LeBron James Gets Jealous of How Many Shots Kevin Durant Takes

No longer concerned about his shooting numbers, Kevin Durant has been letting it fly this season (though the increased shot attempts have begun to gnaw at him.) LeBron James, on the other hand, is having a hyper-efficient season yet again — connecting on an absurd 59.1% of his shots from the field — but he does feel a bit of envy when he looks at KD’s shot attempt totals. Per ESPN:

“I do get jealous, I’m not gonna lie,” James said. “I get jealous sometimes when I look over at KD and he’s like 16-for-32 and then 14-for-34. … Man.”

I think i had some seasons with only 34 shots..

  • Dfrance

Hey LeBron, you can shoot as much as you’d like. Nobody would care.

  • JJ Jones

Then stop worrying about fg% ans shoot more. There is no reason why a player of lbj’s caliber should only be taking 16 shots. His obsession with his efficency his getting in the way of his all around game and causing him to slip in the mvp race to durant.

  • brothasdontsurf

Not to mention his hairline… :O
    1000 pardons, 1000 pardons but I couldn’t help myself.

  • spit hot fiyah

i’m calling bs. james could shoot 35 times a game and no one would criticize him. he just prioritizes efficiency that all

  • bubblecat

    14 for 34? Shots fired.

  • bike

Man love. It’s a beautiful thing.

  • robb

Didn’t Lebron say a couple of years ago he wasn’t interested in scoring titles? He said “If I really really wanted to I could lead the league in scoring” So now he’s jealous of KD FGA’s?

    WTF’s up with that Lebron?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    lol he’s joking dude

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

LOL i am more interested in why so many people took this seriously….

  • Allan
  • JJ Jones

This only people who actually watch games into instead of box score know what he’s doing

  • Fat Lever

Because it’s LBJ vs KD, duh! There hasn’t been a battle between 2 giants like these since Alien vs. Predator.

  • brothasdontsurf

Reptile Westbrook might get too hungry if he sees that

  • LakeShow

You should try shooting more then LeBron.

  • shockexchange

LeBron wants more shots like Durant and Durant wants more rings like the Kang. The Shock Exchange has a saying for moments like this, “Grass is always greener on the other side.”

  • TTN

I can see some truth in this…everybody who plays basketball falls in love with putting the ball in the hoop even the team player type guys who like to pass, so who doesn’t like to shoot? Even guys that can’t shoot like to shoot.

I like Lebron but it’s stupid to say he is jealous, then shoot the ball then…
On the other hand folks will say he is shooting to much and he can be sensitive to what people say aout him..

  • TTN

I saw the title and thought it was stupid too. So stupid I had to read it.

  • TTN

Every basketball player and coach is obsessed with efficiency, even if they don’t say aloud. Performing what you do well constantly brings about success. Like in lebrons case he has played the same way his entire career now he is a 4x MVP and 2x champion.

  • TTN

My man Shock….exactly what I was thinking.

  • Fat Lever

If it was 14 for 34, then wouldn’t it be shots mis-fired?

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Nick Tha Quick

Beno Udrih vs Shaun Livingston was equally epic,if you ask anyone around here.

  • LakeShow

That’s actually a common saying we all grew up with.

    Co-Sign.

  • JJ Jones

Then why did his % drop from 57 to 49 in the 2013 playoffs. Heres a hint less transition baskets not as many easy baskets. Theres being efficent and then there’s cherry picking like lebron has visibly done this season

  • shockexchange

You grew up with the Shock Exchange?

  • LakeShow

Not exactly what I was trying to convey…

  • Jone

lebron will never shoot 35 times in a game… he is a pass 1st kind of player… he will always do the right play and to take forced shots… durant and the rest of the NBA should be the one envying his proficiency.

  • That Guy

Naaaw really? Thanks for clearing that up, Captain Obvious.

  • TTN

Naw man, I can tell u not a Lebron fan but don’t make up things to justify your dislike the reason for a drop would be he faced stiffer competition from series to series instead of from game to game in the regular season. He still got the same layups and looks he was just forced to think about driving to the basket based off the oppositions personnel like the pacers for example and their front line not so easy to drive on and convert layups and dunks with Hibbert and West down there.

  • TTN

Also I forgot to address the cherry picking notion that’s an out right lie. I have been watching this dude since he came into the league and I have never seen him cherry pick. He may chill on a defensive possession from time to time and thats not often cause he plays D but Any open court dunks he gets are off his teams running fast breaks correctly by playing defense and advancing the ball up the floor.

  • Dagger

Could the drop in Lebron’s efficiency be because the Heat played the Bulls, Pacers and Spurs? Three of the best defensive teams in the league? And because Lebron had to match up against Deng, George, Stephenson and Leonard? Four of the top 10 defensive wing players?

Yeah, that might be why. In that context, 49% is pretty damn good.

  • ATL dynamite

Back in 2007 finals when Lebron shot 36% of his shots against the aged Bruce Bowen and the Spurs system, that’s when he really struggled. 49% against all of the teams and first-tier defenders you mentioned? Man, that improvement is monstrous.

  • JJ Jones

Regardless what superstars efficency drop that MUCH from regular season to playoffs. I guarantee kd or kobe wouldn’t have had as much trouble with these team last year because their style of play is more suited to playoff basketball. Lebron cherry picking shots in the regular season doesn’t translate to the playoffs.

  • JJ Jones

Who said anything about indiana. Boston was the #1 defensive team in 2012 and he crushed them. WHY? He was more aggresive then. Now he just plays passively until his back is against the wall and its hurting his impact on the game(not his fg%)

  • JJ Jones

Are u serious lebron is one of the all time greats but its not hard to notice when he passes up OPEN jumpers at times to give someone else a contested three. He did this for FIVE games in the nba finals. Nobody is making anything up just think that if ray allen happens to miss then tbis would be brought a lot more. Of course everyone loves a winner so the perception changes even when it isn’t reality. Revisionist history at its finest.

  • Dagger

    Lebron’s regular season career FG%: 49.4%
    Lebron’s playoff career FG%: 47.2%

    Kobe’s regular season career FG%: 45.4%
    Kobe’s playoff career FG%: 44.8%

    Durant’s regular season career FG%: 47.6%
    Durant’s playoff career FG%: 46.3%

Everybody’s FG% drops. Lebron’s playoff FG% is still higher than Durant’s, and much higher than Kobe’s. The reason: Lebron is actually a really, really good shooter. And he’s got a very effective post game. Those things are as good in the playoffs as they are in the regular season.

  • TTN

I said something about Indiana that’s why I said for example. It’s perfectly logical for a player to have better numbers and better percentages against teams who are not as good as playoff teams.

If u want to use Boston for example, outside of KG Boston has had no inside presence on the defensive end since Perkins was traded. KG has to defend Bosh who is a capable mid range to 3 point shooter, this draws KG away from the basket and here comes the spacing needed for Lebron to operate as close to basket as he wants and keep his percentages up. No matter how good he is he has to work with what the defense gives him. Teams like the bulls, pacers and thunder and spurs will change lebrons looks because they are much bigger down low.

  • Jer dawg

I’d love to take 30 shots a game but only if it’s helpful for our team or if I’ve got a hot hand. Other than that I’d rather concentrate that energy being all around player. Lebron has enough credibility to say, ” I feel it tonight. Let me shoot 25-30 shots tonight for fun.” I’m sure a few games of green light wouldn’t hurt. But it feels like shooting 15 footers and beyond are REAL shots. Not just dunks and layups. He can score from 5 feet and in. The challenge is hitting those long field goals.

  • TTN

I don’t know what u are talking about on this it makes entirely no sense what so ever. Like I said it’s clear u don’t like him, and that’s kool. Not everybody has to like certain types of players but u clearly making up stuff. So u are saying Lebron passes the ball to others late in the shot clock on purpose? Let me guess so his percentages won’t be affected if he takes the shot and misses? That’s just like a hater to say if ray hadn’t made the shot then….. Ok so if certain players didn’t play with certain players and coaches then they wouldn’t be who they are either. A lot of what ifs man

  • LakeShow

You’re really that guy, aren’t you that guy.

  • JJ Jones

2013 regular season 56.5% 2013 finals 45%. An ELEVEN point drop off. Evver wonder how some players can shoot better than their averages for one given series but lebron CANT?

  • JJ Jones

Do actually watch games or just listen to espns propaganda of him? No condescending intent just a question

  • JJ Jones

No ones hating even espn is starting to question if he’s taking his efficency goals too far.

  • JJ Jones

Bosh was out for 5 games in that series..

  • Dagger

You might want to look up Kobe’s FG% in his worst Finals. Or even Jordan’s, for that matter. It’s not unusual for FG% to take a dive in the Finals. Franchise players are usually forced to play an exceptional defensive team that has seven games to prepare for them.

  • TTN

Not only do I watch games I play the game, to not as a professional but on the college level so I’m not just a fan who watches and listens, I have been around the game for over 3 quarters of my life. Point is I’m a student of the game and Im still learning just not from you. Everything u have stated thus far is baseless and makes little to no sense.

  • TTN

U just asked do I just listen to ESPN but now look who is using ESPN to try to make a point. U are hating, and u need to put a shirt on. On top of that u lying now, first take and numbers never lie was on this mourning at my job and they never said he was taking his effieceny goals to far who said it specifically? You’re lying to make your baseless point. Lebron got faults in his game just like every player but stop making up sh/t to make your point.

  • 2chainz

LeBron shouldn’t be jealous of Durant, but of RWestbrook, who over the past 2 seasons took 71 more shots than Durant.

  • shockexchange

Yeah, and Westbrook also has a “coupe the color of mayonnaise”

  • JJ Jones

My point is that even a biased network like espn is starting to figure out look up espn 5 on 5 is lebron coastin to see what I’m talking about. Not trying to come across as hating calling it like I see it

  • JJ Jones

Btw all the teams u mentioned that lebron faced in the 2013 playoffs, u should really look upwhat he shot against them in the regular season and then the massive drop off in the playoffs.

  • TTN

No you not I can hear the hate, still I ask who and what program on ESPN said what your saying on? Nobody ESPN stays on all day in my office and the shows I mentioned air twice. They discussed this subject and I didn’t hear it. If I didn’t hear it your making it up and your making it up for a reason…..Hate. Be honest.

  • TTN

U need to look that u buddy, u the one trying to make a point and the heat been playing the pacers, bulls for a few post seasons now. U the last person that u should be telling a person to look up something when u make up your own stats.

  • JJ Jones

This just an excuse first of all their fg% never dropped by 11%. Also in the finals LeBron was given WIDE open mid range jumpsuits. Jordan and Kobe were never guarded that way or they would drop 40+. This is just common sense.

  • JJ Jones

Look up 5 on 5 Epsn.com. Also I just love how u make than excuse as to why lebron dominated Boston when Chris Bosch missed most of the series uv still haven’t addressed that.

  • TTN

5 on 5 huh? u talking nonsense and u need to pay attention cause I said already in a previous post that Boston had no interior defense to shy Lebron away from basket besides KG. which is why he had his way with them in points and on the boards, does that make sense? They didn’t need Bosh to draw a big men away from the basket to create space cause there has been no true big man in Boston since Perkins (like Hibbert, Noah, duncan) that could make Lebron pull up for more jumpers.

I think u should go pick up ball and start playing the game for yourself. That’s the problem with a lot of u dudes on here. U watch games, watch ESPN and u don’t have a true understanding of why things happen and why. This is another big reason why it’s hard for u to understand a dip in percentages, better competition= dipped percentages, in the case the best comp for Lebron is bigger physical teams who can keep him out of the post and make him shoot.

  • TTN

I addressed this days ago before u posted this I explained why he performed the way he did, so did a guy on here by the name of Dagger.

U don’t read or pay attention, I only go back and forth with you because I’m at work and it entertains me during my shift. I truly don’t expect a hating ass somebody like yourself to see my position, u have to make it out as a negative for Lebron that’s it.
