Rockets Baffled by Omer Asik’s Knee Injury

The Rockets are unsure why the disgruntled Omer Asik has been unable to make improvement on his injury. Although an MRI last week showed no damage, Asik’s knee has been swelling every time he increases his activity, according to the Houston Chronicle:

The Rockets were not only still without center Omer Asik—and will not have him for the immediate future at least—they were also still unsure why he has been unable to make improvement from his injury.

Asik has repeatedly been able to make strides and greatly increase workouts, but each time he seems close to being able to return, the swelling in his knee returns. The Rockets sent him for the more detailed MRI last week, but it showed no damage to the knee. They have sent those test results to another expert, hoping to get a better idea of why the problem remains so persistent.

Asik initially went out after a bruised thigh Dec. 2. Swelling developed in his knee soon after, forcing him to miss the next 11 games, an absence made an even greater issue with backup center Greg Smith also out.

“He had some swelling again in his knee,” McHale said. “It seems like he amps it up to a certain level and it swells up again. They’re still trying to figure out what’s causing that swelling when he gets up to a certain level of activity. They MRI, they sent it out again for certain people to look at again. His symptoms are not going the way the doctors think they should be.”

LOL this is really going to help them trade him.

  • spit hot fiyah

exactly my first thought. they already seemed to be asking for too much and they thought there were more takers out there than there really was. if this is a real issue it will just be even harder for them to find value for him

  • brothasdontsurf

Of Funking Course this happens, it must be contagious in Houston around the deadline

  • Vince

Sounds like Houstonitus Trademus to me.

Can imagine the flack a black player would get if he acted the way Omer Asik has?

  • mych3lang3ll0

Exactly. Everything D. Cousins does is scrutinized but atleast he has heart and can actually play. Asik has been getting a total pass during this whole thing

  • doug

Asik has been slammed in Houston but please do not compare him to Demarcus Cousins.thats really not fair to asik since there situations are completely different.

  • doug

A better situation would be dwight howard. Cousins was a bad team mate and bad person. Asik has played when he hasn’t been injured.

Fuckkng vagina. Maybe his dumb ass should show why he deserves to be starting somewhere. And not sitting at home crying and eating Ben n Jerry’s.

  • mych3lang3ll0

I didnt mean that they were similar, all im saying is that if it was someone like dmc they would be getting a whole lot more negative attention about it

  • Max

Ehhh, Royce White situation was worse and he didn’t really get much more flack did he?

  • Elliot

    What a stupid comment

Except Asik hasn’t been “getting away” with it. He’s been criticized by everyone from analysts (JVG, Barkley), to commenters on SLAM for his refusal to play. Not sure where you’re getting this from.

  • doug

Yeah cousins probably would get it a little worse, thats what happens when you disrespect your coach and teammates. Act immature. Physically threaten veterans. Complain about not getting the ball in crunch time and fail when you do. All in your rookie year. DMC is a thug, thats why he gets the treatment he does. Maybe he turned it around who knows, but it isnt just coming his way because he is black.

  • MikeC.

I wouldn’t call DMC a thug. I’d call him immature or unprepared for the real world. It happens to almost everyone, but is magnified to unimaginable proportions due to his profession. He seems to be getting it this year, at least on one end of the floor. As for Asik, my guess is that he’s suffering from a severe case of hurt feelings that will clear up right after a trade is announced.
