Damian Lillard Reportedly in the Slam Dunk Contest

It’s going to be an extremely busy All-Star Weekend for Damian Lillard. He has reportedly signed on to take part in the Skills Challenge, Dunk Contest, Rising Stars Challenge and of course, the All-Star Game itself. Per CSNNW:

The NBA has broached Lillard with an attractive, unprecedented opportunity. They’ve asked him to consider the Three-Point Shooting Contest as well, another source said.

So far, the reigning Rookie of the Year is committed to defending his Skills Challenge title; he’s competing in the Dunk Contest, the Rising Stars Challenge and the All-Star game.

No player in the history of the game has ever competed in all five All-Star Weekend events in the same weekend. The NBA will announce those participating (Thursday night.)

Lillard, 23, is strongly leaning towards partaking in the Three-Point Shootout because he is intrigued with the prospect of performing in all five events in which he’ll go down in the record books as the first to ever do so, a source close to the guard says.

There has been chatter over concerns Lillard will tire himself out in New Orleans. Last week Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts said he doesn’t foresee his busy schedule being a problem once he returns to the team post All-Star break.

“He’s young and if he wants to do it, I’m fine with that,” Stotts said last week. “It will be a good experience for him. We want him to have fun. But when he gets back, it’ll be business as usual.”
