Chicago Bulls Reportedly Not Looking to Trade Luol Deng

Luol Deng’s name has been in trade rumors all season, and with his free agency looming next summer, it’s been widely assumed that the Chicago Bulls would move him. That’s not the plan, according to ESPN:

Teams are inquiring about Deng’s status with the Bulls, who continue to sink in the standings in the wake of the knee injury that wrecked another season for Derrick Rose.

Deng told the Chicago Sun-Times this week that he’s been preparing for the possibility of being traded, but sources said that’s not in the team’s plans. Despite failing to come to terms on a contract extension before the season, the Bulls remain optimistic they will re-sign Deng next summer.

Having spent his entire 10-year career with Chicago, Deng has consistently said he wants to stay with the Bulls, though the sides were far apart on contract talks before they were tabled.

Deng is in the final year of a contact that will pay him $14 million this season, and the Bulls are facing a luxury-tax bill that could exceed $13 million. Some league executives believe that the Bulls, who’d never incurred a luxury tax until last year, may have an interest in offloading payroll ahead of the trade deadline. For now, though, that will not include Deng.

why? break the bulls. rose isn’t a consisten 1st option. And i could never see him being a second option unless the big diesel 2.0 comes to the Bulls. No player in this draft will complement Rose well. Get rid of Rose

Rose isn’t a top pointguard he’s a top basketball talent. he doesn’t orchestrate offense well. Look at how many great role players bulls provided rose. If lebron was on that team instead of Rose… lebron would have 3 titles

  • pposse

so trade away ‘top basketball talent’ lol okay

  • Mike Gilbert

lol get rid of Rose. How?

  • K Dub

Good move no players worth trading for were available!!!!! Just get rid of him and boozer in summer and gain the cap space so we can have the chance to sign Carmelo!!!

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

He is a top basketball talent, but who knows if he will continue to be.If Rose is unable to sustain his athletic ability then what benefit will he provide to the bulls. Even if he develops a shot, he never was great at elevating his teammates like Lebron.

he’s a dynamic scorer, but if those joints aren’t able to maintain the pressure and strength I don’t see him useful

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

trade the suns for eric bledsoe.

  • pposse

right cause the bulls this year is something like 3-10 post Rose and was 6-3 with him in the lineup. And its not like the squad was back to back 60 game winners in the regular season from 10-11 and 12-13 (12-13 season was shortnened but the same win percentage would have equated to 60 wins if 82 games were played).

Plus he is 25 yrs old lol calm down.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

First off, your sample size is small. Let’s look collectively. What about the other players on that squad? How’s a luol deng impact the team. They have no good guard play like that did in the past.

    Your love blinds you

  • pposse

no, your sample size is small. your judging a player who was last healthy at the age of 22, who is now 25 yrs old, and then completely qualify your statements with ‘IF Rose cannot sustain his athletic ability’ key word IF. be real your being a pessimist it has nothing to do with love and being blind..and everything to do with how the rest of the league views his game. You won’t ever hear any person associated with the NBA say what you say, only ridiculous fans whose views get manipulated by the media.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

But that’s my point. When rose was healthy did he really make the team better.. he may have gotten then 5 more wins but the squad they had was top notch all ready an designed to win 50+ games. How many clutch winners did rose have to pull to bail out the bulls. Tibbdeau had the players on his squad that fit his system well and they won games. Rose wasn’t doing lebron on the cavs.

I am not manipulated by Media. Bro think about it. He needs to redistribute the weight around his knee joints by new strength training methods. However, there is a pyschological impact you are neglecting.

Don’t tell me you don’t love rose.

  • black pinoy

Get rid of rose and boozer then sign melo? Yeah like melos going to sign with the bulls and their remaining roster. Even m3los not that dumb

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

black. you’d be surprised at what players do when Brands like Jordan get behind them.

    what does pinoy mean?

  • pposse

I would be more of a point of contact for the pyschological aspect as i am recovering from an acl tear myself than you, please don’t speak on stuff you not know unless you’ve experienced similar..and trust me if you put in the work you will believe you will come back. D Rose puts in work. And you comparing him to Lebron and only Lebron is proof enough for me..Lebron is what? idk just the best ball player in the world?

The bulls never won 50 games in a season without Rose, they did it twice in 4 yrs with a healthy Rose, they never got to the eastern conference finals either and the Mavs who beat the Heat in 11-12 finals also beat the Heat both times in the regular season while losing to the Bulls twice in the regular season. yes, the Heat were built perfectly to stop the Bulls that year, but dont get it twisted. And Rose is not clutch now? Are you trolling?! look up anywhere on the internet and you will realize the falseness in that claim.

  • pposse

and the bulls record was 14 games better with a healthy rose, not 5!

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

“The bulls never won 50 games in a season without Rose, they did it twice in 4 yrs with a healthy Rose”… The squads that won those 50 games didn’t need rose and still would be 45+ win teams.

” And Rose is not clutch now?” Never said rose isn’t clutch. I said that rose wasn’t winning them games single handly like lebron on the cavs. And his impact on the bulls wasn’t needed for the bulls to be an elite team in the east.

“I would be more of a point of contact for the pyschological aspect as i am recovering from an acl tear myself than you, please don’t speak on stuff you not know unless you’ve experienced similar” You do realize your anecdotal claim doesn’t support anything. How does your suffering and struggle relate to Roses. Rose is a healthy young black male with great genetic make up and advance medical rehabilitation resources at his disposal where as you are a south indian who probably attends physical therapy once a week not designed for sports.

“and trust me if you put in the work you will believe you will come back. ” LOL re-evaluate your attachment to Rose. I’d jump on the Zach Lavine wagon now. I’d love for the bulls to tank and try to pick him up in the draft.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Where is the proof? 14 games does that account for the additional players they brought in as well during those great seasons. Does that account for the improvements made by the surrounding players such as joakim, deng

  • pposse

the proof is in the regular season record. They won 62 games in the regular season and was on pace for 61 games in the next season but the season was cut short. Then the yr they played without Rose they won 45 games exactly. NOT 45+ games, just 45 those are facts that you are disputing.

  • pposse

your claims are alll laughable. Your disection of people via the internet is laughable. Its like me saying you claimed to be like 30 + yrs old at one point on here but come off as a brash 18 yr old keep it about bball youngin. shoulda would coulda is what you are resorting to now you know that right?

Dude, surgery doesn’t change its the same procedures. I could have potentially used the same damn surgeon as him if i wanted to lol, but I elected to go thru the same group of orthopaedics that sponsor the redskins if you must know. And you inferred as much that he wasn’t clutch but try to re-evaluate that claim by putting more words in your mouth that you didn’t put in before but okay. Again why compare him to the best?

You seem to want it both ways…compare Rose to Lebron but then your solution is to trade him for Bledsoe. Have you ever compared Bledsoe to Lebron? That has to be next if your logic follows a straight line. But it doesnt.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

I don’t understand how your comments are applicable.

Surgery can be the same but how the body heals is a completely different arena.

Plz reread what i wrote in regards to the clutch claim. Plus the Bulls success was a multifactorial phenomena not solely roses’ contribution.

Rose has been compared to lebron and unfortunately robbed lebron of an MVP trophy. Secondly I dont make these assertions read rose’s comments on being the best player in the league.

Love does blind. Push the bulls management via email to make an effort to draft Zach Lavine. He’s also an athletic guard and great shot. He’s a mix of westbrook and klay thompson.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

The success is attributed multiple dimensions not solely roses contributions.

  • pposse

he didn’t rob anybody of anything he took what was his, get over it. 62 games aint no joke..and btw you want to say joakim and deng developed as well…in the last two years without Rose check out their fg%…Noah’s numbers are the same pretty much for his career but when D Rose played with him, he was an above 50% shooter…not so much these last 2 seasons. And this year Deng’s pts total went up due to the added workload but he is putting up better numbers on a losing team.

I’d rather have Lu shoot 42% and get 16 pts on a 60 plus win team then his 19pts on 46% on a losing squad any day.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Analyze the situation and health Noah and Deng were in before compared to now.

Would you take Rose over Bledsoe right now? If say the bulls were to trade rose to the suns for bledsoe right now what would you do?

  • pposse

I would wait it out. The story aint over yet. From a business stand point i can maybe understand (cutting costs while still putting out a decent product) but from a competition stand point..NO. He is 25 yrs old and works hard plus at his best the bulls reached the ECF, Bledsoe hasn’t even seen the second rd.

EDIT: and Rose relieves pressure for both Deng and Noah to perform every day, hence making them better! the focal point of defenses is on Rose when he is in the game, not the other guys.

  • pposse

and one more thing “surgery can be the same but how the body heals is a completely different arena” – most people don’t fully recover from ACL injuries across all sports, and especially basketball until 2-3 yrs post surgery those facts can also be backed by statistics look them up if you feel like it…so basically your tellin me that a player who you have seen grow for 4 yrs to the acension to MVP and eastern conference finals is now tradeable. I don’t know what the future holds, Rose can very well be injury prone but it is way way too early to just give up he is 25 yrs old.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

“so basically your tellin me that a player who you have seen grow for 4 yrs to the acension to MVP and eastern conference finals is now tradeable. I don’t know what the future holds, Rose can very well be injury prone but it is way way too early to just give up he is 25 yrs old.” The other players on the bulls aren’t younger. You are confusing the issue. Rose is good player but he’ll never reach the success he had before especially with how the bulls roster is right now. His supporting cast are withering away. If the bulls care about winning now, trade for bledsoe

Yes the connective tissue requires time to regrow and will never reach the same maturity and strenght as before.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

that’s like the Tmac argument. I’d take a healthy prime tmac over kobe any day. Tmac and shaq would have won 5 or 6 straight becasue tmac has personality that woulda matched shaqs. Plus his health deteroiated from over exertion something kobe’s rarely had to do considering the other players carrying the weight.

“relieves pressure” there is a spectrum to that pressure. Do you think without rose the bulls would have been a 50+ win team the season they won 62?

where does your loyalty come from

  • pposse

No i dont think they would be a 50 plus win team without Rose and definately not a 60 win plus team. Not many teams in the league EVER get 60 wins a regular season. To do it essentially in back to back seasons tells you that you have an elite team with elite players and Rose was easily the best player on the squad.

In the past ten years only Miami, Chicago, San Antonio, Dallas and OKC and Cleveland won 60 plus in a regular season. Now tell me what all of those teams have in common?! hmmm maybe the fact that they all have a superstar on their team!

You can go back to like 2002 and Sacramento and Indiana will be on there but dont forget how loaded those teams were too -

  • pposse

you dont need to paraphrase everything i say lol … no K dub is right we can let Deng walk and amnesty boozer and make a run at another top FA or sign Deng at a hometown discount keep Booz and come back with a healthy Rose, both of which are options that will happen way way before your idea to trade Rose. This is just your mere opinion, im not confusing the issue im just explaining to you why i dont agree with your opinion.

Nothing regrows your replace the acl you are born with with an artifical acl a la your patellar tendon graft or hamstring graft. The patellar tendon and hamstring graft both can withstand more pressure than the one you are born with, still it is unnatural but the natural length it takes for the graft from your patellar tendon to kind of sort of ‘morph’ into a ligament is like 9-11 months. I didnt explain that exactly correctly, but again i think your are a bit misinformed on acl surgery and how it works.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

You don’t think they would be 50 wins? Interesting. Even if i buy that argument that rose contributed 14+ wins they’d still be close to 50 win season. Which would make them a solid squad possibly reach the ecf depending on the match ups.

The real question is what is it about rose you love

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

I know the ligament must be replaced and will not regrow but connective tissue from the body must acclimate as well as muscles to the newly introduced ligament. It isn’t as if once the replacement occurs an individual will immeditately regain 100% functioning. That is why recovery is important.

Rose has multimillionaire dollar team supporting his recovery as well as great genetic make up to assist in recovery.

A south indian who isn’t a professional athlete doesn’t have access to the best facilities and noncomparable genetic make up cannot relate to Rose

  • pposse

dont mask your statement as a question. If thats your statement then own it. I won’t respond to ignorance.

You said “rose doesnt make anyone better” – i gave you 50 reasons why that was false. I’ve watched the game for decades and almost always a superstar is in the finals with a team full of good role players which is exactly how the Bulls are built. You further on your own recognizance compare rose to lebron but then suggest bledsoe would be a good replacement. Is Bledsoe a superstar? Just say what you think that he is injury prone and his career in your opinion is over because of it.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

there is a lack of communication. The lbj rose comparison was to show why rose isn’t as great as ppl perceived him to be in the past.

Bledsoe is better than rose right now. If i were the bulls id move on rose’s inflated value

  • pposse

well your not convincing anyone first of all. And its harder to make a good team great than it is to make a bad team good. Look at the Houston Rockets. They have essentially the same team from last year and added DH who is supposedly a superstar and how are they doing this year? 5th place okay. A team like that on paper should be pushing 60 wins. Nothing is saying that will happen tho.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

love blinds the mind. are u a bulls or rose fan pick 1

  • pposse

and you fail to see the failed business strategy in your weak solution. First of all the Bulls with Bledsoe is not going past the 2nd rd at most let alone is not a lock out of the first rd. Secondly and probbably more important the fans won’t show up to the games, people will give up their season ticket plans and the stands will eventually not sell out anymore especially with the way the economy is working. Having Rose play or not mitigates that, people are holding on to their season tix and games are still selling out.

  • pposse

no, when you play on bad teams and do well your mind seems to get clouded, probably the same reason why your saying Tmac is better than Kobe. Don’t be young.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Yeah of course but will rose and bulls get past the 2nd round… HEAT AND PACERS ARE A LOCK for ECF next couple of years

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    what the

  • pposse

see now thats what you call a classic flip. Everything you claim me to be, you are.. most people do that on the internet. Everything you project online about others is really what you are doing. Love blinds you when you speak about tmac. You must ask yourself what you love so much about tmac perhaps you will find your answers.

  • pposse

will they get past the second round with Bledsoe? If not and they won’t, then why trade Rose? Money over everything. Everyone in Chicago has love for rose (for the most part) cause he came from a tough neighborhood to superstardom in his hometown. Its really not that complicated. Reinsdorf nor any other nba gm or owner would never make that move.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

i don’t love tmac im being real. Ask anyone whose better in their prime and its not unanimous kobe

  • pposse

you are in a severe minority with that opinion face facts. I was never a fan of Kobe but he was voted best ball player in the past decade plus had a longer prime and better numbers all around.

Everything your accusing me of you are doing, your harping on maybe two better seasons at most from tmac, its like me harping on d rose 10 years from now…will i do that? we shall see in 10 yrs.

  • Sicko

When was the last time Gar Foreman made a trade anyway? Bulls will just sit back and SUCK this season and hope they can get Parker

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Bro, prime tmac better than kobe. besides lakers fan most will choose tmac

  • 604ricy

Completely agree. Young Tmac all day. Dont try to convince people who are madly in love. Its futile… Rose was good. But realistically speaking he was being overhyped by the league. Reminds me a lot of Penny actually.

  • 604ricy

I believe you havnt witnessed young Tmac in orlando.

  • pposse

i have and kobe the yr he dropped 35 ppg was was better than anything tmac ever did. Any skill tmac had kobe possessed as well and he did it for a longer period of time. Tmac better than kobe is not even debatable.

  • Mike Gilbert

this is hilarious. Rose won an MVP. You think Eric Bledsoe can fill that hole?

  • Mike Gilbert

but we’d suck more if we traded Deng!!!

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

yes read what i wrote. Just because he was good in the past doesnt mean he’ll come back the same
