Suns Reportedly Willing To Trade 2014 Draft Picks

The ’13-14 season was supposed to be a tank year for the Suns, but after a 13-9 start, Phoenix is very much in the playoff hunt. Suns GM Ryan McDonough told NBA.com on Friday that Phoenix is willing to trade their 2014 draft picks (they could potentially have four) if it means getting a star in return:

The Suns, obviously encouraged by a promising start and with several attractive assets at their disposal, are making it known around the league they are open to trading one or more picks in the loaded 2014 draft if they can get an established star capable of making an impact now, NBA.com has learned.

The move to capitalize on the enviable flexibility of probably having two choices in June and as many as four, along with the potential of about $20 million in cap space in the summer, comes with Phoenix at 12-9 and far exceeding most preseason projections. Adding a proven player in exchange for the uncertainty of the draft, even one as stacked as 2014, could greatly accelerate the rebuilding and firmly establish the Suns as a playoff regular again.

“I think one of the things that’s important for people to realize is that we may not draft four players even if we have four picks,” McDonough told NBA.com. “Our preference would probably be to maybe package a few of them. We’re obviously all looking for stars and we feel like we can put together a package as good, if not better, than any other team in the league if and when a star becomes available. That’s kind of generally what we’ve wanted to do, not only with our draft-pick situation but also with the cap space that we’ve acquired.”

Someone tell the Suns that the Raptors are looking to trade Kyle Lowry for Alex Len and a pick !!!

  • Max

    Maybe Memphis should try something?

I wish the Pistons would jump on this. Greg Monroe, Drummond and Jabari would make a killer frontline!

I just talked to the Suns.. They said. “bahahaha”

Don’t need Lowry. Already got our Parker and Ginobli, just need a Timmy D.

MAn, if they didnt already have 2 point guards in their starting line up, i’d have pushed the raptors to offer them lowry for a pick (picks?)and something minor in return…

If Bledsoe and Dragic are your Parker and Ginobili, you’re fuked

the suns are trying to make the playoffs, if they don’t they will be close to it. that pick will not be jabari

remember that lowry got acquired for a first round pick. his stick has not exactly increased since he arrived in toronto. i don’t know if there are many teams that would even be willing to give up a first rounder for lowry at this point. unless they feel sure that that pick is in the mid 20′s maybe and lowry is guy that will take their team tot he next level (i don’t think that team exists right now)

Ha just being optimistic, give it time.

Phoenix will regret moving their pick when they actually hit a normal part of their schedule. They’ve played Sacramento and Utah 3 times each already.

I wouldn’t go with the Raptors. The suns should trade for Jeff Green. He’d fit that team really well.
