Ex Phoenix Suns forward Richard Dumas found himself in handcuffs on Thursday — police booked Dumas on suspicion of organized retail theft as part of a statewide roundup of people with outstanding warrants. Per the AZ Republic:
Authorities found 44-year-old Dumas at Dumas and Friends Athletic Association near Indian School and Dysart roads in Litchfield Park and he was taken into custody at 1:45 p.m without incident, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Dumas was arrested on suspicion of eight counts of organized retail theft, totaling just under $800, from the Luke Air Force Base’s exchange.
Operation Grinch Stopper 2 focused on people who held outstanding warrants in connection with various property crimes. The operation ran from Tuesday to Thursday. Authorities from 27 agencies across the state made 151 arrests. This is the second year Operation Grinch Stopper has been put into effect.
[…] Dumas was a rising NBA star as a forward with the Phoenix Suns in the early 1990s before his career came to an early end. After a 1998 cocaine arrest, Dumas tried to revive his basketball career in Croatia as a center but injured his knee. “I just played for fun and was blessed to do it,” Dumas said in May. “People took it more serious than I wanted. Basketball ain’t my problem. Life was. It was off the court that I had my problem. That’s been a lifelong thing.” Dumas was working a floor-wax-stripping job in Phoenix and his hometown of Tulsa. He had recently begun Dumas and Friends Athletic Association, which focuses on sports with youths.
