NBA Exec Says Sleeved Jerseys Will Go Away if Players Reject Them

The new sleeved jerseys have proven unpopular with fans (and some players), and according to Sal LaRocca, the NBA’s executive vice president of global merchandising, should players strongly push against them, the shirts will vanish. Per Bleacher Report:

“All the (four) teams that are wearing them now involved their players in making that decision,” he said, although players in one-off situations—the 2014 All-Star Game and the five games on Christmas—were not consulted.

“The league is not suggesting they have to fit in a certain way,” he said, “and it’s the same material from the same factory that we’ve used for the last couple of years.”

In any case, LaRocca said plans for next year’s Christmas Day uniforms and the 2015 All-Star Game already are being discussed. If the All-Stars make it clear they don’t like the look or feel of this year’s uniforms, the league will respond accordingly.

“If the feedback is that the players don’t want to wear them, we won’t,” LaRocca said. “We are 50-50 partners with the players in everything we do.”

thank g-d! best move of the year!!! sleeve jerseys.=FAIL!!!

I don’t believe the players have the pull they are suggesting. The powers that be know the dollar speaks louder than opinion, players encouraged to achieve more income via endorsements will soon learn to like them.

That said, the composite ball disappeared eventually, I’m hoping the same will be the case with these shoddy garments. I cannot imagine the likes of MJ in his playing days agreeing to wear these. Can’t imagine ” Is it the sleeve’s” ever catching on as a way of moving more merchandise !!!

It appears that today’s players care less about the history of the game and more about themselves, I guess we will have to see…..

The players reject the shirts, adidas gets offended, and next year they are wearing belly shirts.

i am the only one who thinks the sleeved jerseys are ok. Nothing wrong with some sleeves.

Nobody likes those sleeved jerseys. Not the players, not the fans. Get rid of those immediately.

    See; Department, Marketing.

But it’s not a move. “IF” the players strongly reject them they will go away; i.e. there isn’t a plan to get rid of them. I don’t know what “strongly” means; the pretty unanimous opinion amongst players is that they don’t like them but apparently that’s not strong enough.

    Get rid of adidas
