Kevin Durant Says Ty Lawson Should Be an NBA All-Star

OKC Thunder superstar Kevin Durant and Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson are longtime friends — for instance, they shared a room in their prep school dorm. And now KD is pushing for Lawson to join him in the All-Star game. Per the Oklahoman: “We been through a lot together, man,’ Durant said. ‘Been up through everything together as friends.’ So it’s not surprising that, when given the platform at Tuesday’s shootaround, the Thunder star served as the spokesman for the Nuggets guard’s All-Star campaign. ‘He should be (an All-Star), in my opinion,’ Durant said, later explaining: ‘He’s not one of those sexy names like Russell Westbrook or Stephen Curry. He just started to become one of those guys you depend on as a point guard. He was behind Chauncey (Billups) his first few years, and he’s eased his way into the starting lineup. Now he’s turned into a star. So, give it a few more games and you’ll start hearing Ty Lawson’s name all the time because he’s having a great season.’”

there is so many damn great PG’s in the West. Lawson definitely deserves consideration though,

no Eric Bledsoe or Goran Dragic either. Let’s just hope the Suns fall apart and those two fall out of the conversation.

    oak hill connection

off topic. do u have any ties to U of A? i have maybe one of the funniest pictures ever taken at a sporting event that is wildcat related

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah, i mean a lot of my boys went there

  • spit hot fiyah

from their white out game against unlv

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

haven’t seen it, my favorite picture (UofA related) comes from my boy Mike, who was on the cover of Arizona Republic,

    that is f*cking hilarious.

  • spit hot fiyah

not bad lol. in which city is arizona state U?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

ASU is in Tempe. Which is basically an off-shoot “city” (it is a city) of Phoenix that was built around the college.

  • Devo

Nah there’s already Curry, Cp3, Westbrook and Lillard who should be all star PGs in the West

  • spit hot fiyah

pg or sg doesn’t matter when talking all star rosters

  • Interdico Scriptor

    Ty’s better than Curry

  • Interdico Scriptor

is it me or does Curry takes some terrible shots? Ones that lose games? it happened game 1 SAS this year. A crazy 3 with 30 seconds to go when a solid two was necessary and the shot gets blocked by Leonard? I see it a bit.
    What’s GS’s excuse for how they’re playing now? ?

  • spit hot fiyah

he has a gang of careless turnovers. their only excuses could possibly that igoudala missed a bunch of games an that they have had one of the toughest schedules

  • spit hot fiyah

i have no idea how old you are but do you have any recollection of jumping joey johnson?

  • LakeShow

    LMAO!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah, isn’t that Nick Johnson’s dad* not older brother. lol, my bad.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i’m 26 btw, so i only know about Joey Johnson based on what i was told and a short video about his high school days. he had like a 45″ vertical right? something like that, he jumped some ridiculous height in the high jump without even practicing or something like that?

  • spit hot fiyah

    father i thought

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah father. if it was his brother, then their mother would be a scientific miracle case. lol

  • spit hot fiyah

    dennis johnson’s brother

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    i did not know that!

  • Sin City

Seeing as Curry never played in an All-Star game, I’m glad he’s a strong lock for it. Kobe starting, which is clear that fan voting needs to go out the window, will take a proven guard spot, although the lack of backcourt picks should help. Love and Aldridge are hooping, but they will never start.

Off topic: The lack of backcourt in the East is even worse, as they might end up starting 3 forwards (Bron, George, Melo)

  • brothasdontsurf

At distributing and creating open looks maybe….

  • spit hot fiyah

i asked because i actually saw him play in person a lot when i was like 10-14 years old. he played in my country and was on of the better americans here for a few years. the 45 vert is not an exaggeration. he was gerald green like. he could look into the rim if he wanted too. in game between the legs (all-star game, but still) the elevation on his jumper was unreal. iw onder if nick young is half swedish since his father spent a bunch of years over here

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he might be, i’m not sure. He definitely looks like he may be half Swedish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOOhRxWfMLM

  • LakeShow

    maybe…

  • spit hot fiyah

DOPE! his father said 52! i don’t know. nick johnson get up, his father got UP. 52 is one of those i might have to see it to believe it feats though. i definitely heard the tip the hat in the rim story before, supposedly he did that over here too.

i saw jeff taylor’s dad over here too. jeff taylor Sr. not close to being as good as joey johnson but he spent a gang of time over here. enough to have a kid that grew up here i guess and who is now putting in quit work in charlotte.

since we are talking arizona/scandinavia. maybe little known fact. Miles Simon: born in Stockholm

  • Evan Boland

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

ahh, Miles Simon, i miss that guy. He is the poster child for not staying in college when you can be a top 5 pick.

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah missed out on some money. he probably would have did much in the L anyways. got drafted late by orlando i remember correctly.

micheal dickerson! favorite player on those zona teams. injuries killed his career early

  • spit hot fiyah

    would NOT have did

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Michael Dickerson and Jason Terry (only in college) were my favorite players! Those two feared NOBODY.

  • spit hot fiyah

college terry was nice. ok let’s stop otherwise i might end up naming my top 25 favorite college players of the last 20 years

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

loooool that is definitely what this was about to turn into.

  • davidR

he def does. people fall in love with his offensive game and shooting ability. i mean don’t get me wrong he is playing really great, but he still has a lot of work to do if he truly wants to be an elite pg.

turnover machine throughout the game, well defended shot jacker in the closing moments of the game. it’s pretty frustrating to follow, especially as a dubs fan in the bay

  • davidR

ty is def better at breaking the defense down and creating open looks. dude is just relentless at attacking

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

looool says the Monta Ellis fan

  • davidR

    ;)

hey now, at least monta attacks the rim instead of continuing jacking long contested 2s and 3s. my frustration is more the fact that the team steph has is infinitely better than the teams monta had. the offensive options available to steph.. there’s no way they should be struggling at .500

  • LakeShow

I agree, but you can make a argument that Curry’s dead eye shooting allows no one to help off of him at all, which opens up teammates with an equal amount of effectiveness.

  • The Mauve Avenger

Screw that. I’m from Tucson originally and I loved it. My parents meet Mike Bibby when Zona won the tourney back in the 90s they said he was the biggest piece of sh*t.

  • Saleem Rainman

    LOL

  • Saleem Rainman

peopel dont realize how good he has been this year. much better than in years past. top 5-6 pg so far actually to me

  • Interdico Scriptor

Yr missing the point. Ty, right now, is a better pont for Denver, than Curry, right now is for GS. Lawson is helping people win, not getting a few steps over half and going for a make-or-break crazy 3 and then saluting whoever by pointing up and NOT running back on D. Now, Ty is better.

  • Armando

What if Lawsons teammates had the same conversion rate (45% vs. 54%) on assist opportunities as Curry? …that said, Curry contributes more with secondary (“hockey”) assists than Lawson, while Lawson creates marginally more points from assists than Curry (26.7 vs 26.2) despite playing 3 less minutes per game… So yeah, maybe better… Lawson certainly deserves All-Star consideration, but I’d still take Curry (and Westbrook) over him…

  • Armando

    *Lawson’s
    ** Curry’s

  • Armando

They should though… Paul, Parker, Durant, Love and Aldridge should be the starting 5 with Lillard, Westbrook, Davis, Griffin and Howard as the backups and Curry, Harden as wildcards. East frontcourt isn’t the problem… but is there even one guard deserving to start in an ASG? Wall, Wade, George, James and Hibbert…? Bench is almost impossible. Walker, Afflalo, Melo, Deng, Drummond, Lopez, Horford?
