Rodney Stuckey Admits the Detroit Pistons ‘Not on the Same Page’

Despite owner Tom Gores’ publicly stating that he expects his team to make the Playoffs this season, the Detroit Pistons (19-28) are once again a mess. Soon-to-be free agent guard Rodney Stuckey says the pieces simply don’t fit in Motown:

“It seems like every year there’s new players who you’re trying to get accustomed to,” Stuckey told USA TODAY Sports by phone recently. “It’s just trying to figure each other out and all being on the same page. I really don’t think right now …”

“We’re not on the same page,” he continued. “It’s difficult to try to go out there and try to win games and win games consistently.”

The allure of being an unrestricted free agent for the first time is always added motivation for any athlete, and Stuckey — who signed a three-year, $25 million deal in the summer of 2011 as a restricted free agent — is certainly looking forward to having complete freedom over his next move when July 1 rolls around. But he swears that’s not the explanation for his improved play, instead citing the collective settling of the Pistons’ situation that has helped all involved.

“Detroit is always an option,” he said of free agency. “It’s going to be a tough situation, the first time I’m going to be able to go out and test the market and see what else is there and what not. It’s going to be all new to me. I’m excited for the opportunity, but right now I’m not trying to focus on that. I’m just trying to live in the moment right now and worry about making the playoffs first and foremost.”

we might as well just tank. if dumars doesnt trade monroe of smith then its over. withought tanking 34 wins. tanking probably 28 wins. trading smith or monroe for a good sf (chandler parsons, kawai leonard) we could have about 39 wins and keeping the same crew next year just addin maybe a desent sg than i guarentee about 40-45 wins

Nah, they’re on the same page now. They weren’t on the same page when they were winning. (Denny Green voice) “Pistons … they are who we thought they were!”

josh smith obviously isnt. i remember that game when the pistons lost to the knicks solely because of him. he jacked up a bunch of long twos and threes and i stopped to count his turnovers at 4 when he tried spin move after spin move in traffic at the free throw line just to have the ball strapped away. didnt really look like he gave a sh*t about his team at all.

Told y’all shouldn’t be too high on Smoove, with his selfish style of play he gets on sportscenter when things are going his way, or the whole team’s chemistry died down mysteriously when only Smoove’s touches are off. His hero-ball mentality never changes, but his skillset never improves.

Just attempt 4 more threes Josh & you’ll successfully be the Antoine Walker of this generation.

Dumars did a terrible job putting this team together. They have 5 point guards and 5 power forwards (6 if you count Josh Smith, who is a combo forward) on their roster. All of them are talented players, but they all do the same exact things. Of course it wasn’t going to go well…
