Kobe Bryant Unhappy With Lakers Trading Steve Blake

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant did not take the news of Steve Blake’s trade to the Golden State Warriors. Bryant criticized the move on Twitter, but the front-office said it was necessary. Per the LA Daily News:

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak suggested the move had less to do with the financial relief that he described as “not a really big number.” Instead, Kupchak argued he made the deal so it’d give the team a chance to develop younger talent that could possibly have a long-term future.

“As a person and as a player, we loved him,” Kupchak said of Blake. “But our shortage of point guards about a month or so ago led us to Kendall Marshall. With Kendall and Jordan (Farmar) and of course Steve Nash is back there and Steve Blake, it really got to the point where we needed to free up some time in the backcourt to look at Jordan and give Kendall the time that he’s earned and let’s review and evaluate where we are with those two players.”

“I’m sure (Kobe will) tell me the players that he’d like to have, and if it’s in line with what we would like to have, then I think there will be some influence,” Kupchak said. “But if we’re on opposite ends, then there probably won’t be much influence.”

This should put a smile on his face. At the 14:30 minute mark of the following video, the Shock Exchange admits that (i) Horry Jr is a versatile, efficient shooting guard and (ii) is unappreciated for his well-rounded game > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3ZR6G9Vp2I

  • GP

This has already been clarified by several Lakers beat writers who spoke with Kobe post-tweet – the tweet was more meant to convey is sadness about Blake reading, rather than express frustration at management (he’s clearly aware of the tank). I think that warrants mentioning.

Also, Blake said Kobe was one of his favorite teammates. Wonder why ESPN never covers the stories like Ariza/Vujacic/Blake saying good things about Kobe and focuses instead on the Dwights and Smush Parkers.

  • JJ Jones

Because of public perception of him. People see whathey want to see and no one would want to read anything about kobe being gasp a “good” teammate it doesnt dit the narrative

  • http://www.facebook.com/Foxx.PH Foxx ( Danmark Fax )

I agree w/u Kobe Bryant. GW pick up a GEM. Give a lot more minutes on M.Brooks, He have talent!

  • notoner

“I’m sure (Kobe will) tell me the players that he’d like to have, and if it’s in line with what we would like to have, then I think there will be some influence, but if we’re on opposite ends, then there probably won’t be much influence.”

Stating the obvious, Mitch. Jebus Christ, why does this guy still have a job?

  • LakeShow

Exactly how I felt/feel, but there is an end goal they’re trying to achieve here.

  • LakeShow

I’m not going to add to your “Total Views”.

    Nice shameless pitch though.

  • Conor

You look nearly identical to a doctor I used to work for, hahaha

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange gave your boy a compliment. Of all people LakeShow you should watch the video.

  • shockexchange

    Dr. Fiddy?

  • LouisVuittonDon

So the “shockexchange” is a plump 40 year old hobbit..this is hilarious

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange gave somebody 25 in a league game last night. He nearly passed out afterwords but still …

  • JJ Jones

Because of the gasol trade and getting chris paul, nash and, dwight in one year maybe?

  • JJ Jones

Besides he was getting older anyway and was injury prone

  • LakeShow

Exactly. His best days are probably in the past now. But I did love his aggressiveness.

  • LakeShow

If I knew there wouldn’t be some slight of hand, negative undertone then maybe I’d check it out.

You probably say, “just like Robert Horry was” after the “compliment”

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange can’t win with you Lake. He goes in on Horry Jr (rightfully so) and you complain. He gives Horry Jr a compliment and you still complain. S.E. is resigned to the fact that you’re never gonna be his friend. *WOMP*

  • LakeShow

And in this paragraph it is all explained.

“He goes in on Horry Jr (rightfully so) and you complain. He gives Horry Jr a compliment and you still complain.”

You call KB a role player and then say here is was “rightfully so” and then go on to say you compliment him.

No one wants to hear an “I’m sorry BUT” They just want to hear the “I’m sorry” part.

In conjunction with you saying “He” when referring to yourself… Class A Douche material.

You think your up on your high horse, when in reality your horse is high.

Have a good day Sir Farquaad.

  • LakeShow

    Visual example of you:

  • berkamore

“I’m sure (Kobe will) tell me the players
that he’d like to have, and if it’s in line with what we would like to
have, then I think there will be some influence,” Kupchak said. “But if
we’re on opposite ends, then there probably won’t be much influence.”

    In other words, F…him. ROFL.

  • bike

Really have to wonder what’s going on in Kobe’s head right now. He’s smart enough to know what LA is doing in the overall sense but he’s also got to be wondering if he will be spending his last days on a bottom feeding rebuilding project.
Of course, he got a pretty sweet deal. The Kobe Motherf*kin Bryant deal. Will that suffice for him? Stay tuned.

  • LouisVuittonDon

I’ll believe it when i see it, btw do they air NHA(national hobbit association) games?

  • berkamore

Well, he took the money. His contract gives the Lakers little flexibility so he has to live with whatever comes his way. The days of the Lakers paying Kobe very well AND spending like crazy to give him a championship caliber team are over.

The new rules changed all that. You want to win as a star player ? Sacrifice. If you choose the money, well you gotta live with the consequences. Kobe chose the money so…………….

Remember that the Lakers are not owned by some huge corporation or a billionaire a la Prokhorov (Brooklyn Nets) for whom they are a rounding error on financial statements The Buss family can’t afford to spend like crazy and actually wants to make a profit. They are rich but not super rich. (if that makes sense)

  • guest

Man you comment board dudes are a**holes.

  • LakeShow

    Accurate assh0les though.

  • LakeShow

You think it’s possible for the Lakers to not churn a profit? Ever? lol…

  • guest

If you say so dude. Also, a**holes are often accurate. Doesn’t change their a**hole-ness.

  • LakeShow

I’m hoping he plays limited these next two years and then resigns for 2 more for cheap with two other elite players on the team. Crazy sounding but he’s got the determination and the skill-set. If he can just rest his body he can play for a few more years.

  • LakeShow

People hate the truth, but as Churchill said: “The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.”

  • jrandz

The shockexchange is the most ridiculous biggest a**hole on these boards, man. Get with it.

  • guest

You just quoted Churchill to justify calling people you don’t know plump Hobbits on comment boards. Whatever man he’s a grown man and I’m sure he’s fine I’m just sayin the normal rules of how to treat someone just don’t apply. Empathy out the window. Carry on playa.

  • jrandz

This is embarrassing for you. Yikes. Not the right way to end the week…

  • guest

He doesn’t insult you guys personally. He just runs his mouth about basketball.

  • berkamore

Embarrassing? Darden MBA who gives a presentation on Financial Literacy? I don’t know. It may be a lot of things but It’s not “embarrassing”.

  • LakeShow

    Is it not the truth?

He looks like a plump hobbit… That’s truth in my world.

I love lord of the rings and have hairy feet, so it’s kinda a compliment in that way. Right?

You have to realize this guy claims that a top 10 player is equevelent to Robert Horry…

That’s the most insulting thing that has ever occurred in a conversation involving The Ralph Exchange.

  • jrandz

is that a joke? I’ve been reading this forum for so long. He actively calls people out and insults them.

  • berkamore

So YOUR opinion is the truth. Ok, got it.

  • berkamore

As usual, I don’t understand if there is a point but thank you for your reaction.

  • ATL dynamite

he might have disagreements with people (who wouldn’t have arguments with each other on a discussion forum?) at times but he never go overboard. and even if it’s the case it doesn’t justify personal humiliation.

  • ATL dynamite

    stop this nonsense man

  • guest

So what. He’s just talking sh*t don’t take it so personally. And you’re gonna treat people how you’re gonna treat people. I’m just musing at how little empathy people have for other on comment boards or in digital interactions.

BTW Churchill also once responded to a woman who said “sir you’re drunk” with “yes and
you’re ugly…but at least in the morning I’ll be sober.” which was also
an a**hole move, but at least he has the excuse that he was drunk. And he was the Prime Minister during WWII when Britain was left to fend off the Nazis from invasion and had balls of steel…but nobody doubts that he was also an A**hole.

  • guest

He never personally insults them…especially about things they can’t help (like their looks). If you can’t see the difference then you can’t. It doesn’t matter. I’m just saying it’s sh*tty behavior but do what you’re gonna do.

  • berkamore

What are you on? Because it’s the week end, I may want some. Your boy is done. You think he’s gonna come back stronger next year? Goodness, can’t believe what I’m reading…………

  • jrandz

who are you dude? and why are you on his nuts?

  • berkamore

Because they taste good. Want some? You won’t regret it.

  • LakeShow

    Cool story bro.

  • LakeShow

Nope. Only when it is the truth.

  • LakeShow

“As usual I can’t use my brain to think rationally and answer a question that will undoubtedly make me look like I don’t really know what I’m talking about”

    That’s what I just heard.

  • berkamore

Let me rephrase it then: What is your question?

  • LakeShow

Is it in any way possible the Lakers would/could not churn a profit?

They are a top 2 most profitable team for decades.

  • guest

Haha whatever man it is what it is.

  • LakeShow

    Ewww…

  • LakeShow

At the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, it is what it is.

  • berkamore

As far as I know, the Lakers are privately held so their financials are not available to the public.

    Two questions here.

1 Do you have access to their books?

    2. If you don’t, how do you know that they are the most profitable team (in what, the NBA, Sports)?

If you have access to their books, please show them to me because I am really interested in seeing them.

  • LakeShow

Just the usual. Dab-Pen. They’re $25 if you wanna swing by your local head shot for a cheap one.

Where did I say he would be stronger?

    You love straw-man arguments.

  • berkamore

Cool, I’ll look into that thing, whatever it is. Nah, I won’t, who needs to mess up their bodies anyway? it’s just dumb. ROFL. Still, your boy is done.

  • guest

    We agree on that sir.

  • berkamore

Truth is not the right word, I meant FACTS. Opinion, truth, all those things are just beliefs. Which means they are relative. That’s why people go to court, or war, they have different ‘truths”.

  • LakeShow

So it’s not the truth, but rather a belief that we revolve around the sun?

  • berkamore

What? Brings back memories of something you experienced?

  • LakeShow

You don’t need access to their books to know that they have a new 20-year television deal with Time Warner Cable worth an average of $200 million annually. In addition to being a top 2 most valuble franchise.

  • berkamore

What is your point? You just gave me a FACT.

If if you want different “truths”, look at the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians. They have different frames (that’s actually the correct word) about what’s going on out there.

But hey, if you know the TRUTH, go ahead and solve that problem for the World. You won’t have to work another day in your life. ROFL

  • LakeShow

I haven’t had the delicatessen know as mens testicles like you have. Keep the savory taste to yourself.

  • LakeShow

    Was that FACT not TRUTHFUL?

Therefore truth does indeed equal fact.

You do realize there is inherent truths right? lol, they are called facts.

  • LakeShow

What messes up the body? Did you watch the 1933 classic Reefer Madness last night or something?

  • berkamore

A fact is by definition true but a “truth” is not necessarily a fact.

  • berkamore

If you haven’t, why go Ewww? You know what, I don’t believe you. You HAVE. You were not even in the thread but you felt the need to share your knowledge. Why?

It’s all good. ROFL. No problemo, man. it’s not like there anything wrong with it. LOL.

  • berkamore

You lost me man but thanks for………..I don’t know. LOL.

  • berkamore

Goodness, this is embarrassing. The $200 million is revenue. I hope you realize the Lakers also have costs. Besides…..nah, I am not educating you for free. F…that. Watch Shock’s video, it’s a good start.

  • LakeShow

    Okay your right.

Your original claim of the Buss’ struggling for money is correct. LOL

Yeah let me go watch your dad the SE video… Actually naw.

  • LakeShow

It just seems gross to me. Obviously you think they are nice tasting… And that’s fine, I’ll let you keep the flavor to yourself.

  • berkamore

Struggling for money? Goodness, read my post. I never said that.

  • LakeShow

    Yes, it is.

Your mixing up personal truth and inherent truth.

    Inherent truth is fact.

  • LakeShow

“The Buss family can’t afford to spend like crazy and actually wants to make a profit.”

    They can afford to.

    And the profit is easy.

  • berkamore

    LOL.

  • LakeShow

your question: “who needs to mess up their bodies anyway?”

followed by my question of: “What messes up the body?”

    That’s confusing?

  • berkamore

Well, you are obviously operating with way more information than I so…………..okay.

  • LakeShow

    Naw, we both have google.

  • berkamore

okay, whatever. That’s why people go to war anyway because of things they know to be “true”. Whatever…..

  • berkamore

In that case, I hope you are getting paid for your research skills because they sure do trump mine.

  • Happy

But that’s not personally insulting you. I can understand you taking umbrage with it since he’s your favorite player, but taking it personal is kinda…weird. Getting this personal on a comment board indicates a disconnect from the only reality of the situation that matters: Kobe doesn’t know any of you exist. He doesn’t know shockexchange exists. He won’t pat you on the back for being his Knight in shining armor, any more than he’s going to punch Ralph for insulting him. WE aren’t real to him or any other player. The love/hate we all have for these players is one way. Insulting a man’s looks, especially while hiding behind your own anonymity, is not a good look.

  • LakeShow

What got personal between me and Shock?

    I never insulted his looks.

We have always been semi-friendly. I upvote his funny comments. We are not enemies, I just think it’s retarded to down play the achievements of ANY all-time great. He doesn’t call Shaq, Danny Ainge Jr. If he did, I’d take umbrage to that too.

  • shockexchange

Not true. The Shock Exchange has never attacked anyone personally on this board.

  • http://bit.ly/1adGLWn SirGrey

I think me and everyone here expected him to be a ‘Daft Punk-like’ robot too.
    Who cares ?

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange is on record saying the guy is the biggest winner of his era. “Winning” is the reason these guys play, right?

  • Tragic_Johnson

Kinda looks like Lake was on the thread, and you came on to let him know you thought he was wrong. Like I’m doing here, with you.

  • LakeShow

Nope. They play to be the man on the winning team. KB was the man or man B for all 5 chips.

  • davidR

i kinda wonder what riding a horse that is high would be like

  • davidR

if you think shockexchange is the biggest asshole here, then you haven’t been here that long.

  • davidR

i dunno why people are accusing you like that. anyway, keep doin what you do. this board could always use the extra flavor

  • berkamore

Co-sign. A lot of people contribute here and I enjoy reading their comments. Shock, nbk to name a few. Interesting that the people who bitch the most about Shock are among those who, imo, add almost ZERO value to these boards. Go figure…….

  • davidR

the baze god should be an interesting project for you guys. he’s still young and raw, but he def has some good tools to be a pretty decent pg. really curious to see how he does for pringles

  • Too fat to go pro

Ima get a copy, love your work my man

  • LakeShow

    Psychedelic Buck em’ Bronco!

  • davidR

revenue doesnt equal profit. just sayin

  • LakeShow

Agreed. People think I’m hating on shock.. If you’ve ever been in a locker room in your life you’d know that getting whipped by a wet towel is not an insult.

    We’re just messin around lol.

  • LakeShow

That’s probably nbk, or myself. Shane Long if you count trolls.

  • LakeShow

Awesome, good to hear. nbk had this to say: “He’s pure garbage” LOL

  • davidR

a dab pen for $25? pretty damn cheap bruh

  • LakeShow

It turns into profit when it out-weighs your costs though.

  • LakeShow

Mines like $70, but they have em for $25 now. Decent ones too.

  • berkamore

Lake, don’t take it the wrong way but oftentimes, it seems like you are trolling. For example, nbk argues but he mostly wants to make sense and I respect that. You, on the other hand……anyway, if you are just messing around, it’s all good.

  • davidR

hmm, i’m gonna have to start looking around

  • LakeShow

    We all have trollish moments.

I’m here to say my POV, and counter those I disagree with. It’s not my objective to troll. If you disagree with what I say, I’m sure it comes across as trolling, but fact of the matter is, Shock “trolls” more than I do. A lot more. So call him out if your going to call one of us out for “trolling.”

  • LakeShow

God-Send to the green community lol.

  • shockexchange

Yeah, never let the facts get in the way your argument Lake.

  • LakeShow

    ¿Qué pasa?

  • shockexchange

    Cool.

  • Dagger

I find this whole thread very insulting to hobbits. They did save Middle Earth after all.

  • shockexchange

    LOL

  • guest

That is the most egregious part of this whole interaction. I agree.

  • shockexchange

Contrary to popular belief, the Shock Exchange has never saved Middle Earth. He has been voted “Best Newcomer” on SLAM, however.

  • davidR

hahaha! to the casual warrior observer, he hasn’t looked good when he’s played. but it’s cool. he’s really young and raw.

but he has good athleticism, good size and length for a PG, is already pretty good at D, and can get to the rim pretty decently.

the main thing thats lacking is his decision making, but i think that’s mostly cuz he’s young. he plays a little too anxious and excited, kinda reminds me of a street hooper that steps onto the court to play with 4 other random heads where none of them know each other.

but yea, i think he has the right tools to do well in the pringles system. i’m rooting for him. just sad he’s gone from our bench lol

  • Happy

So comparing him to a fat Hobbit was insulting his personality? C’mon.

  • davidR

yea, but i dont think we know their costs and expenses. unless i’m not looking hard enough.

but you’re right that they are one of the most valuable franchises. that alone will keep investors and the money flowing

  • shockexchange

Ha ha. Lake has told ’bout 20 lies on one thread … and counting.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    nailed it

  • shockexchange

Co-sign everything you just said. Everybody is complaining about the streets calling (you know who) “Horry Jr” … except … er … Horry Jr. The one caveat is that Horry Jr does know who the Shock Exchange is; he has an autographed copy of the book.

  • foot locker approved

you don’t look “old” at all. i was guessing you were around 60s and 70′s with all those lola falona lines you were dropping.

  • shockexchange

SE had a crush on her when he was a kid. She and SE are not the same age.

  • LakeShow

    It was “plump” not fat.

It was a funny joke to me. I didn’t think SE would really care.

Shock are you upset with me?

I apologize if we went to far.

  • LakeShow

    Name one.

Oh that’s right you can never back up ANYTHING you claim. Ever.

  • LakeShow

    Dagger with the DAGGER!

  • Too fat to go pro

I like SE. freshens up the place of its usually stink

  • shockexchange

“I never insulted his looks …”, “Horry Jr was the man or man B for all 5 of chips …”

  • shockexchange

Nah, it’s all good. SE will have you know that he after playing pickup BBall this morning, he ran 3 suicides after everyone had left the gym.

  • LakeShow

Really appreciate the actual observations of someone I know has actually watched the Warriors. Thanks man.

The Lakers desperately need defense from the PG position. We’ll take any help we can get.

  • LakeShow

As usual with you my eclectic friend, no idea what the implications of your comments are.

  • shockexchange

You said “name one lie”, you’ve told right? SE named two.

  • LakeShow

I didn’t insult your looks. I said that I agreed with someones assessment that you looked like a hobbit.

    Hobbit’s are very handsome.

    Disprove the other one.

    You can’t.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i don’t even know how Shock would ever qualify as an asshole. and he’s been 10 million times better this year then he was when he first came around. i enjoy his presence a lot.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

not uhh! i said him and brooks were “trash players” big difference probably …. not really, yeah, he sucks. but he was awesome in summer league! and has NBA level skills in some areas! but he’s not a helpful player if winning is the idea, at least not right now or in the immediate future.

  • LakeShow

    yeah yeah yeah

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i’ve seen quite a bit of him. he’s decent at certain things like getting in the lane, he’s shown small flashes of being a good defender but also seems a bit airheaded, still the potential is there.
on the other hand, he can’t shoot a lick and turns the ball over a ton. which has been true since college. in fact, his last season at Old Dominion he had more turnovers than assists, while using 30% of his teams possessions and leading them in minutes.

  • Lloyd

Kobe’s an ass. If that ass gets you a championship, he’s amazing. If you’re struggling (a la Smush and Dwight’s Laker stints), it gets tiresome and incredibly annoying. Doesn’t change the fact that Kobe’s an ass haha.

  • LakeShow

Frames? lol, I think you mean paradigms.

  • berkamore

Frames it is. I could say more but I am not educating you for free. Nice try tough. LOL.

  • berkamore

Agree. Always believed that if somebody you never met ( and will probably never meet) is that important to you, it might be time to reassess your whole life because it is probably passing you by.

  • Jay Brodes

the 1 move that has to be made is dumping dantoni stat..worst coach ever..yeah i said it! #Real Talk!

  • 2chainz

Dont forget about the Shaq/Kobe feud and the back and forth between those guys in the media.

  • LouisVuittonDon

They say i talk wit so much emphasiiiiiis, OuUuU they so sensitiiiiveeee

  • BE.water

    Baze God!

  • The Seed

Blake played hard, but he was only signed because he used to kill the Lakers and guard Kobe tough, he was never the key to winning on the Lakers. He was just a quality backup who has preserved his career up to this point. Now Blake will help GS out where Jack did last year. Blake will come off the bench and shoot the three well, play defense, get a few assists and not turn the ball over. GS was missing this. Also Lakers are set up to get a good draft pick, just need to lose more. Beating Celtics helped no one, but Boston.

  • Happy

    Um…Ok.
