Knicks and Nets Ticket Prices Dropping as Teams Struggle

The good news is that, in anticipation of the big Knicks/Nets matchup on Thursday night, New York hoops fans are getting a break on the exorbitantly-high ticket prices. The bad news is that both of Gotham’s basketball teams are awful. Per the NY Post: “The ice-cold Knicks — losers of nine straight — are tied with the Bucks for the worst record in the Eastern Conference at 3-13. Across the East River, the Nets sit just ahead of the Knicks in the standings at 5-12 and already own a five-game losing streak. As a result, the price of tickets to Thursday’s game is plummeting, as well as tickets to other Knicks and Nets games. ‘Ticket prices tend to drop towards game time, [but] it definitely has a lot to do with the play on the court,’ Chris Matcovich, vice president of data and communications for TiqIQ, said. According to TiqIQ, the average price on the secondary market, as of Monday afternoon, for Thursday’s game was $247.49, with a ‘get-in’ price of $72. That price is 35 percent lower than the asking price at the beginning of the season, which was $383.22. The price is barely half of what it was for the first meeting between the Knicks and Nets last season, which had an average price of $485.72. The average secondary-market price of Knicks tickets has decreased 13 percent since the beginning of the season, a drop from $320.92 to $278.66. The average price of Nets tickets has decreased 17 percent since the beginning of the season, a drop from $228.51 to $189.27.”

Kinda glad I ditched my Knicks season tickets this year. They put the prices up for the third year and I just couldn’t swing it. Looks like I made the right choice eh? Now if only we had draft picks to make sucking worthwhile…

Tickets are so high that the average fan has been priced out from going to games in NYC.

If they don´t get those picks they should start paying fans to come watch the games.

The Nets are turning their season around, I can’t say that for the Knicks tho

These ticket prices are outrageous. I remember when Nets tickets were sold for $10 on stubhub. Now you can’t even get into New York with $10 bucks.

If the Knicks continue to lose, looks like Masai Ujiri keeps on winning in that trade.
