This Time Around, Phil Jackson Likes His Team’s Chances

Things done changed for the Lakers, sayeth their head coach: “There is an unmistakable confidence emanating from the Lakers’ training facility the past two days as preparations for the NBA Finals have kicked into full power. The Lakers feel great about being tested in the playoffs this time and how they came together for the end of the Western Conference finals, with Phil Jackson raving about how the team showed an ‘ability to adjust to team ball’ to blow by Denver instead of force-feeding Kobe Bryant in desperation. Jackson detailed how he was uneasy about Detroit’s momentum in 2004 and how the Lakers didn’t seem fully to understand Boston’s defense in 2008 entering those NBA Finals. And Jackson said simply about this upcoming matchup with Orlando: ‘I feel very good about this series.’”

The Lakers will not win a championship as long as Sasha Vujacic is on their active roster.

1- i have no rooting interest in this series but i have to admit that the lakers are a joy to watch for any basketball fan when they are clicking. game 6 against denver was one the most efficient offensive game i’ve ever seen by a team. everybody scored and all the baskets were easy (lay ups, dunks, open jumpers). 2- on the other hand, you have to give props to svg for making his team stick with the gameplan for the full 48. nothing is ever done outside of the offense and the schemes utilize the players’ strenghts to a T. they basically only run two plays: high screen for hedo and iso for dwight. everything else that happens is a reaction to what the defense is giving. they exploit matchups and find open shooters. as a coach myself (only assistant at hs level, i’d like to i do have bills to pay!), i can only admire stan’s job at getting his guys to execute. in short, this is going to be a fun matchup.

Lakers will triumph over this final hurdle – the Kobe-shaqless era culminates in a finals win this year. LeBron will take next years and Dwight can have the year after…
    09 is LakeShow time.

    Z: who/where did you coach?
I had the honour of coaching the U16 Port Macquarie Dolphins (mens) about 6/7 years ago. That was some fun times.

“… how the Lakers didn’t seem fully to understand Boston’s defense in 2008….” ==> Shucks, Fphil, I thought that was your job. After all, you are the Zen Master.

The Lakers are probably the better playoff team, but that doesn’t guarantee a victory.
There are so many elements to playoffs. I just finished reading PJ’s book, “The Last Season” and my eyes are open to all the different factors!
There are always surprises. I can’t wait to see how Orlando plays this! I’ve really enjoyed watching them in the playoffs so far! The Lakers are far from “unbeatable”!
