Kobe Bryant Out 6 Weeks With Knee Injury

MRI results today revealed a fracture in Kobe Bryant’s left knee (the lateral tibial plateau). Bryant is expected to miss six weeks, the Lakers announced on Thursday.

The injury occurred in second half of Tuesday’s 96-92 win over the Grizzlies, just Bryant’s sixth game back after rupturing his Achilles last April.

I know this is horrible news, but…. is this good or bad for the Lakers overall? Since they had quite good chemistry prior to Kobe’s return?

  • BE.water

    Crucial…

  • LakeShow

Alright, Xavier Henry. Let’s see your point guard skills…..

  • BlackBond

    damn, damn, damn, Jamessssssssss

  • Conor

    Wow.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

F*CK! LakeShow, Sergio and robb it’s getting frustrating.

  • LakeShow

It’s very tough to watch. Try to keep your head up though.

  • danpowers

glad i kept meeks in my fantasy league. guess its time to pick up henry again lol

  • xyz

    you’re welcome, slam.

  • pposse

this has got to have Pau Gasol deflated..forget the fans yall Pau might become a complete malcontent with D’Antoni at the helm now.

How in the hell do you fracture a knee?!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    this blows

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

the Lakers now have negative four point guards….

  • pposse

this is exactly what i said when d rose f’d up his other knee and then sat on the couch for 10 hours straight

  • LakeShow

Nick Young as back up? lol

And I thought Jordan Crawford was ridiculous at point guard…

  • Saleem Rainman

    WOW

  • Nathan Shane Long

If the Lakers need a point guard then it’s time to make a phone call to Glibert Arenas or Daniel Gibson

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

LOL, at least Jordan Crawford has some (minimal) experience playing the position.

  • robb

Man, it’s very, very sad. I can’t say it was totally unexpected though, after that achilles tear, his body had to compensate and when serious injuries like that happen, other injuries appear.

  • robb

Probably a stress fracture. IDK I’m no doctor but that’s my guess

  • Sergio

Oh, man… This is ULTRA sad. Just when it looked like he was starting to shake the rust off…

    Tough times ahead for us.

  • LP @ThisisEther

might be time to give Mateen Cleaves a call….or Hollis Price

  • BE.water

This surely happened on that play where he hyper extended it.

  • Anthony

Act II in the play “The Deconstruction of the Mamba”…..The man is 35 and has played professional sports his ENTIRE adult life, and 1-2 years of his quasi-adult child hood.
Let it go my dude…don’t wanna see you go out like Chuck Barkley.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

I’m not really trippin over the Lakers as a team it’s just disheartening as Kobe fan to see him so mortal.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Yea I’m not surprised either my man it just sucks.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Yea man we gotta band together as brethren on this site lol

  • thebossman15

First d-rose and now my dawg Kobe, the heart of the nba has literally been ripped out without those 2 playing

  • Slick Ric

With they way people have been going down, I dont think anyone is going to want that title of being the Lakers PG…..Messed up for Kobe though.

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

Ouch. Just when he was getting his wind back.

  • The Mauve Avenger

I think we’re watching the very end of Kobe’s career. This reminds me of T-Mac’s constant leg issues.

  • KingBenjamin

    Time to sign Shannon Brown.

  • robb

I was thinking, I know Kobe and Nash are veterans, but the Lakers have been suffering too many injuries recently. Not just them but younger guys like Blake, Farmar, Hill, Kaman etc.have been injured Do you think the medical staff and the conditioning staff aren’t doing a good job?

  • playa

This sh#t ain’t fair man….The good thing is, the surgery is not required,i really hope this is not the end of The Great Kobe Bean……Damn it!!!!

  • LakeShow

    Really?

    When? JR. High?

  • LakeShow

I remember him on the Sonic’s circa 2004 or something haha.

  • Ugh

Good plan. Their Hall of Fame shooting guard has gone down, so they should definitely get a second string, out of work point guard or a washed up, undersized score-first point guard with worse knees than Kobe to fill in for him.

  • Ugh

Kaman’s nearly 32 and hasn’t played a full season since his rookie year, Farmar has had an up and down career in terms of injuries, Blake is nearly 34.
I think it’s age, miles and predisposition.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

He ran it a little bit in college. That’s why Brad Stevens (Crawford destroyed Butler from what I’ve heard) tried it out.

  • Nathan Shane Long

Yes Jordan Crawford Played PG at Xavier and was John Wall backup PG in 2010

  • LakeShow

He might have “played point”… but if you can’t get 3 assists per game… You aren’t a point.

And, he played 33mpg in 26 games with Washington in 2010. He wasn’t Wall’s back up. He may have played the position for a total of 50 mins that season…

  • Nathan Shane Long

Look up his college stats or his rookie year stats after he got traded to Washington he was dropping dimes

  • LakeShow

    Xavier:

2.9, and 2.3 apg in his two seasons.

I’m not saying he “can’t” play point. He can. He’s actually doing it quite well, but I still think it’s a stretch to say he played point before this season. Not for more than a few mins.

He’s decent for not being a point guard before now.

  • LakeShow

He ran point for like a game or two in college?

  • Tad

Difference is at least they had a pg back then. Now the whole rotatation is just a mess. Good news is it forces them to be in the lottery.

  • WakkyTobbakky

Not a Kobe fan in the past (Iverson?) I have switched to now rooting for the dude, so yeah, this is heart-breaking.
    Go LAC

  • Nathan Shane Long

Daniel Gibson has always been better than a Steve Blake or a Jordan Farmar and as far as Gilbert Arenas goes he is younger than Kobe and not as broken down as Kobe is now and is fresh and healthy

  • Nathan Shane Long

I guess flying to Germany to get all those medical procedures that would be illegal in the united states aren’t paying off now for the “ALMIGHTY” BLACK MAMBA i know all you mindless brainwashed KOBE DI*KRIDERS ARE GOING TO WET THE BED TONIGHT KNOWING THAT YOUR HERO IS FINISHED OOH KILL’EM

  • LakeShow

    Now you’ve gone too far.

No. Boobie Gibson has never been as good as Steve Blake or Farmar were in their prime. Period. If you want factual proof I can show you.

Arenas is out of the L because he couldn’t get back into game shape and didn’t appear to take bball too seriously. He’s essentially black-balled the same way Iverson was. KB in his first few games back had a better game than Gil did at any time in his last couple years in the L.

  • Nathan Shane Long

first of all what prime did Blake or Farmer even have more so Blake who has had a VAGABOND career and Farmer who was just fortunate to be drafted by the Lakers and win two championship and got ousted out the league after a very bad stint with the Nets while Daniel Gibson has always been a great three point shooter and was a solid contributor until Byron Scott got to Cleveland and killed his career and Kyrie’s arrival buried him

  • LakeShow

How is it bad that Blake was wanted by several teams as opposed to only 1 team ever giving “the Boob” a shot?

Boobie who you say “has always been a great three point shooter and was a solid contributor.” Shoots a career 3 point % of 40%. Blake is a career: 39%. There is a .4 difference in the amount of 3PA they shoot. As far as the “solid contributer part. Usually that is done with assists, rebounds, steals, etc. Blake has more of all of those, and better career numbers with each.

Farmar had his best years statistically away from the Lakers. He shoots 3% less on 3′s but does more of everything else. Or you know, more of a “solid contributor.”

  • robb

yeah ur right, they are not young at all.

  • Nathan Shane Long

Who has ever wanted Steve Blake he has been trade bait his whole career and you can look at the stats all you want but the fact is that Gibson is and has been a better player than Blake and Farmar and by the way why are you even responding to me i thought you was done with me

  • LakeShow

Exactly everyone wants to trade for him because he is a consistent player, and a good locker room guy, who can play meaningful back up minutes at both guard positions and can knock down 3′s at a high rate. Boobie has never scored more than him in a season. They both have career highs of 11ppg.

You are right I forgot I wasn’t going to speak to you, good-bye.

  • grgeblck

    About time to retire.

  • grgeblck

they always say, it’s never the same again.

  • Boonie K.

Never really saw Kobe missing a whole season with injury but maybe he should sit this one out? Not like he hasn’t got the extension already. That could be mean, 30 mill assets in your book siting on the bench but if he come back after six week and maybe torn an acl, its pretty much end his career.

  • Cortez Mack

“No. Boobie Gibson has never been as good as Steve Blake or Farmar were in their prime”

Exactly. Who could possibly think this was true?

  • Saleem Rainman

Maybe lakers fans need something to brighten the mood

  • JibbsIsBallin

Kobe on the whhole thing: Only an idiot would doibt me. ” This guy is a legend.

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I lolled…. I think you can take Mateen off the FA list in 2k13 still??

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Mike James just got waived…. maybe he’ll play this season for a contract next season?
Or See if Jon Sheyer’s detached retina is good to go!!!

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

At this point I would take JON SHEYER….detached retina and all…. :-|

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

In the immortal words of Chris Smoove….
“Get this team a point guard…?!!”

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

This LAL season just stopped being mildly amusing and went into NIGHTMARE at the Forum stylee`…

  • Nathan Shane Long

BREAKING NEWS:THE LAKERS HAVE SIGNED KENDALL F’N MARSHALL LMFAO

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

It might be man or just the bad luck of the draw.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I believe it was more of a lineup they used type of thing

  • Toner83

Good point. Maybe Kobe’s “injury” is actually riggin’ for Wiggins in disguise?

  • Nigel

Nathan Shane Long: you suck. Go spew your hatred on the Yahoo! Sports forums or something. We’re trying to have intelligent basketball discussions here, thank you very much.

  • Isaaq Attack

Who told you to get off dem meds Nathan?

  • Tad

The basketball gods tryna make up for CP3 & Dwight lol

  • Ugh

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Nathan Shane Long.

  • Ugh

I’ve begun to wonder if this guy is just someone whose boyfriend slept with Nathan Shane Long and for revenge comes on here using his name, saying stupid things, hoping to embarrass the guy who really is Nathan Shane Long.
It’s a great tactic. He probably has people coming up to him at courts all over his home city getting in his face about this crap and he’s like “Maaaan, why’d I do that?”

  • Ugh

(Now he’s gone too far, you say? NOW?)

  • Sérgio

What a great video. What a legend. Let’s bring the Logo back to play point for LA!

  • Drig

Well…….that’s not too bad……right? Lakers can hold the fort till he returns!

*Realizes that LA is again ravaged by injuries*
*Realizes Kobe will miss 20 odd games by when LAL might already be out of the playoffs*
    *sobs silently in the corner*

  • Drig

    Are you a troll?

  • Drig

West certainly seems to have bulked up quite a lot since when I last remember seeing him.

Did he say he hadn’t shot the ball in years at the end lol?

Most NBA players right now would kill to have such a stroke!

  • Saleem Rainman

maybe he’s “bulked up” cuz he hasnt shot a basketball in years lol

  • kc

It’s foolish to drastically overpay and try to rebuild around an injured aging superstar. They barely scrapped into the playoffs last year with kobe having a “Renaissance year” (actually just gunning) and chasing their best chance of an immediate future out of town. Lakers fans can keep drinking the cool aide if they want but it’s starting to taste a bit bitter isn’t it???

  • robb

    thanks!!

  • patrick

another nba injury where there wasn’t really in contact,,another “freak” injury apparently

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Kendall did pretty well in D-League. Maybe with playing time he can show some reason why he went lottery

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    As Salamu Alaykum ikwa

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

In their primes, I’d take Tmac over Kobe any day. To build a franchise starting with shaq, tmac. To sell a shoe tmac. To chill with tmac. To play 1 on 1 against with a hope of winning… Kobe.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    Why? Lebron is still playing

  • The Real

I’m positive that secretly inside Nick Young and Xavier Henry happy since they get their minutes and shots. Truth be told Lakers were better off without Kobe. They about to win a few more games in the next 6 weeks.

  • Shooting Guard

looks like an opportunity for someone somewhere

  • Ben Ireland

We could use another player, think he would sign?

  • Ben Ireland

You’re wrong. I feel like I’m constantly saying this to you. But you’re wrong on absolutely everything you’re saying. You’ve just gotta be trolling.

  • Ben Ireland

This will sound strange but you put the idea in my head there… Is it possible for a medical staff to be washed up?
I mean, Vitti’s been the trainer since Magic, he must be getting pretty old, would it actually be a thing that’s possible?

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

wowzers …. Are you serious? Bro i know for a fact chrisitianity is based on falsehood

  • Ben Ireland

Dude, I’m normally pretty polite on here, I don’t wanna go too overboard here, but this is a basketball site, and not one single person gives one single f**k about your religious beliefs on here. I get that they’re important to you, but please f**k off with it here, it’s massively irrelevant and makes you seem even stupider somehow.
