LeBron James Says He Would Win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest

After putting on a jaw-dropping dunk show after the Miami Heat’s practice on Monday, LeBron James stated that he would win the NBA Dunk Contest if he ever entered (which he won’t.) Troll hard, LeBron. Troll hard.

I disagree. None of the dunks in yesterdays video were that amazing. If he is so confident he’d win, it just makes him avoiding the contest even more annoying.

  • KB37

Omg then get in the dang thing and prove it Lebron! I like Lebron but he’s starting to annoy me with his dunk contest trolling.

  • RyanDeahn

He does some type of stunt like this every year. Its like a giant middle finger to all his fans. Personally i’ve seen better stuff on the internet though from team flight brothers and other random street guys but they are still great dunks. In all seriousness he should just stop and let some of the other younger guys get some shine instead of wanting the attention without really going through with the actual contest.

  • Allan

I know he’s joking but it comes off as smug http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_luvhoyK0qy1qhf777o1_500.gif

  • Da-Meat-Hook

This Lebron comment is going to infuriate sensitive people.

  • Simms

I’m a lebron fan to the fullest but he is not a dunk contest dunker, he is a in game dunker like Blake, Dwight and a lot of others fans hollar for to do this. Remember his high school dunk contest? He simply jumped and dunked it, nothing creative. Vince Carter is the last guy that could dunk in game and in a contest and it translated.

  • MindistheMaster

James since the 2011-2012 season started has been very laid back and not concerned with what people say. What’s funny about this is he knows that he’s not a flashy dunker and seemingly couldn’t care less about the people who want to see him in the contest not because it will do anything for his legacy, but because they just want to be entertained by him. Those pure entertainment days are gone for him now. It’s about winning championships now. If he was going to participate, the time to do it would have been when he was in Cleveland.

His best flash dunks are the simple windmill and his between the legs dunk he’s been doing since high school. He did a 360 in a game two seasons ago and it was as plain as 360′s can get. He’s an in-game dunker. Him interrupting Wade and answering was probably more about having fun with Wade than “sticking a middle finger up at his fans” if you know anything about how the Heat interact with each other. His real fans (people who want to see him chase that spot as a top 5-10 all-time guy) want to see him win championships…not dunk contests. He’s a smart dude. Sunday is the real show at All-Star Weekend. He’ll be there.

  • JJ Jones

    Then just do it already

  • bike

He probably would against this year’s cast. But I think a motivated Gerald Green would still beat him. Green’s about the same height as LeBron but he gets off the floor higher.

  • shockexchange

Kang … Kang … don’t do it Kang. You’re an “in game” dunker, not a trick dunker. Focus on the “LeBron Rules” and keep stacking chips.

  • Measy10940

To LeBron, “Dont talk about it, BE about”, if you never going to actually put you REP’ on the line and do the dunk contest then stop acting like a 16 year old girl on prom night and stop teasing everyone…..

  • Zabbah

    Don’t say it, do it.

  • Karen John

★★★ ★★★ ★★★ ★★★★ ★★★ ★★★Vince Carter is the last guy that could dunk in game and in a contest and it translated.

  • Jake

Jason Richardson would like a word with you.

  • Jake

Jason Richardson, Nate Robinson, Fred Jones?

  • i_ball

If the judges are not bias he can’t win against the best dunkers.
btw if he was afraid to lose this year was a perfect moment for him to try it – there is no winner

  • Dfrance

Second best dunk contest participant of all time!

  • Dfrance

Wade should punk him one summer. Say he’s picking LeBron up to go work out, but take him to a gym where PG, Jeremy Evans, Terence Ross, and Gerald Green are waiting with video cameras, ESPN, the whole nine and have them formally challenge him to a dunk off. The viewers decide the winner. He either participates, or embarrases himself on live TV.

I’ma hit Gabby on the chirp and get this rollin.

  • underdog

Only if the winner was picked via fan voting.

  • D

Wilkins , Jordan , Carter ? I see 3 better and I may be forgetting some

  • spit hot fiyah

those in the video were really average, he could off course do better. but people losing their s#!t over those dunks was ridiculous

  • Fat Lever

    Picture me trollin….

  • spit hot fiyah

    that is really high praise

  • Dfrance

Carter is #1. Wilkins and Jordan have that legendary mystique about them, but look at some of the dunk JRich has done on the contest, dude was impressive.

  • Dfrance

Look at his body of work. Off the backboard thru the legs, 360 through the legs. Most of his dunks he didn’t even leave the paint, a bounce and a drop step and he was off.

  • uqk

    Dr J

  • D

I agree JRich was sick but 2nd of all time I don’t know , he’s definetley up in the top 5

  • AlwaysAlways Excellent

if blake is just a good in game dunker why did he sweep the dunk competition?

  • Measy10940

Real talk all I ever hear this dude say is “If I was to ever do the dunk contest I’d win” IF, IF, IF, keep it 100 and stop saying IF and just say why you never enter and be done with it………

  • spit hot fiyah

i know, i’m not necessarily disagreeing. he has some forgotten dunks.

i always felt desmond mason was under appreciated, he had some insane contest dunks

  • Dfrance

Yeah him and Mason used to go at it. 2004 was probably the last time the dunk contest was fun to watch.

  • D

    Mason was nice

  • Czakó Balázs

Make it happen, LBJ! I think there is a secret bonus +1 spot in the Dunk Contest for him always…

  • fruizm

I already asked Gabby to do this, she said she will let me know. No need for you to contact her!!!!

  • hashzz

Lebron is an attention whore….and no he wouldn’t win just based off of his dunks, no creativity

  • spit hot fiyah

i forgot which article, it might even have been lang writing. but slam had something about how pissed mason was in the locker room after loosing a contest to richardson, talking about burning his head band or something like that. it was comedy

  • Conor

  • pposse

ha haa Lebron is scared, he likes the league being pg rated you can tell. IF Lebron ever did the dunk contest you better believe that all the top talents and dunkers in the league will want to join in, him not joining the dunk contest is just a microcosm of what Lebron really is …NOTHING without his homeboys Lebronny Dangerous in the house folks.

  • pinoy808

fred jones is the most overrated dunker in the nba.
VC and jason richardson are my favorite growing up.

  • LakeShow

  • ATL dynamite

The way he responded to that Desmond Mason eastbay… one of my best childhood memories

  • havoc33

Lebron is turning into the biggest attention whore around. First he couldn’t keep his mouth shut when Durant was going off and now he’s of course staging dunk shows (with his misses edited out mind you) in practice and mouthing off that he would win it. It’s no coincidence he’s doing this now that PG, Lillard and Wall are all in the competition.

We get it Lebron, you’re the best at EVERYTHING. You would score just like Durant if you had the opportunity to, you are the DPOY, the MVP, the best dunker… you deserve everything.

  • robb

He’d win like he did in HS: with lame and boring dunks, the thing is even back then he was so popular the judges didn’t have a choice but to give him the trophy because his name was Lebron James.

  • http://signup.divinerenergy.com/ Anthony Dixon

LeBron can only perform one type of dunk..

  • Amzng

LeBron, sponsored by Nike. Just do it.

  • spit hot fiyah

desmonds east bay is waaaaay underrated thought right? two feet, his off hand and leaning and kicking his legs

  • LP @ThisisEther

Some of you guys are in denial if you don’t think Lebron would NOT win because “he’s only an in-game dunker” or “he’s not creative”……you don’t take into account the following:

    1. him SIMPLY jumping is an aerial display by itself…most of the time his takeoff isn’t anywhere close to the paint and he can get his arms and head above the rim AT WILL. Minimum score of 8 on every dunk.

    2. He would not miss a dunk. That’s half the battle right there. Judges will reward him for going 6 for 6 in the dunk contest. THAT ALONE wins last years dunk contest (which was NOT an awful contest, contrary to popular belief…had some sick dunks).

    3. One word: Power. If You see Lebron throw the ball through the hoop in person, you’ll know what i’m talkin about.

    4. He does have tricks. You just haven’t seen them yet. You can’t sit here and assume you’ve seen every dunk he has to offer…..Thats what a dunk contest is for. Bringing new sht to the table. You think he would go out to AllStar weekend and not have a new trick???

In that practice dunk contest video, there’s a reason his teammates are sitting there going crazy re-watching the dunks….because they see him everyday and they’re still amazed at some of it…..either stop hatin or think about it realistically.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com/ Dutch Rich

Dudes would line up to steal the emperors clothes while he’s out there doing long-jumps!

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com/ Dutch Rich

Not even the King could get Kenny to cement a prop wall to bounce the ball off of.

  • Dfrance

He literally had the best players in the game in awe of him after every dunk. Dudes on the sideline now get fake excited after dunks because that’s just the thing to do. Lol.

But when he went off the backboard and through the legs??? That was some video ish right there, best dunk contest dunk ever to me.

  • Dfrance

Definitely underrated. They both should have won that night.

  • Dfrance

Word? I’ma just reach out anyway, make sure she’s clear on the details.

  • spit hot fiyah

dikembe was easily the best sideline overreaction guy

  • Dfrance

Lol. Deke would lose his sh1t when a guy missed a dunk.

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

Is he TRYING to make fans hate him?

  • bob saget

Lebron Jumps atleast 10 inches higher than green lol what are you even talking about

  • bob saget

“We get it Lebron, you’re the best at EVERYTHING. You would score just like Durant if you had the opportunity to, you are the DPOY, the MVP, the best dunker… you deserve everything.” Hands down to you sir you are completely right.

  • bob saget

Yeah it wasn’t amazing but That throw to the wall was precise AF

  • Shooting Guard

it would be good for tv, the ratings, the fans, and everything. Would he win? = HELL NO

  • Nick Holden

  • Zzoott Zzootticus

Not all that impressive 10 years later, frankly. LBJ was doing those in high school at the same time.

  • playa

There should be a soap opera called “LeBron Says” he could voice his opinion on every damn topic imaginable& he would be a guru adviser on most/all of them, just like perfect housewife or something.

  • playa

Its a thing of beauty, sometimes when you’re really really great dunker you make look EVERYTHING impressive, power+smoothness :)

  • playa

Green has better vertical than Bron, it’s a fact, you probably have no idea what you’re talking about man.

  • Mal Ragon

dafuq is he supposed to say? I’d lose? that’s messed up.

  • Dfrance

Thing is, they didn’t ask his azz!

  • shockexchange

This is the Shock Exchange: The Kang would be better served studying “The LeBron Rules … Keys to Stopping LeBron James” than practicing tricks.

  • Omar

LBJ talks about being in the Dunk contest every year and he never does it. Nothing new

  • Simms

If you notice i named carter because he could do both. Which is what people are assuming about lebron, that because he can dunk in games it will translate to the contest. JRich is a rare example of someone who experienced contest success but nothing memorable in game besides his 360 attempt that lebron blocked.

  • Busta213

I just watched a clip of JRich’s best in game dunks….he was a MUCH better contest dunker than in game

  • Busta213

For real. LeBron is obviously trolling here….pretty much did the same thing last year. Its not going to happen…..and we will all be OK, lol.

  • Mohammed Hameed

hahah hes still a beast, and i think hes just too old to enter now. if anything this is his last chance to do it, next year he will be 30.check this out http://bit.ly/1bhBF1H

  • The Seed

Lebron wants to be liked by everyone, so he wants people to want him. On one end, he wants to give off an impression, he does whats he want, did the other perception is, that he wants to be liked by everyone. This is nothing but self hype, but really what player of his stature needs to do this on a regular to show skills. Not to insult him, but there are alot of people in the NBA and walking around that can do that. He did basic dunks, and this making the top 10 on Sportscenter is ridiculous, someone needs to promote real sports, not practice dunks. He caught balls and dunked them at 6 foot 8. AI has never won a dunk contest (robbed with behind backboard dunk), but he would have done these dunks with more flare. This is self promotion as its highest, which is wild, because he is a back to back champion. Stating you would win something and not willing to try to prove yourself against the competition, is straight crazy. He is living off his name, not his dunking skill. He is not an athletic pull out stops flare behind the back dunker, the video he showed, proved that. Period!!!

  • davidR

that off the backboard was in 1 take too!

  • davidR

i remember when vince did his 2nd dunk, ai just got up and ran away from the floor. when someone asked him why he did that, he just said “i had to get out of there cuz i couldnt believe what i was seeing” lol

  • davidR

nah man, it just means you never watched the warriors:

  • Busta213

Are you thinking about Jeff Green?

  • JJ Jones

Is it just me or has he been talking alot about what he can do lately? Dont tell me show me.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    He does this every year.
He decided he wouldn’t do the dunk contest his rookie year after he didn’t make the all star team. That’s how long it’s been since he last actually considered entering.

  • LouisVuittonDon

how do his nuts taste? literally the most retarded posts i have ever seen

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com/ Dutch Rich

    Drunk of his own kool-aid!

  • LP @ThisisEther

Thanks, I wrote it so retards like yourself can easily read the sentences.

  • Dfrance

In like 3 steps, and he took off from the dotted. Unreal.

  • sim888

TV?….The stories of Lebron ‘stepping into the comedy ring’ are obviously true…’coz he’s got to be kidding!

  • Simms

His dunk contest performances greatly overshadow his in game dunks. I don’t know what to tell u if u can’t see that. U might want to watch both the contests and in game highlights for yourself.

  • Tyson Hinton

Nah it shouldn’t be judged by people or LBJ wins by popularity contest.

  • ATL dynamite
  • ATL dynamite

also his power, see how fast the ball went through the rim to the floor.and most importantly his death stare right after the dunk. At that moment I thought oh he capped off the contest. Then JRich did that ridiculous dunk (rmb that’s an impromptu dunk, Arenas suggested it then JRich hit it right off the bat).

  • Ugh

    Yeah, it’s true.

Notice how this happens when KD is finally starting to run at the front of the MVP discussion? And how when the scoring title was neck and neck between Melo and KD he had to butt in and remind everyone he COULD score 40 every night if he wanted to? He has attention deficit disorder – when he’s not getting all the attention he gets jealous and has to butt in and remind everyone how great he is. He’s going to be REALLY annoying when he retires – even more than Shaq.

Having said all that, I have no doubt whatsoever that as an only child from a broken home, he was almost certainly validated by being the centre of attention on the court, and in the media, from early high school. He had nationally televised high school practices!

So, in short, he had the same upbringing as Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus, so he’s turned out pretty well adjusted, considering.

  • Dfrance

    KG caught the Holy Ghost!

I want it all back, the baggy velour suits and huge camcorders included! lol.

  • Matt

Oh wow, Lebron’s annual “I’m too scared to get in the actual competiion, but here’s staged videos of me dunking” b****t. You’re weak, grow some balls and get in the real thing.

  • kemar

lebron best in life haters gone hate
