curry
    Kevin Durant
    Kevin Love
    Anthony Davis

    James Harden
    Russell Westbrook
    LaMarcus Aldridge
    Ty Lawson
    DeMarcus Cousins
    Blake Griffin
    Eric Bledsoe

    Sorry, Wes.

EDIT: Swap Bledsoe for Dwight. Totally forgot he was in the West.

“The Game got this mixed tape out titled Operation Kill Everything. That’s all I’m going to do. Gotta take respect.”

Finally listened to this yesterday, raw mixtape…..

  • BugEyes

He is talking about being on the ballot, not the actual team. it has like five of the best at each position east and east. I think he should be on there.

  • LLC#12

I agree with you almost entirely, but I’m unsure about Bledsoe.

  • Caboose

5 best at each position in the West so far:
    PG
    Chris Paul
    Stephen Curry
    Russell Westbrook

    James Harden
    Eric Bledsoe
    Monta Ellis
    Kevin Martin
    Klay Thompson

    Andre Iguodala
    Gordon Hayward
    Chandler Parsons
    Nicolas Batum

  • Caboose

TOTALLY forgot Dwight lol. Swap Bled for Howard.

It was disappointing compared to his previous mixtapes but it was solid and actually sold a lot of copies on Itunes as just a mixtape.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you do realize Wes Matthews is putting up 16 ppg on 52%-58%-75% right?

  • Max

He’s really been on fire to start the season.

  • BugEyes

Your list is pretty good but you can make an argument for a couple guys. like martin Hayward and parsons

  • Dfrance

I wasn’t that impressed with it, he’s done way better. California Republic comes to mind.

  • Dfrance

All star balloting is a joke anyway. We are about 10 games in and already voting for All Stars? Plus if I’m not mistaken, those ballots are drawn up before the season even starts so it really doesn’t matter what you did in those 1st 10 games anyway.

If you’re not popular, you shouldn’t even stress about it, just hope you get on as a reserve.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yep, the “committee” has to have their ballots in before preseason even starts so that the ballots can be printed and distributed by the time voting opens

  • i_ball

So the Spurs lead the West and don’t have an All Star, at least TP should be there

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Brake Lights was his best one in recent years. Damn near better than most dudes albums.

  • Datkid

since when is bledsoe a 2 guard?

  • Dfrance

I gotta give that one another listen. I think he dropped like 4 mixtapes around that time and it got lost in the shuffle. I thought California Republic was really good tho, you like that one?

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Yea he dropped Red Room, Brake Lights, Purp&Patron,Hoodmorning and Cali Republic. It was cool it had a lot of Red Album leftovers on them but a majority of it was skippable. I really like the track Skate On though.

  • Tarzan Cooper

how does this clown exclude parker and duncan?

  • Kilo

He should be mad at Portland for not getting him the shot for him to have All-Satr numbers. 16 points on 55% percent shooting, 52% from three, he should proably get more chances than he’s getting.

  • ATL dynamite

Dame Lillard? His D is terrible but so is Ty’s, and the team records are two extremes

  • danpowers

which would certainly lead to lower shooting %. being selective on shots and using a player to his potential plays a big role in his performance. it would be huge for him and the blazers if they were able to keep this style of play during the whole season. in this case he should make the cut as an all star reserve anyway

  • danpowers

assuming win % stay about the same he would be voted over bledsoe or lawson. dont underestimate his efficiency, he is really playing a season worthy of all star consideration so far.

but where do you have the spurs players in this? we were not talking about fantasy basketball ;)

  • danpowers

    1.) spurs players please

2.) about bledsoe and lawson: compare blazers win % with the nuggets and suns win % – this, and mathews’ efficiency really speak in his favor to be at least considered a legit all star reserve

  • Caboose

    Missed Parker, definitely. Duncan? Where?

  • Dfrance

Purp and Patron was like 40 tracks I was burnt out. lol. I’ma check Brake Lights out on the commute home.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Lol yea it was way too many tracks but the Hangover was tight it was like an album but yea def check that mixtape out has a lot of bangers on there.

  • melvo

I love the guy, but Jeremy Lin was almost an All-Star starter last year. He was third behind Kobe and Chris Paul.

  • melvo

I’m voting for Allen Iverson, Yao Ming, and Jeremy Lin.

  • melvo

There’s a good chance that fans will vote for Kobe regardless of how many games he has played, so he’ll probably take Steph’s spot.

  • melvo

They eliminated Center from All Star ballots right? So Anthony Davis probably won’t be forced into that spot. Either way, it’ll probably be Dwight Howard at that spot.

  • thebossman15

hayward has been playing like a top 3 SF so far, i dont know what the hell you have been watching

  • BugEyes

Dude do you watch NBA ? All stars are rewarded by there teams winning when the coaches pick the reserves. and Gordon is good but his team ain’t winning. while wesleys is and he is putting up great numbers.

  • thebossman15

dude, do you read? he listed the 5 best at the position..i wasnt talking about the all star team

  • BugEyes

Do yoi read I didn’t say Matthews was a better player than Gordon, I says he has a better chance to make the all star team and he should be on the ballet instead due to his team wi.ning. me and this guy were talking about top 5 on ballet not overall

  • thebossman15

…He listed the top 5 at the position, you argued hayward shouldnt be a top 5 SF in the west and you could make an argument for him, i said he is a clear cut top 3 SF in the west so far.. your arguing that because utah hasnt been playing well that it represents the way hes been playing(WTF) are you retarded?..where did a hayward/matthews comparison come from lolol

  • Shifty

Look I don’t know if you have played sports to a high level or not but us fans we gripe and blast on All star voting but to these NBA players its a attainable dream. If my sport had a all star weekend and I made the ballot I would be extremely proud of myself and it would be something I would strive for. He is not saying he should be a starting player on the team but that his name should be at least mentioned. Which I agree with him.

  • Dfrance

I agree with him too, my thing is the All Star voting is strictly a popularity contest for the fans, its like that every year. The same guys are on the ballot every year. They print the ballot before the season starts, so while Wes is off to a great year, the all star committee didn’t know that when they made the ballot. Maybe if he keeps it up, he’ll be on it next year.

My point is, while I understand his displeasure, he should know how the ballot works and why he’s not on it. It’s not a slight to his play this season, its just the politics of the voting.

  • LP @ThisisEther

I’ll listen again, i always go overboard on Game’s material…. I like pretty much everything he’s dropped to date…Purp and Patron the most, as far as mixtapes

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

I feel you man I’m a huge Game fan but that OKE was his worst to date IMO. My favorite songs are In The City and Compton oh and Swerve.

  • cramzy

they make the ballots before the season. I had to write in Michael Carter Williams.

  • Shifty

Yeah kinda forgot to factor in the before the league starts. Coaches pick the reserves. they should be the ones who decide who else should be on the ballot apart from the big time stars.
