On an alley-oop attempt against the New York Knicks in the first quarter on Sunday, Anthony Davis slammed his left hand against the rim and fractured a bone.

The New Orleans Pelicans have yet to provide a timetable for Davis’ return to the court, but the young big fella hopes he won’t be out of action for too long.

Per the team’s PR and Times-Picayune:

“I am hoping it is a short-term thing, so I can get back on the floor,” Davis said. “I felt pain. I didn’t think it was going to keep me out. I am happy that my team battled for the whole 48 (minutes) and got that W.”

With Davis gone after just 10 minutes of action, the New Orleans Pelicans held on for a 103-99 road win.

The Pelicans will now have to get used to life without Anthony Davis — coming into last night’s game, the second-year stud was averaging 19.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.9 blocks.
