LeBron James Inspired By Kevin Durant’s Performances

There’s no jealousy between the NBA’s two best players (and leading MVP candidates.) If anything, they push each other to perform at the highest level. Per ESPN:

Asked before Saturday’s game against Charlotte if, at this point in his career he’s beyond trying to match big performances he sees from others around the league, James shook his head and grinned.

“Nah, I ain’t beyond that. I ain’t beyond that at all,” James said. “I love when I see K.D. do something like that. It gives me an incentive. I don’t get that many shots around here, but I might be able to do a little something. I might be able to get a couple of dunks.”

One day after watching Kevin Durant erupt for 54 points, LeBron James said, “I love when I see K.D. do something like that. It gives me an incentive.” … “I do a lot of checking and seeing what guys have done overnight,” James said of keeping up with the performances of other players. “After every game, I always go … and see what guys did. I didn’t have to look too far to see what K.D. did last night. As soon as I looked at my phone, a family member of mine said, ‘K.D. had 54, you only had 21. You stink.’ So, there it is.”

“Once a scorer like that gets going, you ain’t going to stop him,” James said. “I saw like the last 20 points he had, and they were all contested jumpers. He was hitting … barely touching the net. When you’re in a zone like that, it doesn’t matter as a defender. There’s nothing you can do about it. It was a big-time, big-time game for him.”

What is he talking about? He took 25 shots last game and only got 34 Durant took 28 shots to score 54.Well see what happens head to head but I think that their roles have reversed the rest of the world just hasn’t realized it yet either due to a sheep herd mentality (espn propaganda) or a fear of change.

or it’s just January and people that have watched basketball for years know not too assume a person has lost a step 3 months into a season.

  • JJ Jones

I never said he’s lost a step in fact I’ve said that this is the most explosive hes looked in a miami uniform. His post game also looks incredible but the fact of the matter is that just by watching them kd has taken his game to another level offensively and even defensively. U aren’t going to see this man air ball open 3s he has almost no holes in his game lebron does.

God I wish these two would hate each other. It would make the NBA so much better.

this is the most explosive you’ve seen LeBron in a Miami uniform? you realize he’s not healthy? i mean, this is the heaviest, least explosive LeBron i’ve ever seen. And most people are convinced he is either more hurt than he’s letting on, or he’s coasting. So idk what it is you are seeing that is making you say he’s at his most explosive.
    .
But the rest of what you said doesn’t make any damn sense. There is no “sheep herd” mentality involved with saying LeBron is a better player than Durant. All data that we have had up until the last month indicates LeBron is better. LeBron’s team has won the last 2 titles. Really, there is no reason to believe Durant is just flat out better at this point. Not a logical one at least. Unless you really do value 14 regular season games over multiple years worth of evidence.

Lebron isnt heavier he lost 10 pounds for this season. Compare him this year to 2011 and you’ll see what I’m talking about (half court quickness, several poster dunks).Yes he was the best in the last few seasons but things change. Kd is beginning to enter his prime and has been the best player this season. Saying otherwise is denial. When you’ve seen the two play this season ask yourself who truly looks like the more impactful player THIS year. Lebron who touted for his defense has been horrible on that end this year probably due to a visible drop in stamina which is the only thing I can see is physically wrong with him

Nah man you don’t get it. There is no reason to think a couple weeks of regular season basketball outweighs all other evidence. Durant has been the best this season, it doesn’t take much to know that, but that really doesn’t indicate anything related to the playoffs other than that Durant has improved

  • JJ Jones

Lebron really didn’t play that well in the playoffs last year Though I dont know why people keep mentioning the post season when lebron. Historically plays better in the regular season. I have a feeling that people are setting themselves up for disappointment if they expect lebron to play that much better in the playoffs. Maybe defensively he’ll turn it on but I doubt his jumper will.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he didn’t play that well? oh, people in the league played better right?
    .
historically, everyone is better in the regular season the majority of the time (statistically). michael jordan/lebron james/kobe bryant/larry bird/magic johnson all occasionally “stepped up their performance” in the playoffs.
    .
the real problem with making a statement like that ……you are still comparing a performance in the playoffs with a regular season performance without considering any context.

  • JJ Jones

Your saying that player normally play worse but everyone expects lebron to play better in the playoffs when historically that hasn’t been the case. I really believe that he’s banged up he was seen icing his shoulder . If he isnt then I dont expect him to get much better if at all just my opinion

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

….who cares what peoples expectations are? wtf does that have to do with who a better basketball player is.

  • JJ Jones

Because its peoples perception that seems to decide the best player these days and not actual play. The fact of the matter is that kd has been better. If lebron was doing what kd has right now people would say he’s the undisputed best in the league but because its not there’s a double standard.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Lol so LeBron hasn’t been the best player in the league the last few years?

  • JJ Jones

No Ive already said that he was far and away the best the last three seasons but that isnt true this year. For some reason people have a hard time accepting it but lebron is close to 30 and has probably peaked already while kd is 25 he’s entering his prime. Kd is scoring FOUR more points than anyone in the league right now and has better defensive numbers for the YEAR thats kind of dominance is hard to ignore.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

It’s still a great regular season. Many a player has had great regular seasons only to be less than someone else who was worse come playoffs. It’s fine that you think the media pushes LeBron too much and Kobe not enough, that’s your opinion. But acting like Durant is better and the only reason other people don’t notice is because they are told not to, is pretty absurd. Just like when Jordan turned 30, Kobe turned 30, Duncan – other players can have the regular season, LeBron may just very well be at that point. Many believe he is.

  • JJ Jones

This I agree with except for espn not influencing peoples opinions but we can agree to disagree on that. So do u think that lebron is injured or do u think that he’s just getting older. I mean u said u think he’s less athletic than before but I haven’t seen that except for his back incident earlier in the season.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I think per usual, they are coasting. More than anything that’s my assumption until it doesn’t happen. I really could be wrong, maybe Durant is at that point, but I’m not ready to take someone off that spot until I have reasonable evidence.

  • JJ Jones

    Fair enough.

  • Busta213

Lebron really does seem to turn up his game up a level or two as we get closer to the All star break- he certainly did the last couple of years. In the meantime, its not like people are oblivious to what KD is doing with Westbrook out again
