Pau Gasol Still Wants the Ball

And he says that he doesn’t care who’s blocking his path to the hoop: “Each time chiseled 6-foot-11 Dwight Howard knocks him around on the low block on one end of the court, Gasol pledges to use his face-up game to put Superman in foul trouble on the other. He’ll take the opposite approach against spindly 6-10 Rashard Lewis, who lacks the beef to keep Gasol out of the paint defensively. ‘You’ve got to try to be the aggressor and to take initiative,’ Gasol said. ‘Don’t wait for them to use their strength on you. Go ahead and use your own strength against them so you put them in jeopardy.’”

I still say Kobe wakes up in the middle of each nite in a cold sweat thinking Shaq’s gonna save his butt against DHow – dream on mamba-mouth, dream on

    Good news.

If Gasol doesn’t get the ball, the Lakers will have more trouble with the Magic than they have to.

    freedom fries,
I still say Kobe slams on Dwight in this series like he did in his rookie year as he wins his 4th chip.

very Zen approach. And Kobe will teabag Dwight several times this series.

This comin from a guy who was damn near owned by a guy who is 6’7″ only about a series ago?!? Looks like even the pros have “big dreams”

Good luck with that one, Pau. If he does get the rock often, Pau better make sure he scores in the paint against Dwight Howard. Otherwise, he will be given an invitation to Dwight’s BLOCK party. He’s just too soft for a low post player…

Telling the press that you demand the ball doesn’t improve your street cred. Just do what you supposed to do

  • Marty

To all the haters, Pau has always proven what he promises: 18 ppg, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 assists, in these playoffs. Last year, Derek Selfisher and Sasha Vujachucker wouldn’t pass the ball, which is why LA lost.

Plus, LA was trash before Gasol, a perennial 8th seed, after Shaq left. And to those saying that Bynum could do what Gasol has, where is has he been in these playoffs? He’s the future of LA, but it’s Kobe and Gasol’s time, right now. Pau is making his legacy, and his number will be hanging from the rafters.

Anyone who doesn’t see the difference that Gasol has made for this team is an idiot.

Thank you Marty – I have always been disappointed with Pau’s toughness inside, but this postseason he has NOT been soft, as his playoff #s attest to. Ironically, the guy has been getting the ball less and less as the playoffs go on. People thought he would get killed by the Nuggets frontline, but Pau took care of business the few times he touched the ball. Guarantee he gets Dwight in early foul trouble.

  • Josh

Also, thanks Marty. He’s a finesse post player, and a guy who beats you with his quickness, and amazing footwork. Plus he’s loooong… He ain’t gonna push around Dwight, he knows that, and he doesn’t necessarily mean physical strength when he says strength in that quote. His strengths are his quickness, footwork and jumper. He’s not too soft, he plays flippin hard every game. If its Dwight on Pau, it’ll be a great series. Don’t hate on the Pau!

Pau’s gonna be a non-factor when he’s playin against Dwight. Kenyon Martin owned him, so I don’t see how he thinks he’s gonna be able to beat out Dwight. Pau better just prey for Rashard every time down the floor.

@Jack, I don’t think Shard will be able to guard Pau without double teaming him. My guess is the Magic wil asign Howard to guard Gasol
