Rockets GM Daryl Morey Says Omer Asik Is Unlikely To Be Traded

Rockets GM Daryl Morey told season-ticket holders on Friday that he expects disgruntled center Omer Asik, who’s played in only 17 games this season, to stay with the Rockets until his contract expires after the 2014-15 season. Per Clutchfans:

In a Q&A session with Houston season-ticket holders before Friday night’s 88-87 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, general manager Daryl Morey told the audience that Asik will likely remain a Rocket throughout his entire contract.

“We pushed to trade Omer in December,” said Morey. “We felt we had to make a fair and aggressive effort to do that. Obviously, he’d prefer to be a starter.

“At this point, Omer is very likely going to be here until the end of his contract at the end of next season, not this season. The window to trade him was [in December], and teams weren’t aggressive enough to get him, so we’re excited about him being a part of our future.”

Asik is no bum, but Morey seems to think he’s worth the moon despite the fact that his contract is a poison pill.

Alot of people inquired about him, alot of teams wanted him but his contract, and Morey wanted like 2 first round picks, which is insane. Bit that’s why.

Translation. “We are trying to let league know we are contempt with keeping him unless you are willing to offer in exchange exactly what I want”

Lol. Was gonna say the same. My headingS would be…

    DECLINE OF THE WEST!
    MOREY BLOWS ANOTHER ONE
GROSSLY INFLATED CONTRACT ON BUM ASIK EXPIRES
    HOUSTON LUMPED WITH ANOTHER LIN

  • Ugh

Asik is maybe the best second-rate centre in the league, which means he should be a starter, and he produces good numbers with starters minutes in an appropriate role.

Morey-ball overpays these players because they are The Right Fit for The System. And when they got Howard The System changed and Asik is no longer The Right Fit, thus making his contract hard to trade.

    Morey-ball isn’t real flexible.

  • Ugh

    This. Exactly this.

Agreed. He has a good skillset. He’s just overpriced. And dealing with Morey is a nightmare…

please don’t tell me you are gullible enough to believe what Morey just said…….it’s about as honest as his fabricated trade deadline was.
